Parker is a-purrin’!

Parker, when he’s not being bullied by his brother, Salem, enjoys being a lap cat. I take the opportunity to brush him. How this tiny cat grows so much fur escapes me. I think I should start collecting it and spin some yarn for a hat.

In case you were having trouble visualizing my concept

Here are some more pics! This is what I mean by “filling in the back with short rows.” The pooling across the back is my favorite part. No, I’m not using a pattern. I’m glad Salem didn’t know I was going to take pictures, otherwise he’d be on my left shoulder again!

ETA: My favorite part is the way it pooled across the back and I’ll end up hiding that if I add a hood. 😬

Salem . . . Again

I’m just trying to get a pic of the t-shirt I’m knitting but Salem is a needy love bug.

I’m just trying to get a pic of the progress I’m making on my t-shirt!

But Salem has other plans

ETA: I’m not using a pattern. I made a hoodie a couple of years ago that I rarely wore because it was so oversized and shapeless that I frogged it to make it into something I knew I’d wear. I’ve been constructing it in a way that I know will affect the pooling effects. I didn’t know how it would pool but I knew it would. It made a really awesome effect across the back panel for the sleeves. I mean, for real, the way it pooled is so cool! I can’t wait to finish this though so I can wash it and get rid of all the distracting crinkles! I can’t wait to find out what mistakes I’ve made and just couldn’t see them. LOL

ETA2: The yarn is something I got at Joann’s (may she rest in peace since she was so brutalized while she was alive) and is 100% cotton. I have another colorway in the same yarn and I really like working with it.

My Favorite Motif

I’m an avid knitter and I’ve been putting a spider motif on a LOT of my knitting for many years. When I complete projects, my friends will ask, “Where’s the spider?”

Salem wanted some lovin’

I knitted a hoodie with my favorite motif on the back. I was going to take a pic of the finished garment and then another after I dyed it. Salem was determined to be in both photos!

Terminology Correctness

I’ve been knitting for approximately 103 years. I know this craft inside and out—sometimes, I’ve been known to dabble in crochet. You know, when I’m feeling dirty. Anyway, I’ve noticed that all these newbies who are taking over my beloved and ancient craft are referring to various areas of a garment as “panels.” This cannot stand! These are pieces. It’s a sleeve, back, right/left front. What kind of psychotic freak would call these panels? Who raised these weirdos? I won’t change what I call the various pieces of a garment because someone who can’t even read and write in cursive demands I change my terminology!

So needy!

I dyed the hoodie I finished yesterday. I wanted new pics of it and Salem, once again, decided that he needed to be featured.

Trying to show off my latest FO

Salem didn’t like seeing an unoccupied shoulder so he had to help me take pics of my latest hoodie.

Preferred shoulder

I was going to take pics of the hoodie I just knitted. I’m going to dye it later. Salem decided that he would help me show it off. He only rests on my husband or my left shoulder. Not right shoulder—that’s offensive! He’ll purr away if he’s resting on our left shoulder but he will not tolerate a right shoulder.

Now to dye it!

I’ve had a giant spool of this fingering weight 50/50 cotton/linen Jaggerspun yarn for six years. I chain plied as I knit and tripled the thickness. I could have made a floor length hoodie if I had just used it as fingering weight. I’m glad I was able to complete the spider before I ran out of yarn! Now I’m going to get a tie dye kit and have some more fun! Salem decided I needed help to show off the finished object. He prefers the left shoulder and refuses vehemently to be put on the right shoulder. I didn’t use a pattern.

Pushing his seat away

I’m not kidding when I say the kitty hammock starts right in front of the window. But Parker likes taking running jumps at it.

Salem & Parker

When the sun gets to the other side of the house, Salem and Parker can sleep on our bed to stay warm.

My next fave

I’ve got a very large spool of 50/50 cotton/linen fingering weight Jaggerspun yarn. My plan is to dye it when I’m done knitting. I almost joined this in the round but I like having an easy layering piece. I did some short rows in the back using stockinette stitch and it’s the only purling I’ve done so far. Those lines down the left front are stupid easy to do and don’t require stitch markers. I’m chain plying the yarn as I go so it’s working up pretty quickly.

Salem & The Sunspot

The room is empty but it’s full of light! Salem found the warm spot. His brother is downstairs enjoying his own warm spot.

Trying it as I go

I’m making a hoodie. I’m using a discontinued yarn in a 50/50 blend of cotton/linen. This will be a short sleeved layer piece. When I’m done knitting, I’m going to dye it. At first I was thinking tie dye but I think I’ll try a gradient. It’s fingering weight but I’m chain plying as I go to make it much thicker.

Pink Shrug

I was gonna make a Wicked-inspired shrug. But I kept working with this pink from Haute Knit Yarn and I didn’t care how nice the green and black was that I was gonna use, this will only use the pink and white. I’ll add a hood when I finish the sleeve I’m working on. This is the first time I’ve designed something this way and now I really want to make a drop shoulder sweater. I like the straight neckline and deliberately put the V-neck in the back to accommodate the hood. (Let’s be real, that hood will more than likely be brioche)

Working back and forth

If I need to work back and forth (changing from working in the round), I do a cable. I hate the gap between stitches that emerges when you switch to knitting back and forth.

u/TheNeonCrow — 2 months ago

I’m using Lang Super Soxx. Don’t ask me what I’m making because I’m SUPER well known for being fickle and having no problem with frogging. For brioche, I like to have a two-stitch selvedge edge. I did a backward slip knot (meaning that to tighten it, you pull the short end and not the working yarn). Into that slip knot, I knit, yarn over, knit, yarn over, knit. There are now five stitches on the needle. Next row: knit 2, yarn over and slip one, knit 2. Now the selvedge stitches are set up and there’s a single brioche stitch in the middle. For that stitch, I increased the same way I did the first time: Knit, yarn over, knit, yarn over, knit into that center brioche stitch. I’m very pleased with the effect!
