I started growing it out but I'm starting to worry it looks unkempt

Especially the sides. My hair is getting hard to control. I want it to go down but it just goes up no matter how much I brush and use a dry conditioner spray.

I used shampoo and conditioner for curly and wavy hair (meant for women because men's hair products genuinely suck) for some time but yesterday I started using these new ones called Being: Goodbye Frizz (pic 3). Hope it'll help. What else should I do to get it to look less unkempt? I still want it to grow longer
