Offering: English ( 🇦🇺 native), Seeking: Japanese (native)

こんにちは、優斗です. Hi, I am Yuto (adopted Japanese name)

I am an English native speaker, 22M from Australia. I have been studying Jp for a few months now, I’m comfortable with the kana but I’m looking for someone to have regular conversations with and possibly a friend!

About me:
- I recently came back from a solo trip to Japan during the World Cup in June/July(yes I’m a football fan haha), we can talk about it! (I also love travelling!)
- I just graduated from university as an Electrical Engineer
- I gym regularly and being doing Taekwondo (Korean Martial arts similar to Karate), I’m also into running.
- I go hiking and camping regularly, so I would describe myself as an outdoors person.
- but I’m introverted and enjoy 1n1 conversations
- I like to listen to kpop (Le Sserafim, etc), jpop and watching kdramas/jdramas.

About you:
- Someone with a strong work ethic, who will be willing to have regular conversations (once a week?) -discord vc?.
- wants to learn English! I’ve been tutoring English literature to high school students preparing for university admissions, so I will definitely be able to help you :)
- friendly, we can talk about everyday life.
- similar age and interests if possible please

よろしくお願いします🙇

What do you think about Norwegian Wood? If you hate it, I understand. If you love it, I understand

I just finished reading the book. I wondering since it’s quite popular in Japan, what you think of it?

Personally I both love and hate this book. Some feelings only Murakami can describe with complete control.

But some scenes I could certainly could do without, and found revolting, I had to put the book down and pick it up a few days later.

If money was not an issue, and you had all the time, but you struggle to form relationships so you’re alone all that time. What do you do?

Travel. But what else, after some time, there’s only so many new cities you can visit.

The craziest coincidence - Norwegian wood

I honestly don’t know what to say, I’m speechless. I recently came back from a solo trip in Tokyo I stayed in Waseda very close to Waseda University.

I didn’t think much of it, I even explored the university, going into the cafeteria, the science classrooms, and walked around the campus. On my return back to Melbourne, I was 4 hours early so I settled in a bookshop waiting for my flight and picked the first book I saw to read it.

As I was reading the book on the flight home, I began to imagine the descriptions of the dorm rooms and I could visualise everything so vividly, it matched the university I visited. There’s one point in the book, Storm Trooper catches a firefly from the hotel nearby, that’s Chinzanso Hotel. Wtf the coincidence is actually wild. I also relate to the character a lot, the feeling of emptiness and I’m also born in the same month. I know this book was written a long time ago, but it’s like almost entirely mirroring my life. I don’t understand what the chances are of this coincidence, the first hotel, then exploring the university, and then picking this book of all books, and then living a similar life to the character.

Someone please tell me what all this means, I’m shook.

Solo travel. Spontaneity. Loneliness.

These are my pictures from solo travelling in Tokyo. I would like to read some books that have a similar feeling to being alone in a foreign country, even better if it is set in Japan! Like wandering through the streets, something nostalgic.

Kang Ha-Ri plays her role so well. Ep7 from The Apartment Job hit way too close to home.

I think this episode made me re-think and reminisce the people I’m grateful for. There are a lot of people who helped me to become the person I’m today. There was a point I saw myself as a failure, and even when I didn’t believe in myself there were a few who did. I relate a lot to this character and struggle of living someone else dream while trying to find yours. I’m glad, I see myself in her.

After being overseas for 2 months I miss Melbourne so much

Maybe I actually don’t miss how cold it is rn, I left summer behind 😭 (visited SG, Japan and Sri Lanka)

But I’m so grateful for calling Melbourne my home.

Miss the water, miss my friends, miss my bed.

I solo travelled for the first time and now I can’t stand other people, help

I (22m) just got back from Japan, i meticulously planned everyday and did so much more than I expected. I would be out from dawn and be home around 10pm so full days. It was exciting living alone for the first time, since I still live at home with my parents. Now I’m travelling in Sri Lanka with my family and some extended family. But I have a problem, after being able to make decisions for myself and the amount of freedom I have compared to now I feel so caged, for example I have to wait hours for others in family and friends to get ready to go out, we barely do anything and they are tired immediately. When I was in Japan, I would walk about 20-30 km a day, I was always out exploring and I would go on hikes too, so it’s really bothering me not being able to do much here and going at a tremendously slower pace. Ofc Sri Lanka is nothing like Japan, I know some Japanese enough to be conversational to ask for help, but I don’t know Tamil or Sinhala, so I’m reliant on my family. This may come off as selfish or I may need to be more accomodating, but the stark difference is bothering me so much. In Japan I would go out to Konbini in the middle of the night, I can’t do that here and my cousin is also bothering me, I’m an introvert and this guy is extremely extroverted and cannot stand any silence so he is always talking and talking about something and everything, providing explanations for things I didn’t even ask about and have no interest in, and what makes it worse is anytime I try to go out by myself I’m forced to go out with him too.

How to spend one day in Singapore?

Hi, i'll be having a layover for 19.5h in Singapore, I've visited a few times before so I would like to skip the main tourist attractions and looking for random other side quests I could go on. I'm travelling by myself, so hopefully something I could do. Last time I came to Singapore, i hired a bike rode around for hours, and found this mamak place: Mr K Prata, BLK 803 King George's Ave, #01-206, Singapore 200803, that was crazy good, it perhaps may or may not have influenced my decision to have a long layover, I want to go back for their breakfast. Haha other than that, yeah even back in Australia I spend most of time alone, so i go to movies, riding bikes in random suburbs and I like to workout so I practice calisthenics in parks. If there is anything you can think of that I would enjoy please let me know!
