How to actually function and get stuff done as a night owl?

I’ve been a night owl my entire life and until you’re done with school this type of schedule is extremely rewarding. You come home after school and activities, grind your work until it’s very late, repeat. I believe it’s what has made me successful up until now (and I did grad school so I also worked that way until I no longer had classes).
Now I am 27 and I’m like wtf???? Each day I have some meetings or appointments and it’s not too much technically, but they can fall anywhere between 9:30am to 5:30pm. Then, sometimes my friends make plans after work and I can’t say no to all of them or I’ll be a hermit.
But the thing is I actually do have flexibility to work anytime I want to between those timeframes but I’m not sure how to build my day when the interruptions from work can be 9-5 and from external to work obligations from 5 onwards. I’m honestly not sure how people typically weave in and out of work with constant interruptions.

The key for me is that I don’t \*have\* to stop working at 5. Nobody said stop working at 5, and nobody is watching me and making sure I’m working at 9 either, so I’m not tied down in the same way corporate work is. But I’m still extremely frustrated.

My dream schedule would be:
\- wake up sometime between 9-11
\- light work for a few hours
\- in the afternoon, take a few hours break to work out, meditate, shower, eat lunch, take a nap
\- leave around 3pm, bringing dinner with me, and go somewhere I can actually hole myself up and grind until around midnight
\- then come home and watch a show, get ready for bed, repeat.

It’s actually a lot of work hours when you think about it. I just really miss having the luxury to get lost in my work.

But the obligation to show up and be at meetings, and cut in and out of work constantly while also maintaining life is just confusing me to hell and I don’t like it. I also have ADHD and have thrived thus far due to hyper focus.

So what do I even do at this point???

I had tried to compromise by having an 8pm cutoff to my work and saying I have to fit in my morning routine, getting to work, one workout, lunch, any meetings, appointments, or social plans, and to work any time those things aren’t happening. If any of the plans or meetings end before 8pm I have to get back to work and after 8pm I cannot work anymore, full stop. But idk how I feel about this. It’s still such a repeated start and stop to my work. It still doesn’t allow me to tap into my natural grind.

Does anyone have suggestions when they are a night owl, have freedom and flexibility to work but also have obligations that fit the common 9-5?

Victoria’s talent

I’m doing a rewatch of MTT and watched season 13 and am part way through season 14. In season 14, Victoria really comes across as the best dancer and most talented out of the rookies. I know her portrayal on America’s Sweethearts was a bit nuanced and she was in some ways portrayed negatively especially when it came to legacies and how they told her she was at risk for a following season and isn’t in consideration for a leadership position, but it’s kinda sad to me that we don’t see the version of her from MTT where you really just see her sheer talent, charisma, and showmanship. In season 14 she outdances every rookie by a mile in my opinion.

It’s just off to me that in America’s Sweethearts some people get this perfect, amazing edit, but then a dancer like Victoria who is extremely talented and an amazing performer, you miss that aspect of her because of the controversy and taking a year off for her mental health (which honestly affects a lot of cheerleaders and affected a lot of people circa 2020-2021, and she’s even said the COVID pandemic is what exacerbated her mental health struggles)

On top of it they kept replaying her getting cut at her first try at age 18 WAY more than anyone else (even though when she got cut it wasn’t much about her dancing). It felt like she was excessively torn apart.

I think the reason it bothers me the most is that it sort of conflates her story with Dayton’s, who struggled with being a legacy and not making the team. But Victoria, although she also struggled being a legacy, did in fact make the team, was on the team for several years, and has immense talent that was definitely undersold on America’s Sweethearts. I think if America’s Sweethearts started in 2019 she would have been a fan favorite.

Penn student insurance

Has anyone else had the issue where even if they enroll the insurance doesn’t work for a while during the month of August?

I re-enrolled for the new school year and had an appointment scheduled and was denied medical care for a recurring appointment because the insurance wouldn’t go through. For me it’s a type of appointment I need to go to regularly for adequate care so postponing it for so long affects my recovery.

When I called PSIP they told me the enrollment apparently takes around 10 business days (which ends up being half the month with weekends I guess?) to kick in so we have to pay out of pocket until then and file a claim, but I find that to be a long time to not be covered and need to pay extra and go through extra hoops to get reimbursed.

I originally tried a week ago and I still couldn’t schedule one this week because the insurance is still an issue. I’m just wondering do people commonly have this issue? Is there any thing you’ve done to get approval faster?

MTT versus America's Sweethearts

I only just started watching season 13 of Making the Team (around 3 episodes) and I'm not sure if it's just me but it just feels like we get to know the girls a lot better and actually see them and hear from them. I don't actually like the overproduced-ness of America's Sweethearts. It feels like they choose like 3-5 girls and ONLY show them, and it feels like the rest of the team is basically strangers. There's just something about the vibe of the show which I really don't like since it seems like story lines are overly curated and picked out. It almost seems like they're trying to paint the girls they chose in a certain light without more nuance about htem, and even the music and everything is eerie. I think it just feels not real when there's an entire team of women and we don't really see any of them enough but then we see a select few. Even in this season, too, I feel like I actually SEE Victoria and Dayton rather than overproduced and villianized versions of them. Maybe the Netflix show just feels too manufactured? Idk

Can I get refunded?

Is it allowed for instacart to sneakily charge a membership without going to a payment screen for the subscription immediately before my purchase?

Basically, I didn't click for instacart to buy an instacart+ membership, and there was no additional $104 payment screen (like, the way there is when you need to confirm an order). However, the next day I saw that on top of my order, instacart had purchased a membership. I noticed this a day later and called instacart.

When I talked to the person online, they said that the membership occureed around 5 minutes before my order and brought in exact minute-to-minute timestamps and said I wouldn't be able to be refunded, because you can only be refunded if you get a membership AFTER your last purchase. However, the only point I hit to pay something was during the order.

I mentioned that I did it out of my consent and there was no explicit button to sign of for a membership, and the person said he would escalate it but he doubted I would get refunded . Also he said the escalation process is ONLY available through email, so I cannot call to get this matter fixed. He said it would be unlikely to get refunded because the purchase was technically a few minutes before my order went through

He also explicitly said to me that it must have been in some fine print I didn't see that I signed up for a membership, so it clearly signed me up sneakily.

Also, on my order history it says I made the order on 5/10 and the membership was 5/11 which means it would have been AFTER the order, but I think they do something finnicky about times that these technically go through in order to prevent refunds.

He also said if the 5 day period passes before the escalation gets to me, then the 5 day period would pass. I never got an email that the case was escalated either, nor have they reached out to me yet even though I called them yesterday.

I'm very confused because I don't have a lot of money at this time in my life because I'm a grad student so getting $104 charged is a big deal for me.

At this point I might stop using instacart if they are charging for a membership without the user consenting, and putting it so much in the fine print.

Walking meditation guided?

Curious if anyone knows any good apps/courses online for walking meditation? I used to use headspace and do my own breathing exercises, but lately I would love a meditation during my commute.
