Need help choosing my first “serious” pick after 7–8 years of fingerstyle/rhythm playing

Hey everyone!

I’ve been playing guitar for around 7–8 years, but almost exclusively as an accompaniment to my vocals. I’m primarily a rhythm guitarist, and I’ve always played with my fingers (using longer nails).

I did try using random picks from local shops during my first 2–3 years of playing, but they never felt comfortable, so I eventually gave up and stuck to fingerstyle. Looking back, I think the real issue was that I never actually learned proper pick technique.

Now I want to make the switch, mainly for three reasons:

  1. I feel like learning proper pick technique will open up a lot more rhythmic variations and improve my overall playing.
  2. I finally want to learn to play lead guitar after listening to john mayer's songs, and a pick is pretty much essential for the style I want to play.
  3. Managing long nails is becoming a huge pain—they keep breaking, and I’m tired of depending on them.

So I’m looking for recommendations on a pick (or maybe two picks) that would suit someone in my position. Ideally:

  1. Great for rhythm and singing accompaniment.
  2. Also capable enough for learning lead guitar.
  3. Comfortable enough that I won’t hate the transition from fingerstyle.

I’m leaning towards Dunlop picks since they seem to have the biggest variety, but I’m completely lost between Tortex, Flow, Jazz III, Primetone, Ultex, Gator Grip, etc.

If you were in my shoes, which pick(s) would you recommend? Is there a good “2-in-1” option, or should I just buy two different picks for rhythm and lead?

For context, I mostly play Bollywood, soft rock, pop, and acoustic arrangements.

Would love to hear your suggestions—and if you’ve made the same transition from fingerstyle to picks, I’d love to know what worked for you!

Apple Earpods lighting vs 3.5mm

I'm thinking of going back to wired, for its simplicity of plug and play and superior mic quality! I had used iem's( like blon bl03, moondrop chu II ) before with the apple 3.5mm connector!
I use an iphone 14 pro and I have a mac mini that supports 3.5mm and a samsung tab s9 that doesn't have a 3.5mm slot! And a airpods 2nd gen for backup!

The answer I'm looking for is shall I get apple 3.5mm wired earpods and make use of it with my mac and iphone with the previous connector I have, or shall I get the lightning earpods directly instead for even better plug n play simplicity!

Compare it on: Sound quality and mic quality with apple dac!
