State Street’s trouble

Interesting article in the SB Independent from last Thursday. It is by a retail outfit and after crunching the data, they claim the drop in retail traffic is at least partly due to the freeway construction.

I agree that at the very least, the construction has not helped State Street.

It may also be that one demographic is more deterred by the freeway construction than other demographic, which could explain why the Funk Zone remains seemingly vibrant.

UPS at the center of the F-35 Stealth China problem

Bloomberg reported on Thursday that shipping giant UPS was sending a cockpit canopy and weapons bay door to the U.S. from Australia in late May when it was diverted.

The F-35 is a fifth-generation stealth fighter made by Lockheed Martin, and Washington controls the sale of these aircraft only to its closest partners and allies.

A $24 billion sale of F-35s to Saudi Arabia was approved last week, but some lawmakers in Congress have already expressed concerns over the technology finding its way into Chinese hands

Anyone received results in last month?

I as well as many others have not received results on samples submitted over 9 months ago.

I assumed we are just the exception rather than the rule. But, could it be that no one has received results recently?

Customer service worse?

I recently started re-using UPS for business and am astounded at how bad their website is and how useless their telephone support is. It has gotten worse in the last fee years.

Is this just me?

Nebula (aka ProPhase) "Substantial doubt...as a going concern"

ProPhase Labs, Inc. (PRPH) reports very strained finances for the quarter ended June 30, 2026 and states that there is substantial doubt about its ability to continue as a going concern. Cash and cash equivalents were only $20 thousand, against total current liabilities of $58.1 million, resulting in a significant working capital deficit and a stockholders’ deficit of $3.1 million.

Revenue from continuing operations was $1.0 million for the quarter and $2.2 million for the first six months of 2026, with a six‑month net loss from continuing operations of $8.2 million. Operating cash outflow from continuing operations improved to $0.8 million versus $4.2 million a year earlier, helped by non‑cash charges and working capital changes.

The company relies heavily on short‑term, high‑cost debt, convertible notes with variable‑price conversion features, and multiple “future receipts” financings, many with original issue discounts, fees and embedded derivatives recorded as derivative liabilities. It also entered an up to $10 million equity line and an ATM program but raised only modest equity in the period. Three diagnostics subsidiaries filed for Chapter 11 in 2025 as part of a strategy to pursue unpaid COVID‑19 testing claims, while ProPhase continues to focus on genomics (Nebula, DNA Complete), drug and supplement licensing (Equivir, Linebacker) and the BE‑Smart esophageal pre‑cancer test.

Noise: El Mercado de la Guerra

The band was so loud last night that the food vendors could not hear what their customers wanted to order.

Anyone else think the PA system was way too loud?

Mesa autobody scammer is back...picture of his car

Previously I reported on a guy in his 30s-40s stopping people on the road (pulls up aside you at a stoplight) and asking if you want a bodywork quote. He is clearly a scammer...pulled this on me a year ago and wanted me to go to an ATM to pay a down payment before he would agree to do the work.

This guy was back in the Lazy Acres lot again today, same as Monday. He was driving around in every lot in the area, looking for cars to harass...going quite fast. No one zips into parking lot after lot and does not stop.

A simple rule

When struggling with fools, it may be useful to say: Consider not forming opinions on subjects in which you have no formal education or professional/practical experience.

Anyone else been approached?

Europcar nightmare

Was turned away by this group because i did not have an international drivers license. Left us stranded in Rome for two days…trains to Trani also closed due to track upgrades…total nightmare.

Zero empathy, tried to blame it on us for not knowing this is required.

I saw a walker with 9 dogs! Six were large 40+ pounds. Someone needs to draw the line, no one can control that many dogs when a scuffle ensues.

Last week a woman was walking a single Mastif-mix, which decided it wanted to jump on me to get at a smaller dog i was holding to protect from the Mastif. The dog sitter emplored me to help her control the Mastif, stating “its not my dog and i do not know what to do”. She had no leash and no control over the dog and was panicking.

Considering adding Eremid Genomic Services as a provider (WGS, PacBio) to our clinic (major clinic with global exposure). Anyone have good or bad experiences or recommendations? Hoping their CLIA is not a mess.
