biking with toddler

I was just wondering how others feel regarding safety? We are thinking about how to get our three year old to 3k this fall, after getting a seat that’s a half hour walk from home. My husband doesn’t want to walk to the school & thinks biking with kid behind him in a bike seat is going to be fine, but I am risk averse because of all the terrible, unsafe drivers I see on a daily basis. I’m worrying about it and wonder about other parents’ experiences and if I’m being too anxious. We have bike lanes in our neighborhood but most aren’t protected.

wwyd touro fieldwork/clinical question

Hi, so this spring I joined a masters program at Touro and because I had some transfer credits, I can student teach in the fall. Touro’s fieldwork office is totally unhelpful, and wouldn’t help me find a placement, basically said you’re on your own. I emailed many many schools in my area, and eventually one (d75) program said yes to me. I don’t really know anything about the culture of the school, or who would be my cooperating teacher yet. The principal said to reach out later in the summer.

I guess my question for those more experienced is, should I go ahead into this unknown situation while very unsupported (by touro) ? or would it be wiser to pause, try and get some more work experience this year (either as a para, sub para, or sub teacher if noms open?) and then try to do student teaching in a school that I’ve already worked in. This was suggested to me by another person I know who works in d75. Or transfer out of touro entirely to a better program where advisors would know and coordinate fieldwork placements…

I appreciate any advice, feeling a lot of anxiety about this

air purifiers

does anyone use an air purifier in their apartment/ home and if so what would you recommend? in addition to all the pollution from being in a big city in general we live fairly near an interstate. We hope to move away from the interstate but can’t this year and I’m starting to worry about the health impact on kids.

fieldwork and student teaching hours for Touro

hi, I’m planning for my Special Ed clinical coursework in the fall in Touro’s Birth - Grade 2 program and secured a placement, while at the same time being on the fence about maybe trying to transfer to a better program instead. I wanted to ask about others’ experiences, especially if you were going into a new school as a student teacher (vs coordinating fieldwork with a school where you already are employed).

-How helpful were the Touro professors whi did your observations?

-Student teaching is traditionally full time but Touro just requires a set number of hours; has anyone done part time, for example a few hours a day for the fieldwork component? Do you think it would be acceptable to ask the cooperating school/teacher for that?

-has anyone else done their clinical placement in a D75 self contained setting and how was your experience?

stabbing pain & black blood during period

I had a weird experience yesterday and wondering if anyone else has had something like this happen? I frequently have pain around one of my ovaries and during my period yesterday, I suddenly felt stabbing pain there and a twinge/pop. Felt blood gushing out, and when I went to the bathroom it was very dark blood, almost black, and filled a pad. It was a LOT. I have only felt that sensation of gushing during miscarriage, not periods. I immediately wondered if something had burst, like maybe a cyst.

I messaged the doctor I recently saw, who is supposed to be an endometriosis specialist and had tentatively diagnosed me, and she said it wouldn’t be a burst cyst and it’s probably just « more pain and bleeding than usual ». But it’s not that it was more pain than usual - it wasn’t - it was just different.

It all just feels a bit off to me but I don’t know what else to ask and seems like the doctor is not concerned

working in d75 while pregnant

I’m sorry if it is offensive in any way to ask, but would you do this? I’m mostly thinking about physical safety. It would be with children somewhere in the K-2 range.

we thought we would trial homeschooling for the last 2 months of the school year, and after a week I feel I made a bit of a mistake. anyone else return their child to school after a brief time out (and have to eat their words about wanting to homeschool) ? I feel so stupid.
