Final Fantasy XIII Wasn't the Beginning of the End. It was Final Fantasy X

People like to point to Final Fantasy 13 as the beginning of the end for good Final Fantasy games with moving away from expansive worlds into a hallway sim with more and more complex battles systems but the reality is that X did it first and arguably just as bad. The first 4/5 of the story you're met with almost zero exploration as you traverse a glorified hallway with the seeming saving grace that you can sometimes go backwards in this hallway until you hit one specific area where the game... Kind of opens up? Before thrusting you back into more hallways until the end.

FFX is widely acclaimed but it's 100% the reason FF games went the way they did. Thank fuck for XII giving one last good entry though.

My Son and I Just Built Out a Fully Collectible and Tradeable Card Game Into Our RPG

So earlier this week I posted about how some people online kind of roasted my kid's art and even ran it through AI to, "Show how it could be better."

I showed him the thread and just the fact that he was getting support and he's been more driven to help. We just built a fully fleshed out card game as side content into our RPG and unlike almost any other mobile game our there, you can freely trade cards with your friends.

Thank you all for the support. Some people expressed interest in updates and this seems like a cool one

With Beta Fast-Approaching, Everyone Told Me That Every Good Monster Catcher Has a Card Game. So, I Built One Into the Game

With the beta coming out this month, a lot of people have asked me about a card game with my creatures. I play a lot of magic: the gathering in real life so it's only natural. So, I built one. Meet the card game companion on Thistle's Path where you can play through several CPU opponents or even play against your friend's constructed decks while also being able to collect rare and even serialized cards with each set.

The card game is simple, you play cards face-down, taking turns on who goes first. Once you've each played, most Nyxians are delayed. They flip face up and you're able to calculate the next turn's defense. As your turns pass, you can grow and evolve your lanes with new and exciting cards with deeper and more complex abilities as you work your army of Nyxians to take out your opponent. Your mana increases by one each turn allowing you to play stronger, better, and more Nyxians.

Where to Sell PC Locally

My son is looking to sell off a mini-PC that he traded some cards for for... Some reason. He already had a gaming PC so I haven't quite figured that one out but kids will be kids, I guess. It's a powerful little mini-PC with 32 gigs ram and a dedicated graphics card that all fits in the palm of your hand; he just has no real use for it and it hasn't been turned on more than 5 times since it was originally purchased. He's hoping to sell or trade it to someone for another nerd hobby but it seems like all of that is done on Facebook these days which none of us use. Any other suggestions for getting rid of such a thing?

My Son and I Have Been Building a Game. Some AI Bro Decided that His Art Isn't Good Enough and Ran Every Character Through AI

Now my fifteen year old is feeling insecure about his art and has lost his drive because the AI bros are telling him this shit. It's been such a fun bonding experience with such a unique style and now a bunch of talentless hacks are plugging his awesome artwork into a shitty LLM.

It's sad.

So... Any Android users want to test out Thistle's Path?

I am still working on getting my Android developer account set up but I now have a functional APK for the demo with about 30-40 monsters programmed in and accessible to users. Catching, battling, trading, abilities, and more with new content all the way up to floor 40 of the infinite maze and any content in the demo will carry over to the main game. If interested, message me here with your Gmail or hit me up on Discord where my username is lanceifer. (With the period).

Why Do Directors Keep Thinking It's a Brag when they Adapt Something Without Reviewing the Source Material?

A recent example is Craig Gillespie bragging that he made it a point not to review the amazing graphic novel before directing Supergirl; leading to lukewarm reactions but famously Kubrick had no interest in adhering to the story of The Shining, Zack Snyder frequently stated that he visually copied Watchmen but he wanted to make his own movie, sacrificing virtually everything the novel was about. Paul Verhoeven said Starship Troopers bored him after a chapter so he just made his own movie. Ridley Scott's bladerunner threw away the central themes and religious elements to focus on the noir film he wanted.

Why do directors think it's a flex to not give a shit about the beloved source material they're drawing from?

Thistle's Path - A Fully Hand-Drawn Monster Catcher with a Battle System Based on... Billiards?!?

Hello everyone! I'm here today to show off the first views of Thistle's Path. This is a game idea that my son and I have had for awhile and we're excited to finally bring it to fruition.

Thistle's Path is an endlessly expansive monster catcher RPG where you can collect over 100 different monsters and their rare variants and battle them against one another in a combat system based on billiards. That said, it's so much more.

Features:

Endless Dungeons - Thistle's Path's programatically created dungeons make for an infinite maze in the labyrinth allowing you to train your way up using newer and stronger Nyxians and with each floor you pass, the Nyxians that become accessible to you grown and change expanding your roster and arsenal.

Online Trading and Battling - Whether you want to throw your monsters at one another at their peak or meet each other on common grounds and levels, battle is a core element of this game. Battle and trade your friends to your heart's desire, allowing you to obtain new, rare, and exciting Nyxians or even special variants.

Uncapped Levelling - Because the focal point is community, online play is a centerpiece of our game. As such, with is trading and battling one another ad infinium, levelling is entirely uncapped as are the monsters you can go against.

Rare Variants - Thistle's Path ha multiple rare variants to catch of any Nyxian. Whether you want the illustrious celestial or the dreaded inverse, Thistle's Path will allow you to catch and trade to improve your collection. Build yourself up in the community and trade your way into being the best of the best.

Abilities - Every Nyxian family has an entirely unique ability, adding depth and complexity to battles and making you revisit learned strategies to find the best way to muscle forward.

Entirely unique Nyxians - Every Nyxian in the game that you catch will have unique stat modifiers, letting you farm for a truly optimal beast to face off against your most formidable foes.

Mini-games - Mining, fishing, and rumor has it that there's a built-in trading card game just around the corner...

Anyway, I suck at marketing but if you have any questions, I'd love to help out. Welcome to Thistle's Path!
