I'm looking for a Monster Taming game where grinding is inconsequential. As in, the strength of characters has no/little relation to how much they are used. Or another way to put it, I want to freely be able to make alterations to my load out without being greatly penalized for swapping in something I didn't put time into already.
The defining feature of various characters should be innate, not based on how much time/resources I have invested into them.
For clarity, since I have inquired about something similar in the past and had easy games recommended. I am not looking for a game that is easy and thus makes grinding is unnecessary. I likely would prefer a more difficult game (though that's not a requirement), so long as it tests your team composition and tactics, rather than offering the out to just grind.
If you started Monstra Cap today, which Monstra would you choose first?
Without going into too much detail, I'm building a shopkeeper simulator game. Except it involves summons/monsters that the NPCs can buy, upgrade, increase stats, add special moves etc. And the NPCs will battle against each other. I like the takes from a lot of people on this sub (plus I've been a fan of MR/Pokemon/Digimon since day 1), so I wanted to get some input before I dive too much into the design & mechanics of the monsters. Even if it's not a typical Monster Tamer game. Feel free to answer any questions and give any input even if it isn't a question I asked.
*It won't be for a while - but anyone who provides input, I'll throw your username down on a list and give away some beta keys and some free game codes!
What makes you continue collecting monsters after the first few hours? What keeps you hunting for more etc? Finding the strongest, rarest, unique (eg. Shiny)?
What evolution system do you find most satisfying? Out of: levelling, item, ritual/combining, branch evolutions, no evolutions, or other?
Would you rather have 30-40 highly distinct monsters, or 100+ monsters with minor differences?
Would you prefer monster abilities to come from leveling up, or from collectable books that can teach skills?
If you just think "Pokemon shop simulator" or "Monster Rancher shop simulator" aside from the monsters themselves, what else do you want to see as a purchasable items in the shop?
For player/shop progression, do you prefer to unlock things via levelling or talent tree?
For shop upgrades - aside from shop space and bigger/more battle spaces, what else would you potentially want to see?
What is the smallest feature set that would make you most excited to collect monsters/summons or play a game like this?
Feel free to give any and all input. I've only built the core gameplay loop of the shop itself and animations, so I still have a ton of art and monster/summoner battle stuff to build.
As the title says. I’d like to hear other people‘s approaches to creating unique monster tamer games. Do you start with mechanics & gameplay? World building & lore? The monsters themselves? Etc, etc.
I myself am trying to get into this, but I don’t know what to focus on first, so my attention is kind of scattered all over. Ideas bouncing all over the inside of my brain like a chaotic 3D pinball machine.
Hi everyone! I wanted to share a project that my brother and I have been working on called NeoCom (New Companions).
It's been a passion project that we've developed on and off for quite a while, and this year we're planning to launch a Kickstarter alongside a playable demo.
Over the years, the game has gone through a lot of changes, especially when it comes to the artwork and creature designs. I thought it would be fun to share the current starter companions and see what everyone thinks!
My brother unfortunately lost access to his Twitter account, so we're trying to start sharing the project in other communities and connect with people who enjoy creature-collecting games.
We hope you enjoy these starters, and we'd love to hear your thoughts and feedback. Thanks for checking them out! (:
Hey guys!
A little more than a week ago we announced the start of our Fakemon/Pemkie Contest made by the community, to be modeled and added into our game Pemkie Island.
So far these have been all the submissions and I have to say there are a lot of good ideas here!
If you want to see them more closely, there is a post on our subreddit r/pemkieisland where we show all of them, and if you're interested in participating, as I said there is still one week left, HERE you can find all the rules to submit one of yours!
What do you think of them? Which one you like the most so far? We'll open a poll for the community to vote when the contest ends, if you don't want to draw anything, you could stick around, vote your favourite and eventually follow their creation from concept to in game model!
HELLO EVERYONE!
We've been hard at work on our monster taming RPG, Alchemic Beasts, and we're proud of how far we've come.
When we first entered the Summer Gamesfest, our goal was simple: reach 500 additional wishlists. So, imagine our surprise when we surpassed 7,000 total wishlists in just one week!
We want to thank every one of you for supporting us throughout this journey. Your support has meant the world to our team.
Recently, we attended Trenton's first Anime Convention, where we had the opportunity to meet fans face to face and let people try the first playable version of Alchemic Beasts. The response was very positive, and it was great to see so many people connect with the world we've been building.
Soon, a more polished, and feature rich demo will be out for all to play, and we can't wait for everyone to experience our cool monster taming game.
To stay up to date on the game's development and be among the first to playtest future builds, support us through our Alchemic Beasts Kickstarter.
We truly can't express how grateful we are to have such an incredible community of monster taming fans behind us.
I wanted to post this here. Another project that's a bit on my backburner. I've always been super inspired by Monster Rancher and wanted to make a spiritual successor in card game format. it'd be a celebration of the Monster Taming genre as well as an opportunity to collaborate with dope artists! You'll recognize some references to the Monster Rancher roster like Golem, Pixie, Tiger Mew, Niton, joker etc. or some that expand on the concepts of certain monsters. Like the concept of "unity" in ColorPandora seen in the conjoined monster Argeebe.
The Mascot is Rybo(the orange rabbit rat), who's inspired by Moochi, Pikcahu and Agumon all in one. Its the only monster in the series that would have a fusion with every other monster. Above you will see all the main breeds, some of them even evolve. For example the bug(Pyupup) and the sprout (Babeed) both have evolved forms. Similar to how Worm can become Beaclon.
I wanted the monster to be true fusions rather than color swaps , sometimes even developing new characteristics. For example the ape (Rangabang) is more of a seamonkey when fused with the shellfish (Spyvalve).
The card game is a simple Rock, Paper Scissors base that determines who goes first. You call out your move during the battle phase which then has a cooldown turn after use. So you can't consecutively throw out Rock, you have to wait until the turn after the next to use it, UNLESS the move says otherwise. Moves have added effects like jamming other moves, wiping the field, revealing hands, etc. There are also Equip cards and counter cards to add to the strategy. I'd love to come back to this project , maybe even collab with others to bring it to life. The goal was to kickstart a full set that could be mixed and matched into multiple decks. The ultimate goal is to combine your pure breed monsters into fusion monsters and dominate the game in first to get 3 KOs
Does anyone know if this game has been translated? I know there was a Pokemon rom hack made based on this game, but I can't find any news about an English translation of the game that keeps the experience faithful.
We updated our demo with a lot of new content:
Play it here https://store.steampowered.com/app/4226970/Monster_Alchemy_Demo/
Look folks, It’s not a “contest” and stuff like Palworld or Temtem grew their own fandom but Lumentale is such a fascinating story with such creative monster designs.
How come theirs barely any fanart of them?
Montabi releases on August 6! And yes, we made a rap trailer to announce it. Here’s how we ended up making a full rap trailer inspired by the PokeRap.
First things first, Montabi is a monster taming roguelike deckbuilder where positioning is key. As a trainer, you can tame monsters, build multiple decks, and battle your cards on grid.
We were brainstorming the craziest ideas for our release date trailer. Since we’re making a monster taming game, PokeRap was a concept that we wanted to explore one way or another.
The tricky part was that we also needed to explain our roguelike deckbuilding mechanics. So we tried leaning into a more comedic explanation style to match the vibe.
Eventually, that sparked the idea: what if the entire trailer… is a rap?
So we ran with it.
What do you think about it?
If you’re interested, you can try the Montabi demo on Steam. We also have an update coming for June Next Fest if you’re looking for something new.
Thanks for checking this out!
