2019 Ascent issues? Reliability?

Hi all. My daughter is out car shopping and is about to fall in love with a 2019 Ascent with only about 32,000 miles on it. I’m a Forester owner, and know nothing about Ascents. Are there specific red flags with that year? Things she needs to look closely at? Sadly, we don’t have any independent Subaru mechanics here in Indianapolis, so if she wants to have it checked out, she’ll have to take to a dealership.

Thanks!

Twinmill

I just discovered this sub, and I thought I would share a Hot Wheels error I’ve had since I was a kid. A Twinmill with the engines mounted backwards.

Avoid SubaruPartsDeal

Over three weeks ago, I ordered a cabin air filter for my 2020 Forester Sport. For whatever reason, I used SubaruPartsDeal.com. Their website showed the correct part…the familiar black plastic frame with filter media that clicks into place behind the glove box (SoA part number 72880FL000A) What they sent me, though, was simply a big frameless square of filter media. It wasn’t even the same size as the cabin filter. It had an SoA part number 72880FL0000.

So, I contacted them immediately. I was to email them a refund request along with photos of the part they sent. I did this immediately. I got no response affirming they received my emailI.

I had been pointed to page on their website where I could track the progress of my refund request. For over two weeks, the status was always “Processing.” There’s a text field on the page to use for contacting them, but no matter what I typed, it always threw a “cannot use special characters” error and never sent my message. The only possible “special character” I used was a period. I have a feeling the text field is a sham, intended to thwart contact.

Tonight, I finally got a flurry of three emails in a row from them.

The first email said the part they sent was interchangeable with the part I ordered, per Subaru (which is, of course, bullshit.) Basically, they’re claiming they sent the correct part (which they absolutely did not.)

The second email, though, said my refund request had been approved. Now, all I had to do was fill out a form (to come in the third email) and ship it and the part back to them at my expense. And, my refund is subject to a 20% restocking fee.

And the form they sent me, under the “reason for return” field, they’ve printed “no longer needs” and not “shipped wrong part.” That’s important because they said they would pay for my shipping if the return was because of their mistake. Note that in email 1 they are saying the part they sent was a correct replacement. So, no bad on their part.

Through all this, I went ahead and ordered the cabin air filter from SubaruOnlineParts, and had the correct part in the Forester in less than a week.

Just avoid SubaruPartsDeal.

2026 Forester Recall

Apparently, Subaru is doing a recall for 2026 Foresters (including hybrids) for a moonroof problem. They say it can become detached.

Riccar R500 motor cover seal

I was cleaning out the mess inside my mom’s old Riccar 500 upright (overstuffed bag left to overflow for many months) and in the process of removing that little foam filter that sits at the bottom of the compartment (it was stuck down by all the crud) I somehow managed to also remove the rubber motor cover seal. But, now I can’t figure out how it goes back in. It isn’t torn or ripped or damaged in any way. I’ve looked at whatever schematics I can find online, but they’re just exploded views with no information on how the seal actually fits.

Can some kind person help me out?

Thanks!
