Flying with my cat but he might be too fat/big?

I am moving from Ontario (small city near Toronto) to Montreal and I wanna take my cat with me on a plane just so the trip is shorter than the train and he doesn’t suffer much. Because Via rail is 10 hrs to Montreal from my city and the plane is about~5 hrs (including the trips to the airport/house). The cabin pet carrier dimensions they allow are 41 L × 25.4 W × 21.5 H cm according to the website but the cat carriers available I can buy are either 41 L × 21 W × 24 H cm which holds an 8 lbs cat or 45L x 31W x 32H cm which holds up to 20 lbs cat and my cat is 20.3 lbs! He is not only a bit fat but genuinely a big cat (we’re on a diet but the vet said he is just a big cat with huge paws). I can never check him in because that is dangerous but I’m wondering if anyone has experience with taking a cat on board. How strict are they with these dimensions? I’m also trying to call them but currently cannot get through to anyone. Any advice would be appreciated!

Downtown studio vs Hochelaga Apartment as a new coming Mcgill student?

Hi guys,

I'm starting as a grad student at Mcgill this fall and I've been having a really hard time deciding which apartment to choose as someone coming from Ontario (a small city) and I could use some perspective from Mcgill students here.

1 bedroom nice sunny apartment in Hochelaga (ave valois) vs a studio apartment in a condo with amenities in Place des Arts (St-Alexandre)... The 1 bdr is $1480 per month all inclusive and the studio is $1580 per month all inclusive.

I believe the commute difference is 15-ish minutes in the metro? Montreal winters scare me im ngl and I'm just wondering what your experience is as a student if you lived downtown or further away. I wanna go with the slightly bigger place but my friends and family say it's very important to be downtown as a student so I could really use some feedback from actual Mcgill students here!

Also, I visited Montreal for only 4 days to look at some houses and the city is so gorgeous!! So excited to live there (I've been taking french lessons for a year now so let's see if it'll help me loll)

Is it crazy to pay $1750 for a 1 bedroom apt in downtown?

Hi guys, sorry if this is a dumb question for this sub but I've been really going back and forth with this question in my mind. I'm moving to Montreal from Ontario thanks to an opportunity so I really don't know much about Montreal's rent prices. I want a place in downtown so it's close to McGill Uni where I will be spending most of my time doing research. The cheapest 1 bdr I found is $1400 all inclusive and it's not bad, definitely liveable but not ideal (also 20 mins via metro).

This other one I found is 10 min walking distance to McGill and very beautiful but quite small and literally a 100 years old (which imo gives it a charm but it's not newly renovated at all) and it's $1750 all inclusive.

Now if I was a smart individual I would take the $1400 one and save some money but I've been living with terrible roomates in a terrible room during my entire undergrad in Ontario and I just want to live in a house that makes me feel happy. But I was paying $700 for my room so $1750 will be a huge jump from that. Can I afford it? It would be 50% of my monthly salary so technically yes... but would it be stupid?

Is this a ridiculous price for a small 1 bdr apartment?

My sister’s cat just got diagnosed with FIP two days ago and they’re starting treatment in a day or two. She needs to go to work tomorrow for 8 hours. She cannot take time off of work and she’s freaking out. We called the 24/7 vet but they’re not answering. Is it okay to leave the cat at home before treatment when she goes to work? The cat’s hind legs aren’t completely working, sometimes he can step on them but sometimes they fall asleep and he’s not fully in balance but he can still walk over to eat food and drink water and use his litter box.

He will get shots for it for 84 days starting in a day or two.

I’d appreciate any answers or advice to help my sister out :)
