what are the true indications for nothing PO in the ER?

Intern here, a very common pt concern and question is whether they can eat or not. Other than the potential to undergo surgery, I am not really certain when a patient can, and cannot, have a turkey sandwich. Truthfully, not certain which procedures they definitely cannot eat before, and which do not matter. Any hard rules or guidelines I can employ?

Edit: this appears to be a pretty debated topic; enjoying reading all the answers though

German roaches in multi-condo unit, what is a reasonable time until resolution?

I am in Florida and we discovered german roaches after moving in (leasing company definitely lied when I asked about bugs, love that for us). Orkin has been coming out every 2 weeks for almost 2 months now. The last time they "upgraded" and she will be returning to wall dust. Our pest control tech said they may be coming from other units and suspects at least 2 more months until resolution?? Are they not doing a good job? Is that a reasonable timeline (4 months total)? Should we considered another pest control company? There are 8 condos in the unit, so uncertain if they are coming from elsewhere. I could possibly request they escalate to the HOA to inquire as to whether other units are impacted. The other option was for us to pay out of pocket to bomb the place, which I am open to but not if it will just make the problem worse behind the scenes. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Just for additional info we were initially seeing about 4 a day, now we can go a couple days without seeing any before seeing one or two. I think it has improved slightly but every adult roach encounter feels world ending. I have also been placing down advion gel bait whenever/wherever I see a roach.

Should I tell my program about a recent concussion?

Pretty much the title. I sustained a concussion a few weeks ago after what I initially thought was relatively minor head trauma. I'm starting residency orientation in a few days.

My symptoms have definitely improved overall. During the first several days, I could barely function. Since then, I've been doing everything I can for recovery: non-contact physical activity, vestibular exercises, and gradual exposure to busy environments.

That said, I still occasionally get waves of what I can only describe as feeling "drunk" or off-balance. My ENT thinks it's reasonable to give it a few more weeks before pursuing additional workup if things stop improving. I know my sxs are worsened by stress, cognitive overload, and sleep deprivation which is making the start of residency feel a little intimidating.

Losing invites and being completely lost on event information?

I have received so many texts asking for an address, or the time that the event starts. Asking about the dress code. All information that was on the website, which was listed on the invite. Is this a laziness issue? Literally had someone book a place in the wrong town because they "swear I said that town". But like... this person had been on the website multiple times?? Where the information was listed, in addition to the website?

Visiting family and bringing guests to hotel pools?

I am visiting Vegas next weekend and staying at park MGM, while some family are staying at the Bellagio and others at a BNB. Would it be impossible for me as a park MGM guest to go to the pool with my family staying at the Bellagio and vice versa? I am trying to read up on policies, but given that they are both MGM properties does that matter at all?

would appreciate any insight, thank you!

I know this is a very first world question given all the fires and muggings currently being discussed in this reddit sub (stay safe ya'll), but was just curious if anyone has any favorite local spots.
