Confirm educational degree?

I know this guy. He claims to have a PhD. in psychology. A cursory search has not revealed his dissertation and the institution he claims to have graduated from requires his written permission to reveal if he ever took a class there. What free resources can I use to determine if he is being truthful about … anything? Please and thank you.

Mitsubishi 'Auto Mode' isn't.

I see that in Auto mode, my Mitsubishi PAR-42MAACAB heat pump remote commands heating even when the set point is below the sensed ambient. In Dry mode, it commands cooling instead. Please educate me?

My prototype looks like Frankenstein's monster, but I'm desperate. Help me find a reliable PIR magnetic light?

Hi all,
I have a confession: I am a magnetic Passive Infrared (PIR) rechargeable light addict. Over the years, I've bought dozens of them—usually from AliExpress.
They have a staggering 20% infant mortality rate, and the survivors only last about 6 days before begging for a charger.
It looks like I’ll have to buy a 3D print farm just to manufacture my own reasonably priced, reliable lights that can actually survive 35 days on a charge.
To prove how desperate I am, I hacked together a prototype using a salvaged PCB and a high-capacity 18650 cell. The good news? It works beautifully and has fantastic runtime. The bad news? It is uglier than sin.

Before I accidentally get a visit from the bomb squad, can anyone point me to a reasonably priced, highly reliable PIR magnetic light with extended runtime?
Please and thank you!

Speed Queen TR5 Latch workaround?

TL;DR: Will the lid unlatch if I turn off the power?
I ordered two TC5 washers. I was sold by the mechanical reliability and the lack of a lid latch. Luckily, my retailer changed the order and installed two TR5 washers instead, then ghosted me. So now everything is controlled electronically and the lid latches during the spin cycle. Yay. My favorite nightmare is that the washer fails during the spin cycle and freezes with the lid latched. Question: Will the lid unlatch if I cut the power? Please and thank you.

2020 Forester base hatch latch malfunction

Hi all. I Googled and looked in s/subaruforester to no avail. When I attempt to open the hatch, the latch appears quite sticky. It takes 3 tries on average before it unlatches. I sprayed the latch mechanism with silicone lubricant and it works a little better. Is the latch considered a consumable like say an oil filter?

Eyesight TL;DR Clean the inside of your windshield, too.

I wondered for weeks why Eyesight kept turning off 10 times per mile. I finally realized that the inside of my windshield was filthy. A quick clean and Eyesight now works properly.

Schlage F51A ACC 619 16-211 defective?

I’m only an electronics technician, so be brutal!
Two weeks ago, I installed one of these lock sets. It replaced a lock set of the same model number. It worked great for about a week, then it became difficult to unlock. On disassembly, only four of the five top T pins and only four of the five T pin springs came out. On inspection, it appeared that the remaining T pin spring had partially unwound and had become trapped between the remaining top T pin and its bore. It appeared as if this T pin was permanently retracted. I assume the related bottom pin often became trapped in the gap provided by the permanently retracted top T pin, preventing the lock from opening.

Can I expect my replacement lock set to fail too?

Please and thank you.

Steamed Veggies?

TL; DR Could you please share your recipe for delicious steamed vegetables?

Hi all. There is a restaurant near me that serves a dish atop an assortment of steamed vegetables. (Broccoli, pearl onions, bell pepper, even some carrots.) I eat the veg first, because they are really delicious. They are served hot but not overcooked at all. They have gratifying snap and flavor. Now, when I try to prepare steamed vegetables, they are just bland and soggy. Clearly there is a seasoning and/or some technique the restaurant is using to produce this remarkably consistent and delicious dish. So, what’s the secret? Please and thank you.
