Serious problem in filing ITR 4 - can someone help ?

Ok, I have a very specific issue with ITR filing this year. I do some mentoring for B school students and earn some money out of it. Last year I filed ITR 4 too and selected the Business code 17006. It worked rather well and there was no issue in validation. This year though I am getting the error Select the business code from the dropdown menu !! This is kind of supremely irritating as that is exactly what I am doing, how else can you do it anyway ?

Internet suggested some different codes, clearing cache, redoing the return etc and I have done all of those but to no avail whatsoever. My experiences earlier with the ITR helpdesk has not been great and they are probably closed for the weekend anyway.

Can someone help with this frustrating scenario ? Appreciate your time to read the post :)

The Bangladeshi influx - why and how did Mamata do this ?

First the why - I will only deal in points so that it is a short read.

  1. Mamata understood quite early that a good section of the Left front votes were from illegal Bangladeshi immigrants. She even raised this in parliament, but then UPA was having Left front as part of government.

  2. Despite all odds she was able to win in 2011 as the election was fair as in this year.

  3. A lot of Left front leaders left after 2011 and got into the TMC. They brought with them the knowhow and the means of voter fraud and corruption in general.

  4. Mamata was convinced that if she could increase the Muslim votes to about 30% then it will be almost impossible to defeat her electorally.

  5. To achieve this she started shameless muslim appeasement and also tried to increase the numbers by getting people from Bangladesh.

Now the how part :-

  1. TMC people appointed agents in Bangladesh to encourage people move to West Bengal. They would pay a fee and cross over.

  2. On the Indian side the BSF was co-opted so they turned a blind eye. Even otherwise the border was far too extensive for them to guard it well.

  3. Once on the Indian side, these people will first get some Panchayat level ID and then progressively get the rest of them, culminating in the voter card.

  4. For people who are asking why centre gave them Aadhaar card etc, you need to know how the system actually works, it is all in the state level.

  5. Those people who did not have voter cards would still be used to cast their votes as dead voters or shifted voters from the electoral rolls. This explains why Mamata was so much against the SIR.

  6. Finally the Rohingyas were used to commit small and large crimes for the TMC

Happy to discuss this or know more about it. Feel free to comment or critique generously.

I was astounded to hear the ex-CM of West Bengal speak yesterday - what are your views ?

I saw her speech on YouTube yesterday and was amazed at the lies and chicanery. Anyone who listens to it and does not have the appropriate context will think the following :-

  1. The election was a completely fraudulent exercise.

  2. The voters elected her party but somehow the results were contrived to make her lose.

  3. In her parallel universe, she has actually got more seats than the BJP - 220 plus to be precise.

  4. The people of Bengal are being tortured daily since the results ,and are being ruled by a CM who she does not want to mention by name.

  5. The state and its people will have to rise against this evil government and overthrow it somehow.

To me, she is completely delusional but this is making some people outside Bengal, who are anti-BJP wonder if there is some truth in what she is saying.

What do people on the ground in Kolkata feel ? I think there are a lot of positive actions, but my opinions are only based on secondary information.

Will be interested to get the views of both sides on this issue. Let's stick to the issue and avoid rhetoric, if possible :)

What's happening in Kolkata ? Opinions I hear are very divided !!

As a Bengali who has been out of Bengal for a long time, I have remained very invested in the state and many call me "more Bengali than most living here "!!

Needless to say, I was very frustrated with the 50 years of rule, first by the Left front and then by the TMC that managed to ruin the state completely. I had rejoiced in the BJP victory and had thought the city of Kolkata will be quite positive about the future.

What I see and read, of course from the outside, is a little different. While the BJP seems to be getting some things done at breakneck speed, several others are criticizing almost every move of them, be it the eviction of hawkers from the stations or the legitimate bulldozer action against illegal buildings. Some others are convinced that the corrupt TMC people will join the BJP and this will only bring things back to the earlier state.

I am interested in knowing the reasons for these mixed messages. Personally, I think the change has been great for Bengal and the government has really started as well as they could have. It is senseless for us to expect miracles in two weeks when we were having criminal tolerance for 15 years :)

Also, people living in Kolkata, do comment on the changes that you see around you. I hope to visit Kolkata sometime this year and am looking forward to seeing some positive changes.

For all the TMC goons, party workers, leaders, supporters and apologists of their terrible 15 years rule - It is time to wake up and smell the coffee !!

Over the last few days I watched some oif the Bengali YouTube channels and social media content and I must say they were rather hilariously delusional in their content. It seems to me these people are living in some alternate universe - for some the recent elections and their results did not happen and for others, while it did happen it will somehow change soon :)

Let me give you a few points to show why I am saying the above :-

* In some places the TMC goons are still trying to do extortion as usual.

* The goons and party workers are still indulging in violence, a few of the BJP workers have also been killed, several others injured.

* Some leaders are still hoping that something will happen to the election results through the Supreme court or otherwise.

* Mamata and her coterie is blaming the BJP for exactly the same things that they had perpetrated so brazenly after the 2021 elections.

* Mob belonging to a particular community tried to foment violence and unrest, thinking that things will be as before - they did get a quick reality check.

* TMC supporters and YouTubers take the cake - not one intelligent discussion about why such a rout came about, they just want to defend the indefensible track record of TMC.

My advice to all these people will be to wake up and smell the coffee. You have had your cheese for 15 long years but now it has indeed moved. If you try to behave in the same manner, it will only result in personal misfortune and TMC will not be able to stand by you in any manner. As I see it, the following are likely to happen :-

* The SIR issue is likely to fizzle out in the SC. Once the adjudication is over, I do not think anything more than 10-12 lacs will get voting rights.

* Even if you take that TMC would have got all these votes, they would still not have crossed 100 seats anyway, so the SIR is a moot point.

* Mamata will get embroiled in the IPAC raid case. At best she can get away with a serious reprimand, at worst she is looking at a jail term.

* For Abhishek and a lot of other TMC leaders the law will take its own course.

* BJP will focus on the infrastructure, industrialization, welfare schemes, eradication of corruption and there will be serious changes in West Bengal by the end of the year.

* The political end game for the BJP is to get 30 plus seats in the Lok sabha elections of 2029, this will easily take their tally to 300 plus.

* In terms of West Bengal, I find it almost impossible to visualize the TMC making a comeback. It is a party without any ideology, is high on criminality and corruption and have brought the state to the brink of destruction.

* The final point - some YouTubers have pointed out that TMC still has 40 % plus votes. They clearly lack any political intellect - these perople voted the TMC thinking they are voting for the winning party. Now that they realize it is not going to be so, a lot of them will shift their voting allegiance.

All in all , West Bengal remains a politically interesting state but not because of the TMC - it is to see if the BJP can change the fortunes of the state and its people.

FIR filed against Abhishek speeches by a person badly affected by political violence of TMC - what about his cheerleaders?

I am happy that someone has finally bitten the bullet and ensured that the FIR has been filed. Hopefully, there will be progress on the investigation and the process of chargesheet etc.

I am worried about something else. While Abhishek was a terrible person, not suitable for being called a human being, leave alone a leader, what about his party seniors including his aunt Mamata and the so called intellectuals of Bengal who saw nothing wrong with such speeches ? On the contrary they became his active cheerleaders , of course this has stopped after the 4th of May.

Why is it that the people of Bengal condone or actively support absolutely appalling and abhorrent behaviour from their political leaders ? Are they so scared that expressing an opinion about what is right or wrong is too much for them ? In a democracy the people deserve the government they have elected. The sad reality is that for 15 years Bengal elected ( election was stolen in 2021 ) a monstrous government and paid the price - some with just lack of development but others with even their lives and well being.

Would really like to know the viewpoints of the people of Kolkata and larger West Bengal. I do not live there, but I am a quintessential Bengali in many ways - of course, I am always an Indian first.

Do comment - let us have a lively weekend discussion!!!

As you sow so shall you reap - don't be sorry for Mamata and Abhishek, they deserve much worse !!!

I was watching some news programs on TV yesterday, where several people were saying that the epithets hurled on Mamata and her party during her Court appearance yesterday was not right.

I am amazed at this hypocrisy. We should respect her for what ? The blatant corruption, the looting of West Bengal through multiple scans, the numerous rapes where the rapists went unpunished, the post poll violence of 2021 that shocked every person except her party and their supporters?

I saw another video where Abhishek Banerjee was saying that it is not Bengal's culture to promote violence. Really ? What Abhishek orchestrated in 2021 and what he had said just before the results are still doing the rounds on Facebook and YouTube.

Sorry, I am quite clear about this. Both of them and all their party people deserve every bit of slander, calumny and reprisals that will happen now. When they committed the crimes in a brutal and totally shameless manner, they should have thought about the consequences.

Karma is indeed amazing - it will have the last laugh always !!!

The sins of an ex-CM that we should neither forgive nor forget !!!

I am only putting a few down here, these are the ones that I personally know about, I am certain that others can add literally to this.

  1. Her attempts to both normalize and distort all the high profile rape cases. This started with the Park street rape case of 2011 and continued to the Kasbah law college and Durgapur rape case of 2025. In all cases she actively tried to subvert the process of law, sometimes punishing the police officers such as Damayanti Sen who actually solved the case!!

  2. Her active collusion and scuttling of justice in the Abhaya case of R G Kar Medical College. She phoned the Kolkata CP and organized a massive cover up and destruction of evidence.

  3. Her taking oath in the name of Allah in 2016, the only non-muslim CM to have ever done so.

  4. Making West Bengal the scam capital of India through corruption in every sphere of public life - jobs, food supply, coal/sand/cattle smuggling etc.

  5. Taking retail corruption to unheard of levels anywhere in the world through cut money, syndicate raj, extortion of small businesses etc

  6. The above was directly responsible for the massive deindustrialization of West Bengal.

  7. Not focusing on infrastructure building at all in the latter two terms, the first one was relatively better.

  8. Shameless appeasement of one community where utter lawlessness by them was condoned and a blind eye was turned on for all the rioting and arson committed by them.

  9. Taking over of the Left front goons and encouraging them to become far worse over the next 15 years.

10 Horrific incidents of political violence through all the three terms that she ruled.

Given all this, I am surprised that she even got , 80 seats for the party, the Muslim vote saved her from a much greater embarrassment :)

Just curious - are the life size images and cutouts of a certain ex-CM gone from Kolkata now ?

One of the reasons I did not like visiting Kolkata was the all pervasive presence of her posters, images and cutouts at every nook and corner of the city. It must have been irritating to her ardent followers, as a virulent critic it was anathema to me.

Out of all the tasks that the new government and the general public has to get done, I think this should be the top priority !!!

I have followed the BJP since it's birth in 1980 and some of their leaders like L K Advani and Atal Bihari Vajpayee even before that. When the party got just 2 seats in the 1984 lok sabha elections, an election where the Congress party of Rajiv Gandhi got more than 400 seats, most political pundits had advised them to pack up.

Well, the BJP knew better and they have shown over the years that their goal is to be a nationalist party, trying to work for the country to make it better. They have had great support from the people of India in this endeavour. Some of the best victories and the significance has been as follows :-

  1. 1989 Lok Sabha - The BJP went from 2 to 85 seats and supported the VP Singh government from the outside.

  2. 1991 UP - A win that made Kalyan Singh the CM

  3. 1995 Maharashtra - Formed government with Shiv Sena

  4. 1996 Lok Sabha - Became the single largest party and had the 13 day government.

  5. 1998/1999 Lok Sabha - Great wins that made Vajpayee the PM for 6 glorious years.

  6. 2005 in Bihar - Tied up with JDU to outst Lalu from Bihar.

  7. 2014/2019/2024 Lok Sabha we all know about.

  8. Recent Vidhan Sabha wins - Assam ( 2016/2021/2026), Haryana ( 2014, 2019.2024), Maharashtra ( 2014, 2019, 2024), Odisha ( 2024)

The Bengal win is great because no one really gave the BJP a chance against the TMC. They were seen to be an outsider party without any great organization here and fighting corrupt and fraudulent electoral practices of a criminal and violent party such as the TMC.

What the win shows is that in democracy, people have the final word and they can never be taken for granted. The TMC created an atmosphere of fear and reprisal and thought the public would not dare to go against them. However, once the EC ensured free and fair election and there was a viable alternative shown by the BJP, the TMC had no chance at all. The final loss for them was rather humiliating.

Bengal is rid of an evil. corrupt, criminal government and there is a lot to do for the BJP. Their goal to build a Sonar Bangla resonates with all Bengalis like me. It will take time, but what a great goal to have !!!

So for all the TV pundits claiming a constitutional crisis etc, the end was really swift and simple. The West Bengal governor T Ravi has dissolved the West Bengal assembly with immediate effect.

Mamata Banerjee may not have resigned as the CM but she is not even an MLA now. She is clearly a persona non grata in all official places - including her domain of 15 years, Nobanno.

This news really makes my day. Share in the comments how you feel about it. In the end she went without grace, with a lot of calumny, a humiliation at the hustings and very little to show in terms of the development of West Bengal in 15 long years.

I hope she and her party are happy with the complete corruption, violence and ruin they have brought upon the state.

Bengal will rise from here, even though it will take some time and a lot of hard work to catch up with the rest of India !!!
