Sixt Edinburgh fleet

This will be my first time renting with Sixt (I got tired of shitty cars with Avis). I chose a Cupra Formentor or similar (IFAR). Any idea on what are the options Sixt has for this car category at Edinburgh airport?

Qatar Airways cancelled my DOH-CEB flight — rerouting saga

My family (2 adults + 1 toddler) had:
18 Dec 2026: BCN–DOH–CEB, ~17h, 1 stop
4 Jan 2027: MNL–DOH–BCN

Qatar cancelled the entire BCN–DOH–CEB outbound because they withdrew the Doha–Cebu route.

I requested rerouting under EU261 Article 8, rather than a refund. Qatar initially offered only a refund/date change and repeatedly said Emirates, Singapore, Asiana and Korean Air weren’t eligible under their rebooking policy.

Eventually they offered:

QR142 BCN–DOH → QR928 DOH–MNL → PR1841 MNL–CEB

That’s ~23h40, 2 connections, a 5h40 overnight Manila layover, and a 03:30 flight to Cebu — versus my original ~17h/1-stop itinerary. Also, having to cross the border and handling the luggage before taking the internal flight.

I challenged this as not being comparable transport conditions. Customer Care acknowledged my concerns but sent me back to Reservations.

After waiting a couple of weeks, Customer service eventually said they could check alternative airlines, so I specifically asked them to avoid Manila and pointed out that Emirates, Singapore Airlines and Asiana/Korean offer one-stop BCN–CEB options on 18 December.

They checked and have now clarified their position:

“At present, Philippine Airlines is the only partner airline available for travel to Cebu, with a connection via Manila.”

So their current position is essentially: other airlines may sell BCN–CEB flights, but Qatar will only involuntarily rebook me on Qatar itself or its eligible partner airlines, and currently PAL via Manila is the only option.

I’m still pushing for rerouting rather than a refund.

If I accept the full refund and go for Emirates or another option. I would have to pay +€1.500 for the same itinerary I bought. I bought it with Qatar because my Silver status (sad, I know, but better than nothing), not because of the price. Back when I bought the ticket all the options were priced similarly.

Question: Has anyone successfully challenged this kind of “internal rebooking policy/interline agreement” limitation under EU261 Article 8, particularly when a significantly more comparable itinerary is available on another airline?

Scotland trip suggestions

We will take some days in Scotland (2 adults + one 2yo toddler). Flights will be:

We will rent a car for the duration of the trip.

As of now I have:

- 21-22 South Queensferry

Destination suggestions

Hi all! My pinay wife, our 2yo kid and I will visit the Philippines on December/January. Along with staying at her parents’ place, we want to have a 4/5 nights trip with her family around the country. She is suggesting Samal Island but I’m not sure about it mainly because of safety issues.

What other options can we consider? I’ve been to Palawan 5 times already but her family has never been there so it will be my first option (which I will try to fight for 😁).

We’ve already been to:
- Coron
- Siargao
- Bohol and Panglao
- Siquijor
- Bantayan
- Boracay

Any suggestions? Is Samal any unsafe compared to the rest of the Philippines?

'24 G80 M3 Competition xDrive - Problems with the braking system

My car is giving me problems for already one year.

I was about to go for a trip on the 06/06/2025 (with 24.078 km on the odometer) and I started getting different error messages in the iDrive. The error messages where (translated from Spanish):

- Brake boost: Service Request
- Chassis Stabilization: Service Request
- Driving Assistance Support Reduced: Service Request
- Power brakes: More pedal force is required to brake. Drive moderately. Have it checked at your nearest Authorized Workshop.

The brake pedal was very hard and I only really manage to brake the car by pressing it extremely hard. I barely made it to the dealer. The workshop did not identify the cause: they updated the braking system and some other systems, tested the vehicle and return it to me.

Second occurrence was on 17/03/2026, same iDrive messages. This time I took the car to the workshop and did not turn it off, so they could directly verify the messages on the iDrive and the hard pedal. They held it for a week and consulted the BMW technical department in Germany. They replaced the brake servo (hydraulic unit), updated the softwares, tested the vehicle and returned to me.

Third occurrence was on 07/05/2026, a few weeks after replacing the brake booster. Same symptoms and messages. I was unable to take the vehicle to the workshop because I was in a hurry so I just parked it again and took another car. The error went away on its own.

I asked the dealer for the digital history, all repair orders, ISTA diagnostics, test results, replaced parts and technical conclusions. They only gave me the repair orders. They confirmed in writing: "The reason why we decided to replace the power brake system is because in one and only opportunity the fault record 4808B4 DSC unit has intermittently appeared: Plausibility, braking pressure of the linear actuator too high."

And they refused to give me the rest of the documentation: "From the dealer we are not authorized to disseminate such information, since the intellectual property is BMW Ibérica." I understand that this documentation will have to be formally requested from BMW Ibérica (or judicially if necessary), and that the refusal to give it is another element in our favor.

I could see that this brake-by-wire system created some recalls on vehicles between 2022 and 2024 (it seems not on the G80 though).

I have a 22-month toddler so I don't feel very safe driving the car around.

Any ideas? I will send a Certified Mail (or however is called) prepared by my lawyer to BMW asking for a definitive solution to the problem. Is there any way they will help me economically (buying the car at a higher price than normal and giving me a better-than-normal price for a new M3, or similar)?

Thanks!

Help with home cockpit setup

I’m building a new house and I am planning to take some space in a room to install my rigs (which are currently very basic). The components I have (or will have) are:

Driving rig (currently used for PS5 only but I would like to be able to use it on PC also):
- GT Omega Apex wheel stand (I can scrap it)
- Fanatec GT DD Pro wheel base
- Fanatec Clubsport Pedals V3
- Fanatec ClubSport Shifter SQ V 1.5

Flying rig (this is not mounted to anything, I just “install” the ones needed every time):
- WINCTRL 3X0 GLARESHIELD
- WINCTRL MCDU
- WINCTRL URSA MINOR 32 Throttle Metal / 32 PAC Metal
- WINCTRL 32 ECAM
- WINCTRL 32 AGP Metal
- WINCTRL 32 TCAS 1.0
- WINCTRL 32 RMP 1.0
- WINCTRL Orion 32 Rudder Pedals Metal.With Damper 1.0
- VKB Gladiator NXT EVO (when flying Airbus)
- WINCTRL 32 NWS Tiller (when available)
- WINCTRL Overhead (when available)
- WINCTRL Joystick Desk Mount2
- WINCTRL Throttle Desk Mount5
- Thrustmaster TCA Boeing Yoke (only when flying Boeing)
- Thrustmaster TCA Boeing Quadrant (only when flying Boeing)
- WINCTRL PFP 3N (only when flying Boeing)
- Honeycomb ALPHA FLIGHT CONTROLS (only when flying GA Planes)
- Honeycomb BRAVO THROTTLE QUADRANT (only when flying GA Planes)

I was thinking on having one single rig for both racing and flying but it is too complicated.

I know that having all the flying components installed in the same rig is very complicated so I would like to base it on Airbus and, if needed, be able to adjust something for Boeing or GA (Yoke, etc.).

How would you do it?

A combination of these things plus extras would be perfect:
- https://desktopcockpits.com/products/airbus-a320-mip-desktop-cockpit-extended-captain-with-glare-support-ready-made-for-flight-simulator?variant=57634979840345

Available space (for both driving and flying rigs) is 2.60x2.20x2.00m.

What would your setup(s) be?

This is a setup guide document I created using Claude's help:

Thanks in advance!

Can I get some kind of compensation?

I booked the following flights for some family members (two adults and one 6yo kid):

CEB-HKG-BCN
BCN-HKG-CEB

The first trip happened without any but, on the second one (their way back home), when boarding in Barcelona to Hong Kong, they were notified that the second leg (HKG-CEB) was cancelled for them amd they were assigned the route HKG-TPE-CEB, arriving to Cebu almost 9 hours later than expected. I tried to put them in the next HKG-CEB flight that next day but it was already full so we accepted the rerouting.

The reason of tge change was that Cathay wod not have time to manage the luggage from the first leg to the second one…

Is it something we can get a compensation for?
