Does all magic need a prerequisite?

Hi all!

New to the game and really liking it - maybe 6 hours in or so. I played the tutorial to get an idea of some of the mechanics first, I’ve just now sort of figured out the skill system (thanks to reddit scavenging).

I was contemplating doing magic/ hybrid and was wondering if all magic requires some form of consumable Item prerequisite or not?

Examples;

  1. in tutorial you needed a fire stone to create an area on the ground to create a fireball
  2. in starting town you can learn spell blade, but I noticed to put fire element on your weapon, you also need Warm Boon… which requires I guess a potion or something similar.

So I’m just wondering if all magic is like that or if I’ll be able to cast spells with needing to consume an item every time

Need your Mesmer Opinions

Hi all!

I just came back the game maybe a week or two ago, picked up Reaper but wanted to try going back to Mesmer!

I’m finding a lot of outdated information and just needed to find out what was truly still viable or not!

In a perfect world, I’d like to play Power Mesmer with GS (because- style ofc)- in both PvE and PvP 😅

I’ve played a bit with Mirage, which is fun - I tried Virtuoso but got deleted quickly in Arena (but that was probably skill issue on my part) and haven’t gotten to try Chrono yet. It seems like Chrono is the most difficult to play from what I’ve been finding.

I’m wanting to know thoughts on the current standing for DPS Mesmer; Mirage / Virtuoso / Chrono

Honest opinions on if any of them are worth the effort and if one stands above others. I’d love to be able to keep using GS as mentioned, but if a Condi Mesmer significantly outclasses Power/GS please let me know!

** I’ve been trying different builds from snow crows and metabattle +mixing matching stuff… but I’m also not sure how many builds are posted just so there is a build… regardless if it’s actually good compared to other classes 😔

Any Mesmer specs for PvE+PvP?

Hi all!

I’ve been playing Reaper for last few days since I got back into the game- working through expansions while doing a lot of arena PvP (will do WvW soon I think)

I used to play Mesmer years ago though and watching people in Arena play it kind of has me interested in leveling one instead. T
- I always thought Mesmer in GW2 was one of the most unique and cool classes,

Things have changed sooo much though from when I first played (before even first expansion) and I’m not sure where to start 😅. I’ve tried combing Reddit but seems like some stuff is out of date.. for example
I saw posts that Mirage is 💩 and then another saying S Tier.

So Question is: Which of the Mesmer Elite classes is good at both PvP and solo/group PvE (if any). I’m also open to blunt honesty of none and I’ll stick with reaper (as I know it’s a PvE/PvP 👑)

Thoughts on FFXI?

I’m looking for opinions from anyone that’s played recently! I saw an article saying there is a bunch of “new” players, I had forgotten about this and didn’t realize it was still running. I’ve seen and responded a few times on the sub but I realized I never see this iteration recommended lol.

Any insight to if there are new players, how it feels or if I will be solo etc!

Background:
So I’ve been constantly looking for another MMO to play, I started with EQ2, SWG,WoW and ironically FFXI when I was a kid. I remember loving it when I was a
kid especially since I played it on console.

Since being a kid I’ve probably played 20 more + MMOs, including FFXIV- ESO - GW2 - NW etc… I tried last night to get back into FFXIV but turned it back off. Honestly probably only have Chrono Odyssey once it comes out 😅.

It’s hard to find a game that still gives challenges, that you can’t max level in a day…

TLDR: I’m just not sure if FFXI still holds test of time or if it’s worth trying to get into and if it still has newer players joining or not.

Local Art locations- Visiting end of May

Hi all- I’m going to be in San Diego from May 24th to May 30th and was hoping to buy some local art while I’m there.

I really like pop/cartoonish/street art for the most part and wanted to see if there are recommendations are places to visit! It doesn’t have to be that style specifically, as I really just try to collect something anytime I travel but those are definitely closest to what I like/ especially original canvas.

Thanks for any tips or recommendations 🙏🫡

Lock Target/ Tab?

I notice in Hotkeys it says “lock target” is Tab but that doesn’t seem to work for me. I’m playing mage and , although not often, I sometimes hit some random guy in the back when moving around. Being able to
Lock a target in mob dense areas would help me out.

Is this working for anyone else or any tips for it?

Dumb question but I tried healing two people I wasn’t grouped with and doesn’t look like it did anything.

I know some games you can only heal your party? Is that the case in this game too

Thanks!

I was under the impression that it had great axe, but not GS… but I heard differently… which definitely influences if I play Warrior 😂

Can anyone confirm if there is GreatSword in the game?

Hey all- for those who have been playing, I was hoping for insight on Cleric for two things;

  1. does it hold up Solo? I always roll healer if it can solo well (ie Albion, ESO, AoC, EQ etc) I saw a Smite ability and I know it will most likely be slower than other classes, but sometimes healers are still burst heavy so figured I’d ask!

  2. can any class use any weapon? I see on Steam page they have a hammer and a shield with the Cleric. But can it use sword or staff for example?

Any other general info you’d like to add is also welcome! I was between Cleric or Mage
