Toddler insists on wearing a hoodie even in warm weather and resists taking it off

My toddler has gotten very attached to wearing a hoodie with the hood up, along with pants, regardless of the weather.

Even when it’s warm outside, he refuses to take it off. If I or a teacher try to remove it, he usually resists and gets upset. Once he’s outside playing, he’ll run around happily for a long time without seeming bothered, even if he’s clearly getting warm.

I’m trying to figure out how to handle this. On one hand, I don’t want to turn clothing into a daily power struggle. On the other hand, I also want to make sure he’s comfortable and not overheating.

Has anyone dealt with a toddler who strongly insists on certain clothing and resists changes? What approaches actually worked?

  • Archived catalogs, advertisements, or Wayback Machine pages that show it

Rules for center-embedded sentences:

  1. Must use true center embedding only No chaining with “and”, no lists, no coordination
  2. Structure must be nested Each clause goes inside another clause, not side-by-side
  3. Each clause must be grammatically complete Subject, verb, and correct agreement required
  4. No shortcuts Don’t remove verbs or collapse clauses just to extend length
  5. Embedding must be recursive Every new clause must sit inside the previous one
  6. Meaning can be strange, but grammar must stay consistent
  7. Punctuation cannot fake structure Commas or formatting can’t replace real embedding
  8. Optional: count levels of embedding if comparing sentences

At a place like Great Wolf Lodge Baltimore, I’ve seen kids show up fully dressed in clothes that clearly aren’t meant for water slides. Some refuse to take them off even after getting soaked.

I understand wanting comfort or routine, but at what point do you step in for safety and practicality?
