Why are clean Pakistani-style kurtas so hard to find in India?

Every time I’m looking for one, it feels like the choices are the same: oversized embroidery, shiny fabric, loud patterns, or a fit that looks boxy instead of tailored.

The thing I admire about Pakistani menswear is that it doesn’t rely on being flashy. A well-cut silhouette, premium fabric, clean collar, concealed placket, subtle details, and proper tailoring do most of the work. It looks elegant without trying too hard.

That style seems surprisingly difficult to find here, especially if you want something modern for a nikah, Eid, or a formal event.

That’s actually why I started building Kiswah. I’ve been experimenting with premium, minimalist Pakistani-inspired kurtas, shalwar qameez, and waistcoats because I couldn’t find the kind of designs I wanted to wear myself.

Am I the only one who feels this way, or is there actually a demand for cleaner, more understated ethnic wear?

Why are clean Pakistani-inspired kurtas Pajama so hard to find in India?

Everything is either overloaded with embroidery or doesn't fit properly.

I've been building a small label called Kiswah Fabrics focusing on premium, sleek, modern Pakistani-inspired kurtas, shalwar qameez, and waistcoats with custom tailoring instead of flashy designs.

Am I designing for a niche, or do more people actually prefer this aesthetic?

Anyone else feel like finding a decent kurta tailor in Aligarh is weirdly difficult?

Most ready-made kurtas either fit badly, have odd proportions, or use fabrics that look good in photos but not in person.

I’ve been working on a small menswear project called Kiswah fabrics and recently started experimenting with custom-made kurtas, shalwar qameez, and waistcoats. Been focusing a lot on details that are usually ignored in local stitching—concealed plackets, cleaner collars, better sleeve proportions, custom measurements, etc.

A few friends ended up wearing them at nikahs and weddings, and the feedback was honestly much better than I expected.

Curious to know: what annoys you the most about buying kurtas for weddings and formal events?

Bad fitting?
Cheap fabric?
Overly flashy designs?
Tailors not following the reference picture?

Would love to hear what fellow Aligarh folks think.
