shawl that keeps you cool and won't break my bank

I have a cheap shawl from Amazon which is nice when I need to wear a dress in the winter and want additional warmth. But this thing is made out of polyester and definitely not for the summer -- I sweat like CRAZY whenever I wear it to cover my arms to go to Mass and the church doesn't have AC. I'd assume linen ones would not make me as overheated, but do you have any specific recs?

Beading placement on wedding dress

I got this beautiful dress for my religious wedding ceremony but the more I think about the beading down the back the more I’m worried it might be a bit inappropriate? It goes down pretty low!

The dress is high neck and long sleeves and I’m getting lining added behind the mesh beadwork you see on the back so it won’t be see through at all. It’s also a little tight on me so will have it let out slightly but it will still be this general silhouette. But I’m wondering should I also get the beading altered so that it ends higher up, like in photos 2 or 3? Or would just putting the lining behind be enough? I’m just worried there’s literally beading on my bum!

Looking for modest swimwear that can be worn over a bikini

Hi! I'm having trouble finding modest swimwear. The tricky part is that I'm looking for something that doesn't have a built-in bra. Those usually don't fit me well, so I'd rather wear a regular bikini top underneath.

It’s important to me that my cleavage, stomach, back, and butt are covered. A burkini, on the other hand, would be a bit too much coverage for me. Ideally, it shouldn’t be longer than my knees and elbows (a little shorter would be okay). I live in Western Europe, so it should be available there.

types of breathable clothing for summer ?

hello ! i started dressing more modestly around winter , and it's honestly so much fun i love styling my outfits ! i am though struggling a bit to dress more modestly with the heat.

i can bear pants or skirt, but it's more about the tops, i don't really mind showing my arms but i still want to try ! i really love layering so much, but the more layers the more warmth . .

what kind of clothes do you usually wear for the tops in the summer ?

Headcovering suggestions

I usually like to wear lace veils I find them most comfortable and don't slide off my hair. I also like the way they look. However I have a pretty white dress I would like to wear, its very edwardian looking and I'm not sure what type of veil to wear- white is bridal, black is too stark. I've been looking for a good yellow but haven't found one.

It is going to be very hot so I don't want a heavy scarf that will make me feel faint. Any suggestions?

Anyone else do a complete 180 from how they used to dress? What's your story?

I used to not value modesty at all with what I wore, for years and years. Now I'm very covered and can't imagine that not being the case. I bought new clothes but also try to modify what I already have to be wearable modestly as much as possible.

Did anyone else choose to dress modestly after dressing more revealingly, rather than having been raised dressing modestly your whole life? If so, why? What's your story and why do you value it now?

Ways to cover my neck without using a scarf or turtle neck?

So I want to cover my neck, and ideally I’d like to wear a Hijab style headscarf, however I’m still on the fence about that style specifically since I live in Florida. It’s a massive red state, my mom is concerned for my safety.

I’d still like to cover my neck tho, and I’m not sure how to do that

It’s too hot here for turtlenecks, and I experimented putting my headscarf around my neck, and I got two words.

SENSORY. NIGHTMARE.

It was so itchy! Too tight around the neck, I HATED IT! The material also just wasn’t it, maybe if it was something softer that would’ve worked better, but Idk

Looking for modest plus size IG accounts to follow

Does anyone know of any instagram accounts that focus on plus size modest fashion? I’m a US 26 in bottoms and a US 2x/3x in tops, so I find a lot of midsize accounts but I would really like to find girls similar to my size.

I have Culture Day coming up and want to wear an abaya but I’m not Arab.

Basically, there is a Culture Day where we can wear anything we want as long as it represents our culture, and I am Muslim and from Afghanistan.

I want to wear an abaya to represent my Islamic faith, but I’m worried it might be seen as disrespectful since abayas are often associated with countries like Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. I’m mostly anxious about getting asked lots of questions about what I’m representing, especially because I feel unsure whether it clearly represents Afghan culture. I don’t want to wear traditional Afghan clothing because I honestly don’t like it and I don’t have any. During the day, I may also wear fake nails.

I would really appreciate genuine advice on what I should wear and whether the abaya is appropriate. I‘ll also be open to any better suggestions.

Culture Day: 3/7/26 —PLEASE REPLY BEFORE THEN!

Do you feel like the concepts of “not modest enough” and “you’re too modest” are meant to control women?

So I personally choose to dress modestly entirely for my own personal comfort.

I do not believe it makes me morally superior, I do not believe that modesty or immodesty are moral or immoral. They’re just neutral, and that people should dress in what makes them comfortable.

So, with that being said, I am a practicing pagan, and I have been shadow veiling for the past couple years to protect my energy with bandanas, but tbh bandanas just don’t do it for me. It doesn’t give me the amount of modesty that I’d like.

Basically where I’m going with this is I want to wear a hijab style head scarf, I like the added layer of modesty over the chest, and I think it’s pretty

However, my family won’t be supportive of my decision. They are southern Baptist Christian, and southern Baptists have basically made this little box. Within the box, you are to dress a very certain way. Your skirts have to be a certain length, covering the head is a no go, there are all of these stupid rules. That is how I was raised.

If you dare, or have the audacity to step outside the box, you are somehow in the wrong (I’m being sarcastic about the audacity bit, but you get my point)

I’m not gonna go into details on my family, you can go check some of my previous posts if you like

So anyway, I was talking with my friend about this, and she wasn’t surprised. She was like “well yeah, of course. Because it’s about control”

Then she said that some men have this mindset of “oh, I want to be able to be attracted to you, but I don’t wanna feel guilty about it if you dress too provocatively” and someone covering up more takes that power away from them, so they don’t like it.

Tbh I hate the idea of letting anybody control me or my decisions, Lady Morrigan encourages me to step in my own power, and make my own decisions based on what I want to do. That’s just sometimes difficult for me.

So I’m planning on memorizing 1 Corinthians 11 for when I inevitably receive pushback, but I wanted to get some insight from women on this. How do you guys feel about this?

I’m also curious about what men think of this, though, which is why I didn’t flair it no man’s land

It’s not even just me either, and this issue isn’t exclusive to my family. More and more Christian women started veiling for religious purposes, it’s making a comeback, and some Christian women are even buying abayas and head scarves from Muslim owned businesses.

I have seen this online, and I fully supported as that is their decision and their prerogative, but comments from other Christians are just unnecessarily mean and judgmental.

I even asked other Christians about it online because it baffles me, it’s not even biblical that someone can dress “too modestly”

The answer that I got was basically the negative Christians make these immediate judgments, and they see somebody wearing a head covering, and basically get this idea that wearing a head covering immediately give somebody a superiority complex, that it’s screaming “I’m holier than you” which is ridiculous, and they shouldn’t be making those assumptions.

What states are safe to wear a Hijab styled headscarf? (TW: talk of guns; Islamophobia)

So update to my previous posts, but since Lady Morrigan encourages me to wear what I want despite judgement, I decided to take the advice I received and wear Pagan jewelry and crystals to decrease the chances of being assumed Muslim, and also memorize 1 Corinthians 11 for when I receive pushback from my family about it

Well, my mom was concerned about my safety. I was wrong, I thought that she didn’t want me getting assumed Muslim because I would receive judgment from strangers and family, but she clarified that, since we live in Florida, and open carry stare, somebody might literally shoot me dead if I get assumed Muslim…

I didn’t realize it was that bad here, because I have seen Muslims in my town, I thought I would just receive some mean books and judgment at worst, which is why I was going to wear Tiger’s Eye, to protect myself from the evil eye, but apparently homicidal maniacs will literally kill me because of Islamophobia, and no amount of jewelry, or Crystals is going to stop that from a distance.

We’re planning to move within the next year, and I want to know what states are safe to move to. I’d prefer an area where there are more Muslims, so that way it will be more socially acceptable to wear a head covering

Until I can move tho, I might have to stick with shadow veiling for now 😔

Extreme modest dressing as a response to being sexualised?

A few months ago, I was severely sexualised by two of my former male friends. One of them would touch me uncomfortably, and they both said some vile things about my body. I put up with it for too long, but the only reason I finally snapped was because one of them assaulted someone ELSE (I’m deeply ashamed of that). since then, I’ve been hyper focused on dressing so that nobody can see my body or even the shape of it. Everything from my collarbone to my ankle has to be covered now. Is this a trauma response anyone else has experienced?

What’s the best way to cover the eyes? Is covering the hands practical?

Salaam Alaikum. I am a revert, recently I’ve started to wear niqab. I see pictures of sisters who cover their eyes and hands also, and I think this is really elegant and beautiful. What’s the best way to achieve this? I’ve thought about sewing a thinner/more transparent fabric between the gap in the niqab, does this provide good eyesight?

I understand that this is optional and only hijab is Fardh, but I think that I would aspire to take this extra step of modesty for my own sake and most importantly for my connection to Allah.

Also, with gloves I worry that this would make it impractical to use a phone or perform fine motor tasks like opening a bottle of water. Are there gloves designed to preserve as much utility as possible? Please let me know, thank you all!

I want to wear a Hijab style headscarf, but Idk how to handle my judgemental family (TW: modestly policing)

So I was raised Baptist Christian, particularly southern Baptist Christian.

So basically I was raised to wear a certain amount of clothing, because too provocative is seen as bad, but covering up too much is also seen as bad. Illogical, I know, it doesn’t make any sense.

So I will be honest, I don’t veil for secular reasons. I dress modest for secular reasons, but veiling is entirely spiritual.

See, I’m a practicing Pagan, so I cover my head to protect my energy. But I cover my body for personal comfort.

Anyway, back to the point, for the past couple years I’ve been shadow veiling, kinda veiling subtly in secret. Just wearing bandanas, but… I want to veil more modestly for comfort.

Christian and Catholic veiling isn’t modest enough for me, yk? I specifically want to do the Hijab style because I think it’s pretty, and I like the added modesty of the chest and neck coverage.

But my family wouldn’t accept it, my grandma is already asking why I wear a bandana all the time, my mom has literally said “you’re not gonna be one of those weirdos who wear long sleeves all the time, are you?” And I don’t even know what my dad would say.

I’m getting more confident in my decision to wear a headscarf, because frankly, life is too short to not wear what I want, but I still feel like I can’t fully explain myself

Can I have some help finding modest purple clothing?

I swear, I can never find anything in purple especially casual wear, dresses, pants, or shirts ever. I don't have a special reason I just love purple especially light lilac shades, and I rarely ever see it. I don't care about the tightness I kind of prefer it tighter. I just don't like to show skin because I burn badly, very easily. I also don't like the way my arms look anyway so having them covered has always been my preference.

Looking for modest bridesmaid dresses

This has been the most painstakingly difficult task of my entire wedding. The color is brown and the ceremony is at a Catholic Church so shoulders must be covered. Both of these things eliminate 90% of the bridesmaid dresses I’ve seen. I also prefer no slit on the leg. I’ve heard the suggestion of getting a strapless/short sleeved dress and adding a shawl but I really don’t like how that looks. I’d rather just have them wear a modest dress. I have 3 bridesmaids and a junior bridesmaid who is 10. I had my sister (MOH) order one long sleeved dress I liked (picture attached) but after I had her try it on she said she was sweaty and restricted (can’t dance). My wedding will be in October in Wisconsin so weather will likely be chilly but both the ceremony and reception will be indoors and with dancing and drinking I’ve changed my mind on a restrictive long sleeve and just want a modest short sleeve. I’ve looked at Azazie and BirdyGrey extensively and haven’t found one that has sleeves and no slit. I like sunfere (where I got the long sleeved dress) but was hoping I could get some other recommendations for modest websites/retailers. Open to higher end. Would also appreciate advice for the junior bridesmaid attire.

Recommendations during high heat

Hi, I’m not sure if this is the best place to ask but figure it’s worth a try. I am incredibly sun sensitive to the point of getting boils and blisters after 10-15 mins of sun exposure regardless of sunscreen. Obviously, this is not only deeply painful, but increases my long term risk of skin cancer.

I use a sun parasol to provide shade, but there’s many situations where I can’t carry one with me, and even then it doesn’t block strong light reflections and it doesn’t protect my legs. My skin is only getting worse so I’m at the point where I need to start making sure I cover my arms and legs all year round, including summer. Normally in summer I’d just wear a short sleeve shirt, but now that doesn’t provide enough protection. I’ve been trying to add a cardigan, but I get SO hot in the warmer weather (it’s about 32C/89°F where I’m living). I figure if anyone has ideas for keeping my skin covered throughout even the hot months, it would be this community.

So with much much appreciation, does anyone have any suggestions on what type of clothing I can look into to cover my skin without causing me to overheat? Anything helps, really. I appreciate it 🫶

(Ps Swimwear tips would also be appreciated, as right now I only have a bikini from two summers ago that I know will not provide any help in my current condition.)

Summer wear?

I want to ask all my lovely ladies what are we wearing in this summer heat to avoid breaking in the private areas and just developing body acne? I shower like twice a day and wash the private areas with unscented antibacterial soap. I dress modestly like no shorts, skirts, or short dresses. I mainly wear jeans, yoga pants, or sweatpants. Please help.
