Question for Black hijabis
Peace be upon you all, I have a question as someone who is "culturally" Muslim but not really religious.
My dear Black friend is a hijabi and she was complaining to me that she is struggling with natural haircare. She does twists and cornrows and buns and ponytails, but is trying to avoid breakage caused by tension especially at her edges. I suggested that she stop trying to "flatten" or smooth the top of her head in hijab because that seems only natural for women with straight hair. E.g. wearing a west african gele or duku, an african american headwrap, or a south african doek, so she can wear wash and gos without manipulating her hair. Adding photos to show what I mean. However, she told me she's afraid it will be labeled as "a camel hump" based on a certain hadith and called haram.
I was a bit confused This seems kind of unfair to me since it's her actual natural hair, not some updo done to say "look at my hair everyone". Is this a view that a lot of Black Muslim women hold, or mostly her?
