Bad dreams are torturing me!

Hi,

I am trying my hardest to beat depression and anxiety through mindfulness and meditation and it seems to be working. I've always been an incredibly negative and cynical person (and I'm usually correct in my negative assumptions.... or so it seems which is a bias that keeps me trapped in the cycle.) But anyway, I'm seeing things more clearly now and much happier but one thing persists: bad dreams. It's like all the negativity and horror and anxiety I'm no longer experiencing during the day comes out at night. I wake up sweating and heart pounding after dreaming of bereavement, losing my job, everything going wrong etc. Has anyone else experienced this? It's not even nightmares, just literal mental torture. I get up extremely unhappy and have to practice gratefulness and mindfulness constantly in order to feel normal and connected again. Why is my brain doing this to me??

Day 1 - how will I get through this!?

I've decided not to let porn run my life anymore. Its day 1, I've got a day off and no-one to hang around with - that means 13 hours of temptation to fight off on my own. All I can do is try but I'm on my laptop and that little voice keeps telling me to put the porn on because that's the habit I follow now. It's gonna be a long day! I saw a post recently from someone who says life feels much better for abstaining for 45 days - that's amazing but I'm already tempted after being out of bed for just one hour!

What controversies or actions by the band annoyed you?

The thing I love about Manics is how they make you think. But back in the day, they used to get their points across with arrogant declarations and actions. Did anyone here get annoyed by these things? I have mates who call them 'pretentious' which I find difficult to refute tbh, because of their perceived way of intellectually looking down on others. But it never stopped me listening to them!

FTB looking and fed up with whole process

I have been looking for a house for nearly 2 years now and just can't find anything I like. I have recently had to drop out of one because the survey was so bad. I jumped in without thinking about it too much and it has cost me dearly. I am 47 and feel like time is running out to buy but I'm a broke musician too so best I'll get is a 1 or 2 bed terraced fixer-upper which depresses me no end. I currently live in a really nice 3 bed house where the rent is low because i'm a good tenant with a front and back garden and don't know what to do. Should I buy a pile of cheap junk I hate to get on the property ladder or wait and see if I can change my fortunes somehow?

Need help with my addiction

I just cannot quit the porn. I found giving up smoking easier.... seriously!!

I watch it all day long. I know its making me depressed and isolated and is the root cause of much of my unfulfillment in life but I just don't want to stop.

I don't know what to do. My life is a bit rubbish and I'm not where I'm supposed to be in life but I don't know how to fix it so I just forget my troubles by going back to adult chat rooms and role-playing all kinds of weird stuff for hours on end.

I need help but don't know where to start. What should I do?

I'm Broken

I had to pull out of a house I was going to buy recently. I still have to pay the solicitors fees which to me, feels like i'm putting £600 in the bin. Also my car keeps going wrong, I keep paying and it just goes wrong again the next day or week. Its currently standing at my workplace with no way to get it to a garage unless I pay hundreds to have it towed. I still have my tax bill to pay by the end of the month too and I have no one to talk to. I have tried therapists but they either put me on a 3 month waiting list or charge £50p/h plus which is ridiculous money to me and friends keep letting me down when we plan to meet. My dad has been diagnosed with alzheimers and my mum is struggling to cope and I can't do anything to help. The whole thing has taken its toll, I feel completely broken by this cruel non-stop society steamrolling over me and I can't take anymore

Buying a house later in life

I am nearly 48 and looking to buy my first house. I have a fairly decent deposit (nearly 30k) but am just worried that I earn about the same yearly so the best I'm going to get is a loan of around 110-120. This means I will probably need to prove that I am going to work beyond retirement age to pay it off. It also means I will only be able to afford a small terrace with no parking/garden, the thought of which makes me depressed beyond belief.
Am I overthinking it? The mortgage advisor told me I am running out of time which added to my anxiety. Should I wait and try to build up a bigger deposit or buy something that is 'OK' for now and get my foot on the housing market ladder?

Bad surveyor report - should I pull out?

I've just had the survey back on the house I offered on and it is very concerned about the damp in the place. Cellar beams have gone white (indicating damp), walls and floors have damp spots and apparently, the walls have been injected with a chemical damp proofing (which is a sign of clear damp management control and apparently, not effective.) The chimney needs repointing. They also say the walls have a hollow knock in places which means rendering is needed and if I redecorate, I could pull all the plaster off the walls. The list goes on and on and they value the house at £10,000 less than I offered for it. I'm a first time buyer with no clue what I'm doing so is all this normal?

Can't stop but want to

My addiction has got worse and worse over the last few years. I want to stop but don't know how and now its at the point where I don't go out chasing women anymore because thats hard work - sitting at home in front of the computer is so much easier. Porn is actually boring for me now and I've been going into adult chat rooms and saying horrible fantasies to other sad guys like me. How do I break the cycle? I really am struggling with it.

Feel like I've ruined my life (mid-life crisis)

Hi all,

I feel so mentally low and I just can't cope anymore. My parents are now elderly and watching them waste away is so incredibly depressing. I'm 47, with no wife/kids and few friends. I FINALLY got myself onto the housing market but I hate the house I've brought and am dreading moving in, I annoyed my boss the other week so now work isn't a nice place to be. I play in a band for a portion of my earning s and have just been told by an audiologist that I've wrecked my hearing and should give up now before I make it much worse (even though I wear hearing protection).
It just feels like nothing in my life is working for me, in fact, in feels like everything is against me. I'm incredibly unlucky as well, I just don't have nice things happen to me - every day I get up and its bad news through the letterbox - (giant tax bill), , on my phone and the news is completely terrifying as world leaders continue to trash the planet for no good reason.
I feel like the first half of my life was all fun and games and the second half is just a massive downhill hell-ride. Is this a mid-life crisis? The depression is really taking over and I don't have a clue where I'm going in this life anymore or who I'm supposed to be which means I can't fix it or make a plan.
sorry to vent but I'd love to hear if anyone else has felt similar?

Where do the Extractors learn all their super skills? Real world or dream world?

In the movie youve got Eames who clearly has infantry-man skills (guns, skiing, fighting) and Arthur who is a great anti-grav, bareknuckle fighter as well as a dynamite expert who can EXACTLY determine the time it takes for a lift to drop! (I mean, who except a physics expert would know that?!) Then there's Yusuf who comes across as a science nerd but is actually a genius stunt driver so my question is, where did these guys learn these skills?

Do they train on Army ranches at weekends, were they in the military themselves (the movie hints that it was the military that invented dream invasion) or is it that the way dreams work they can kind of manipulate their surroundings to make them better/faster/stronger than the projections hunting them? Or is it an oversight by Nolan that we are expected to believe they can just do all this stuff?

I'd be interested to know thoughts!

1st timer remorse/concerns

I've been through a lot of the posts on here and I am still unsure about whether to proceed with the house I've offered on... I viewed a load and honestly just wanted to get on to the housing ladder because I'm 47 and worried that lenders won't help me out beyond my retirement age as I don't earn a lot and don't have a great pension. I've had an offer accepted on a small terraced house in a nice area but have the dreaded remorse/fear that I've made a mistake. I always thought I'd end up married in a nice big house but instead I'm doing it alone and terrified with no idea what I've bought into. The parking situation is off road and first come/first served, the house seems quite small and I'm basically completely unsure if I'm doing the right thing for myself.
Has anyone else felt like this? What did you do?
