Modern cars have all gotten faster, what are some that are still too slow?

We all know that hp and torque numbers have only gone up on most cars, with there being tons of non-EV cars and SUVs with 300-500hp driving around. We also know that you don’t actually need all that power for daily driving, but what are some cars that are still dangerously slow?

Recently rented a 2.5L Outlander, non-hybrid, and actually felt unsafe merging into fast traffic. An NA 4 banger paired with a CVT in a car meant to haul 7 people was *not* the right choice IMO. It was just screaming and not going anywhere as cars behind me caught up quickly, I immediately learned I needed to be very patient when turning onto big roads. I couldn’t imagine how it would feel with all the seats full. Pretty much every newer car I’ve driven has felt significantly quicker.

Edit: lol in classic reddit fashion, people absolutely *yearn* to tell you you’re wrong. “Oh if you can’t drive a slow car you’re the problem”. It’s not about me lol, I’ll be fine in any car. It’s about the millions of terrible drivers on the road in the US particularly, but everywhere else as well. Also, this is just for discussion, nowhere did I say that we need to make all cars faster.

It’s too easy to get a license and get behind the wheel of a fast car here, that’s why my examples pertain mostly to the US. We have tons of very inexperienced drivers behind the wheels of cars capable of decimating several families at once. We also have tons of people who are terrified to press the gas more than 50%, a slow car, at low throttle could quickly become dangerous. Combine that with some moron merging all the way into the left lane at 10% throttle and that’s how you end up with rear end collisions that kill people. Not saying cars are too slow, but some are too slow for the people that drive them. If you have a low hp car, you need to know to either keep right or step on it. Most people do neither.

2012 Odyssey Battery Sensor issue, wiring?

Hey guys, working on a 2012 Odyssey (130k well-maintained miles) with a battery sensor light/ code. Changed the sensor to no avail, tried 2 in case one was defective but the result is the same. Can this be anything other than a wiring or ECU issue? No obvious problems with battery/ alternator, battery cranks strong and everything shows proper voltages. Car acts 100% normal besides the warning on the dash. Figured I’d ask if this is a known thing before I go on a deep dive testing wires.

Buyer paid deposit on vehicle, now wants to cancel and I’m forced to refund

I sold a vehicle on ebay with a $500 deposit. I uploaded all the required documents then messaged the buyer how they would like to proceed with the sale. They said they never bought the car?? Now a day later they are requesting to cancel, and my only option is to cancel and refund, or decline. What can I do here? Do I have to refund the buyer? I have already spent time and money getting this vehicle detailed and prepped for shipping, I do believe I should keep some of the deposit for my wasted time and effort. If I decline, can they still open a case and get the money back?

Edit: Everyone is caught up on me getting the car cleaned. That’s not the main point, Ive already factored that as a loss from my net earnings when I sell this car. At the end of the day, by paying the deposit, the buyer prevented anyone else from buying the car, I wasted time uploading the documents requested by ebay to complete the sale (including signing and filling out the title), *and* I was given false hope of a sale. These alone should not be escapable for the buyer without any type of recourse. Imagine you buy a car off marketplace, leave a deposit, then change your mind and request it back. The seller will tell you to kick rocks, and has every right to legally. What’s to stop people from buying out competing cars to keep them off the market while they sell theirs? People do it with non-ebay motors items as well.

E70 X5 from auction, fob issues

So I got this 2013 X5 sight unseen from an auction and it came with this aftermarket key fob. It starts the car when inserted into the slot, but does not lock/ unlock, nor do any comfort access options work, and yes, it definitely has comfort access.

The back of the key has the battery door like the usual comfort access keys.

Is my only option here a new fob? The rest of the car is pristine and the price was great so I don’t mind if I have to get a new fob, just curious if an independent key guy could reprogram it to work properly, or if there is any re-learn procedure I can do.

Who here has the oldest working battery?

06/17 battery in my 06 Saab still cranks like new. Bought the car in 2023 and figured it would need a battery eventually but it’s not even close. Longest I’ve ever seen a non-oem battery go is only about 7 years. Craziest part is the car regularly goes 2-3 weeks at a time without being started. Anyone have an older battery than me?
