60 years of the Authentic!

The Authentic, or originally “Style 44” is my all time favorite Vans shoe. I was born in the early 80s and I’ve worn Vans off and on since the 80s. I hadn’t worn them in awhile and I currently own about 30 pairs of Vans and started to really miss them. So I went to the Vans website and saw Travis Barker rocking these really cool classic-inspired Authentics and I had to go with them. Reminds me of the Tony Alva Era but the colors are swapped. It’s at least similar to that. I love a classic and regardless of what anyone thinks, I also like Travis Barker and I love Blink-182. So I bought these and I’m gonna wear the hell out of them. I currently own 136 pairs of shoes so I can’t always rock Vans and don’t want to always but I’ll keep these in the rotation for sure. Vans never get old or unpopular in my opinion. Timeless shoes. Who cares what’s trending or what isn’t. I just love Vans.

One week with the Redmi Watch 5 Lite.

Walked over 50 miles and burned over 9,200 calories with 506 move minutes for the week. It’s still early so I’ll get Sunday’s steps up today too. My average is around 15k steps per day. So honestly, after one week, I love this watch more than my Apple Watch. The battery life is incredible and all the features work. Another thing is, the more the watch gets to know me and knows my averages and usual sleep times etc the more accurate it is becoming. Steps, calories and heart rate have always been perfect but fall asleep and wake up times were always perfect too but sleep stages were off the first couple days and now way more accurate. I love this watch. It seriously does 97 percent of what my Apple Watch does. So glad I didn’t pick the Amazfit. This is my first Redmi product and I’m seriously liking it. Great quality. There are little glitches sometimes like if I take the watch off and put it back on after a shower my battery Percent will change by like 10 percent or the watch screen will change but those things fix themselves when I put the watch back on. Among other glitches but honestly very few. Less than even my AW. I’ll never go back to Apple Watch. I’ll keep this for a year or two and then buy like the Redmi Watch 7 or 8.

Watch 5 Lite Bands.

Anyone been successful at finding bands that have airholes in them for more breathability? I don’t want a cloth one like elastic or anything. I want a silicone one with airholes. Find the band that came with it uncomfortable. I’ll use it for a while of course but I’d like to get some better bands.

Okay, okay. 👍

I love my first Redmi Watch. About 4 days with it now. I bought the Redmi Watch 5 Lite and couldn't be happier. There's a couple things I've noticed though. Move minutes are sooo hard to get in a day sometimes. Even if my heart beat is waaaaayy high it's not even tracking them. It will track a bunch of move minutes for a long while and then I'll be literally turbo walking and not see my move minutes change for a very long time. Even when I'm constantly updating the app. I really like that though. It's much harder to get my cardio in than on my Apple Watch. On my Apple Watch walking at any pace gets you exercise minutes. On my Redmi you gotta get that pulse up and really be doing a workout to get those move minutes. I really like that but dang it's hard sometimes to reach my goals lol.
Also, fall asleep and wake up times are extremely accurate but deep sleep or probably any stages of sleep are not. I'm not getting 2.5 hours of deep sleep in a 7 hour night. Lol. In 3 years of owning an Apple Watch and 5 years of Fitbit before that I never got over like 1 hour or 1.5 hours of deep sleep. The sleep stages are the only weakness I have experienced with this watch. Never going back to Apple Watch. My next one in a year or so will be the Redmi Watch
6.

Bupropion and legs.

I have taken 150mg XL daily for 6 years. So lately I’ve been feeling like too much dopamine has been effecting my life in various ways and I’ve posted about that here before. In the past month I’ve also been feeling this really weird achy feeling in my legs that makes them feel like I need to stretch them uncontrollably. It doesn’t really feel like Restless Leg Syndrome to me like I had years ago because it’s way more intense to me. It’s weird. Honestly I’ve been sober for years but when I used to do stimulants my legs felt the exact same way. It can happen any time of day but it’s this uncontrollable need to stretch my legs because they are so achy. It gets better when I do like calf raises while standing still or walking really fast. Very similar to my stimulant days. So I went to the doctor today and the first thing he said was it’s rarer but he believes it’s RLS augmentation from the bupropion because my body is becoming sensitive to the dopamine. Idk. 🤷‍♂️ I didn’t even know what augmentation was. Now I do. Going to try to get off bupropion soon after 6 years to see if it gets better.

First Redmi Watch! The Redmi Watch 5 Lite.

Just got it this morning. Put a screen protector and case on it immediately. I was absolutely sick of charging my Apple Watch everyday. So far steps and heart rate are entirely accurate. This watch does 97 percent of what my Apple Watch does for a fraction of the price. I read that Xiaomi smart watches can be iffy with sleep tracking. At least at detecting and tracking sleep stages. Well, I’ll test it out for a week or two. If it’s bad I’ll use my AW for just the sleep tracking. I’m never going back to AW for daily over all fitness use though. This Redmi is excellent for the price. I picked it up for 49 dollars. It has an amoled screen, GPS, Bluetooth calling, emergency SOS. Plus potential 18 day battery life!!!!!! Among other cool features. Couldn’t be happier so far. My AW cost 300 and can’t even stay on for longer than a day. I’m done with Apple Watch.

Been thinking of switching from Apple Watch.

For those of you using Mi Band 10 for awhile, do you think I should just buy the mi band 10 now or wait for the 11 to drop. Will the improvements on the 11 just be small upgrades over 10 or substantial? Just wondering what mi band users have to say. Thanks. 🙏

Anyone else feel this?

So I started taking gabapentin about a month ago for sleep. I do have GAD as well. I also have a permanent leg injury with extremely mild chronic venous insufficiency. For my sleep and anxiety, gabapentin has been amazing!!! I’m sleeping better than I ever have. My deep sleep is even improving. The only side effects I have are I’m a little groggy in the morning but it wears off in an hour, I pee a lot, way more than I used to, and this is why I’m posting: weird itchy legs by my ankles. This weird feeling I can’t describe it. Like the hairs on my legs are blowing in the wind. Hahaha. It’s so bad I thought I had bugs or some crap. 😆 I don’t. The leg feeling is so weird. Like a ghost is rubbing their fingers through my leg hairs. Lol. I was freaking out. I really thought I had like fleas or something that I couldn’t see. I don’t haha. Anyone else have weird leg sensations. It’s like itchy legs. It gets better with lotion and the occasional antihistamine to block the sensation that gabapentin gives me but it’s still there. Never felt this before this medication. I have no cognitive decline, memory problems, or irritability etc. In fact this is the best medicine I’ve ever tried for sleep and it tremendously helps my anxiety and depression. Here’s some background info. I also take bupropion for the last 6 years but in the morning, and losartan for high blood pressure, and I take 200mg gabapentin at night for sleep. So that’s enough out of me. Am I the only one with strange leg sensations? I’m definitely going to continue this gabapentin. It’s helping me. Just don’t like the itchy legs feeling.

White Leather Converse today. Happy 4th of July!

Can’t go wrong with white leather Chucks on the 4th. I am a big fan of leather Converse and leather Vans. I have the Converse in black leather, as well as brown leather, and these white ones. Same with Vans Authentics and slip ons I have them in white leather as well as black leather. It just makes cleaning them so easy and they last longer than the canvas ones and look good with the aging from the leather. Have a great weekend everyone. Stay safe if you celebrate. 🎉

How long have y’all used NRT?

I quit smoking about 12 years ago and quit dip about 10 years ago, which I only used the dip for 2 years after quitting smoking, and I have switched between gum, lozenges, and patches ever since. Now I’m no longer ever going to use gum or lozenges because just like tobacco I have zero control over those. It’s not uncommon for me to chew like 40 pieces of gum in a day or like 30 lozenges. Plus only the gum and lozenges give me really bad sleep problems and my mouth and teeth were so jacked up. That being said if you are strong enough to use the gum or lozenges as directed they will completely work to stop smoking. I don’t think I am. I abuse them. Anyways, So I stopped those about a year ago. I never used one form of NRT regardless. I would use one for 3 to 6 months and then go to another one. So basically I switched smoking for NRT. For years. Then I came back to the patch now and for about 9 months I would put one patch on for about 4 to 6 hours, rip it off, and then put on another one and repeat. The fact of the matter is, in all reality, I’m not wanting a steady dose of nicotine. I’m wanting the hit of Nicotine when I need it and that’s why I was overusing even the patches. Now I finally have gotten down to one patch a day for the last 3 months but I haven’t tapered down yet. I’m still at 21mg. Finally ready to stop the NRT after about 12 years and I’m not BSing myself anymore. Going to taper down to step 2 tomorrow and be rid of this addiction soon. I’m sober from all other alcohol and drugs for many many years. I can finally get rid of this nicotine. How long have you all used NRT? Do you plan on using it long term? Honestly. Of course it’s better than smoking but can be just as addictive, at least in my case. I’m just curious is all.

Thinking of going back to Fitbit.

I left when I owned a charge 5 for Apple Watch. Honestly, I think steps are much more accurate on an Apple Watch and maybe sleep stages as well but the one thing I can’t stand is the charging it everyday. It’s becoming a real problem for me. I really miss going a week or longer on a single charge. Came back to the sub hoping the charge 6 would not massively over count steps but I see that hasn’t changed. 😂 My Fitbit charge 5 would be at my goal by 2pm doing really nothing at all. By the end of the day my Fitbit would be about 2,000 to 4,000 steps higher than my Apple Watch. The only way I fixed this was by raising my daily goal to 15 or 16k everyday. Still, I’m really missing that battery life on Fitbit and may come back soon. Been checking the deals on Amazon. There’s nothing wrong with my Apple Watch though and it still has a lot of battery health so I’m torn on whether it would be wasteful to buy a Fitbit too. Idk. Just miss Fitbit all around. The most important health tracking measures for me are my step count and sleep stages. I can adjust my daily step goals on Fitbit to be higher that’s not a problem.

Nike SB Heritage Vulc in Flax and Blue today.

Felt like rocking these today. I like them. The colorway is cool and I can pair it with a lot of stuff. Very comfortable actually but of course not the most comfortable Nike I own lol. It’s good enough though.

Nike LD-1000 in Campfire Orange and Sail.

Love these. Lately I’ve really been into 70s and 80s retro runners and other retro shoes from a few different brands. In fact, I really like these 70s retro runners from Nike. Really cool. There are a lot to choose from that they are putting out. They have cool history too. Love the campfire orange. I ordered these in a different colorway too and I also ordered some Pre-Montreal ‘17’s. I’ll get those next week.

Some thoughts on bupropion after 6 years of use.

Some things I’ve been noticing about bupropion use after 6 years and also a recovering addict for longer than that. This will be hard to put into words but I’m wondering if anyone else feels this way. There are some things that this drug does, that are EXTREMELY similar to methamphetamine. Maybe it’s the dopaminergic medicines that all do this. So this will get personal. Does anyone want to masturbate but then spends like 2 hours deciding what to masturbate to and has a really hard time making that decision before finally doing it? Like you waste an hour or two each time and you never quite find the right thing? That’s extremely, and I mean extremely similar to
methamphetamine. Also, the desire for sex is constant like many bupropion users share, but then you feel distracted during it and after your done with your partner you could go again and again after awhile. Also methamphetamine like. The other thing is my pleasure reward center in my brain being extremely screwed up. Like I don’t just want one cup of coffee, I want like 5 in a day, and I want to eat but I could eat forever (that one isn’t like meth lol). Also I crave like unhealthy foods and sweets. Idk. These meth-like effects were not there for me as much in the first few years as they are now after years and years of using it. The over-dopamine like effects are becoming more and more like a drug the more years I take this medicine. It’s like nothing is quite right and I want more and more of whatever I focus on. It’s strange. I think after years of this med I may try to get off of it and see how that goes for awhile. I’m just kind of sick of my dopamine being messed with. Idk. 🤷‍♂️ anyone else feel anything similar? EDIT: And don’t get me wrong, bupropion has significantly improved my life and balanced me out and has so many positives I can’t list them all. Maybe it’s just that it’s no longer what I need like I needed it before all these years I’ve taken it. It has been the best med I’ve taken for depression and anxiety. But I am getting tired of my dopamine being messed with. Idk. 🤷‍♂️ This is just my experience in this post yall. It could be different for everyone.

Reebok Human Rights Now! Club C.

The Human Rights Now! World Concert Tour in 1988 celebrated the UN’s 40th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Instead of being focused on fundraising it was focused on awareness. Reebok was the main sponsor of the world tour which featured Bruce Springsteen, Tracy Chapman and Peter Gabriel among other musicians. Reebok also created the Human Rights Award which awarded scholarships and grants up to 100,000 dollars to young grassroots activists who were making a big impact in human rights. In more modern times they have revived the program in association with Alabama State University and the ACLU to support a new generation of activism.

Maroon Adidas Samba XLG.

I had never tried the Samba XLG on. So this was a blind buy. I actually kind of like them. They are growing on me. Super comfortable for sure. Like a late 90s skate shoe Samba. 👍 Good stuff. They will be cool to rotate in the collection. I got them for a good price too.

Puma OG Super Liga.

Rocking the Puma OG Super Liga today. The Puma Palermo is my all time favorite shoe but the Super Liga actually shares that 1st place for me. The thing about this shoe for me is they are flat out indestructible. I have another pair that is like 10 years old and doesn’t look old at all. I don’t even keep shoes that long EXCEPT for the Super Liga. The leather breaks in perfectly and the soles are in excellent shape. They just go on forever and can be cleaned easily. This is a new pair. I buy this shoe on repeat. I have like 136 pairs of shoes now and around 40 pairs are Puma. This is a great shoe and actually really really comfortable.

Finally picked them up. The first ever Adidas to feature the trefoil logo. The SL ‘72 RS.

Released for the Munich Summer Olympics in 1972 originally. The SL means super light. Lol. The RS is just a reshaped sole more comfortable than the original.
