Prepping my first canvas

I know it’s a cheap canvas so I’m going back and forth with how much effort to put into the prep. I’ve got gesso on hand already, and I’m debating adding a coat to the back - I’ve got most of the fold wrinkles out with ironing & heavy books. I’m also debating if I want to invest in flow aid- from the posts here it’s clear I’ll need to add something but I’m not sure how flow aid compares with water.

Someone mentioned 320 grit for sanding the gesso, is there a consensus on that?

I’ve got some experience with painting and have decent brushes & brush cleaner, and I’m familiar with the the ‘push/pull the glob of paint to the edges’ method so I’m hoping I can get this to turn out reasonably well🤞

It's a huge room with a walk-in closet and its own private patio. Yes, it's a shared bath and shared laundry. It's also rent controlled and the landlord actually does repairs. I've been here 5 years and do not want to move!
