New Clarinet Player

Hey! I’m a first chair piccolo player for the advanced group, lead Jazz Alto 1 in the second group, and this year I’m playing clarinet for the first time in Symphonic Band.

I’m currently playing on a Selmer CL-300 with a Rovner Dark ligature, Vandoren Traditional 3.0 reeds, and a Vandoren CM0378 B40 Profile 88 mouthpiece.

I’m looking for some good books or methods to learn clarinet from. The only ones I really know about are Foundation for Superior Art and Performance and JBC. Are there any other books you’d recommend for someone who already has a lot of experience with other woodwinds but is new to clarinet?

I already have a pretty good foundation with reading music, rhythm, articulation, phrasing, and ensemble playing from piccolo and alto sax, but I know clarinet is pretty different and I don’t want to accidentally develop bad habits by treating it like a smaller saxophone.

I’d also appreciate any tips for starting clarinet, especially with embouchure, air support, tone, articulation, throat tones, the break, and getting comfortable with the different registers.

Any book recommendations, exercises, or just general advice would be awesome. Thanks!

The other two picc players own their own being these nice composite piccolos and almost always never in tune. I’m usually am in cold or inside. BUT HE WANTS ME GONE FOR USING HIS INSTRUMENT OLDER THEN MY PARENTS. sorry just wanted to let off steam. Im thinking just to quit marching and just do pep and concert flute.

I HATE THE H LIGS

I upgraded from the basic 2 screw ligature unto a H ligature and I absolutely hate it, about how much would I be able to sell it on reverb with the box. Also I was thinking to buy a Rovner Dark and as well a Rovner Light for the pieces I solo in. The setup is for Jazz band I’m. using 2.5 green reeds with a alto Jumbo Java A45.

sorry i just want to say i hate the H ligs

What the Value of this Card

I recently ordered this for my PC, but I couldn’t find the exact listing I bought it from. My copy includes a white Seager jersey and is numbered 7/9, if that matters. I was wondering about its value one similar card sold for $75, I paid $90 for mine, and I’ve seen another listed at $190.

Gear Upgrade

Hello I started from a random amazon cheap sax, with a no brand mouth piece, metalite m5, and size 3 and 3.5 Green reeds. It took me two years to prove to my family it not just to have, I upgraded to a Yamaha horn, Vandorean V16 A5+, and 2.5 Green and 3 Zz with a H ligature. I’m glad to make alto my second instrumen.
