Capitol gains taxes

What is the governments purpose for allowing a break in capitol gains after two years? It doesn’t make any sense other than as a way to control people’s actions (for what?) and to make money. Why should the govt care if people move sooner than two years?
People who do what we do should be incentivized, especially in areas where there is a massive housing shortage. But instead we are taxed and taxed and taxed. It doesn’t make any sense. The older I get the more I think our govt is playing monopoly with our lives. We don’t need a game, we need a solid, stable foundation. Not taxing the shit out of people seems like a good start. And then there’s the top three percent who somehow avoid taxes. It’s sick. And the interest rates. I’m pissed.

Are people still flipping in this market?

If so, where? How? Getting a home with anything left after renovations, paying for money and paying realtors seems almost impossible. Oregon here. The ones who are still doing it around here are in construction anyways.
I’m in a slow flip but otherwise for Oregon, I’ve given up.

Sending a cell phone via airplane from the US to Vietnam

Hi,

I have a friend whose son in Vietnam wants a new cell phone. We are in the US. My daughter is traveling to Vietnam soon and so she asked if my daughter would take it for her. I asked my daughte if she could and she said yes, then later admitted this feels like a hassle and she doesn't want to do it.

After relaying to my friend, she later called telling me her son is devastated. He says the cost of cell phones in Vietnam is astronomical and with added fees, it makes no sense to buy one there.

But I've just read a couple of posts that actually, the cost is not that bad. It looks just a little bit more than the US.

I'm uncomfortable pushing my daughter to do something she doesn't want to do just because my friend is pressuring me. But moreso, I'm uncomfortable with her carrying something that is not hers. Are there fees she will have to pay upon arriving in Vietnam with a new phone? Also, if the cost is nearly the same, why all the fuss? Just buy your own dang phone in Vietnam.

Friend called today again asking, pleading really. I came here to ask if the cell phone situation really is so dire, along with fees and such. Or if it's really not much more, in which case, I can comfortably tell her to let her son fend for himself. Thanks for your insights.

How do I meet friends in my 50's in Raleigh?

How do you make friends here in your 50's? Are people generally receptive to transplants from other states?

If my high school kid comes, how open are high school kids to new kids coming in?

Thanks!

I feel like I’m in the wrong town

Since we moved here with our kids six years ago, I’ve endured so much rejection. But mostly, I’m not interested in much here. I’ve tried the gyms, the yoga studios - places where I traditionally would have found community - but nope. Just people working out together. Haven’t been able to get a job. Hubby and I have very few friends and I notice many people here just don’t do much.
We moved here to be near my mom - but she has made no effort to have a relationship.
We move a lot so I try to reframe my experience and keep trying to make this work. But I’m so tired of trying and I’m starting to feel like my husband and kids don’t care about me cause I’ve clearly been struggling and they seem okay with me struggling as long as they are doing well. That’s ironic cause we left the last place cause hubby and daughter weren’t doing well. I was doing great in the other hand - running my own business that took so much effort. And then I left it. Since I’ve been here, I’ve felt rejected by my mother, rejected by employers, bored with the towns offerings. I’m ready to leave my family and this town cause it feels like I’ve been slowly dying here. Six years of slow death. I spend a lot of time in bed. I’m 53.
I did one of those charts that tells you where you’ll be happiest. Most of the places were far far away in a frigid town. There were no connections on my chart to where I’m at now. It said I’d fall in love in Texas. I did live in Texas with my husband and kids and I did feel a lot of love. It said in the southwest I would accomplish my goals - that is where I lived when I ran my own business. But otherwise - Italy and Toronto, Canada. And I think somewhere in Russia. Like…hmmm, maybe I should move to Russia? No, I’m kidding. But I’m feeling so disconnected, unsupported by this community. Lost..

House flippers wanting a partner?

Hi! I’m considering a move to Raleigh/ Durham or possibly a temp move anywhere that would support a house flipping career.
I’ve flipped a few homes and would consider joining a partner or helping on a team of flippers. I’m good at problem solving, design, reconfigurations, project management. I don’t do labor aside from some painting and yard work. Would love to join a team or start a team.

No gifts

I’ve been feeding my Hammy (Hamlet Big) for atleast a month. No gifts. I put a dime out to see if he’d take it cause I’ve heard they love shiny things. He didn’t.
I seem to have a neuro-divergent crow or something. What gives? Not my Hammy, apparently.
