October Wedding - Formal Attire

Do either of these work for a Saturday night wedding? It’s formal but not black tie. It’s in Lancaster PA. I purchased both dresses recently and spent more than I wanted to, but I absolutely can afford what I spent (and to be realistic, I think spending more than $40 on a single item of clothing is extravagant). I am also heavier than normal right now.

I don’t love either. I am concerned that the ruching on the first one may make me look pregnant in certain angles. The second one is super tight around the neck but I do like the attached fabric flaps in the back.

If I return them, then I need to either order something from Amazon or keep shopping and I dislike shopping.

Thanks in advance!

Confused by "soaking wet" hair

EDIT: Leaving it dripping wet means getting a ton of water all over my bathroom and the rest of the house, or else standing in the shower for hours while it air dries? I just got out of the shower and I combed it and squeezed the excess out but I didn't towel it off at all before applying curl cream, so I'll see if I get better results. I have to leave my house in approximately an hour and I don't diffuse (my hair never gets dry with a diffuser), so we'll see what happens. It was raining all day today so the humidity is at close to 100%, not sure what leaving the house with wet hair is going to result in!

I keep seeing everyone state that they apply products when their hair is soaking wet, but what does that mean?

When I am finished washing it or getting it wet, I use a wide tooth comb to brush out knots and then squeeze out as much excess water as possible.

Then I wrap it in a towel while I fix my face and get dressed before applying product.

Are people just leaving it dripping wet? It would seem like the product would drip out along with the water. And then doesn't your clothing get soaked as well? And how long does it take to dry? I air dry and even with the above system, my hair stays wet most of the day.

Routine: I use lacura moisture rich shampoo, dove intensive repair conditioner and then either ouidad curl creme or kristen ess air dry creme

Makeup Tutorials?

Hi all! I was never a big make-up wearer and after I left Corporate America 11 years ago, I just about stopped wearing makeup at all unless it was for a special occasion.

However, I am tired of always looking like I just rolled out of bed and would like to look a little more polished day-to-day.

I am 52F and I am not "artistic" at all (I do think applying makeup is an art!). I also do not have time / interest for a very complicated routine involving primers and fixers, etc.

I was just on vacation with my hubby and I felt like it looked like a child was playing with makeup when I tried to gussy myself up for evenings out.

Can anyone recommend some good, basic makeup tutorials? I promise to post before and after photos!

Is the Aquapark at Atlantis in Nassau worth it?

Going on a 4 nighter on the Getaway for a much needed break after a very, very stressful few months.

I've been to Nassau probably 20 times, so we were just going to stay on board the ship; I purchased a pass for the thermal suite and it's likely to be far less crowded while the ship is in port.

However, hubs was thinking about going to the water park at Atlantis.

It's surprisingly less expensive to book it through NCL than directly through Atlantis.

Has anyone been there and is it a worthwhile visit? Hubs likes the water slides and such but I do not and would only use the lazy river. If the water is too cold, I wouldn't even use the lazy river, just the loungers and such.

I'm doing the math and it's $405 for both of us to go to Atlantis, plus I already spent $400 on the thermal suite, so those two alone are already more than the cost of the cruise.

I checked and there are fewer, smaller ships in port that day we dock.

We cruise frequently so it's not our only chance to try the water park.

I appreciate any insights!

Eye Shadow Colors

Hi folks! I am admittedly not much of a make-up wearer, but recently, I had several glam events where I wanted to put in some more effort with my appearance.

Since I almost never wear makeup, I went to CVS and Walgreens to refresh my stock. I was really surprised to see that all of the eyeshadow colors were variations on nudes and browns in either matte or very heavy sparkle finishes.

I was looking mainly at E.L.F and Wet n Wild as they are cruelty free.

I thought maybe it was an inventory issue so I checked online and that's really all that was available.

How does one do a smoky eye with nudes / neutrals? Have manufacturers stopped making eye shadows in other shades? Are colors dated (I'm 52 and it's been at least 10 years since I've worn makeup regularly).

Thanks in advance for any shopping advice!

DEXA Bone Scan and Addressing Osteopenia

Hi all! Thanks to this sub, I knew to ask my PCP for a DEXA scan early! My mother has osteoporosis and just broke her hip, so my PCP authorized the scan.

I am 52 and in peri - I got my period 2 or 3 times in 2025 and so far, just once this year, in January.

Not currently on systemic estrogen; only using it vaginally for GSM.

I am white, very thin and I have low (~19% body fat).

In addition, I ran track in high school and had a D1 scholarship to run track in college. Because of the constant training and competitive pressure, I went years without a period in my late teens /early 20's.

I was on hormonal birth control for about 10 years between ages 25 and 35 (no ovulation and no period), but between ages 35 and 50, my period was quite regular.

I run and / or walk every day outside (and I live in a year round warm climate) and I lift heavy weights 2-3x per week.

I supplement with D3/K2 (although I only recently added that to my supplement stack), magnesium glycinate, marine collagen and creatine (all of which are helpful for bone health in various ways).

I am having blood work done next week and have added vitamin D immunoassay to the test panel.

I don't eat very much dairy but I do eat a lot of greens and beans.

The scan results show normal bone density of the lumbar spine but osteopenia of the left hip and femoral neck.

Questions for the folks with osteoporosis / osteopenia

- how are you addressing it?

-has anyone gone on systemic estrogen SOLELY for bone health?

I am open to adding systemic estrogen as I do not want to break a hip in the future (my mother never did HRT); however, I have been pretty fortunate that my only menopause issues are GSM and the vaginal estrogen is addressing that in a satisfactory manner.

▲ 11 r/Cruise

I live in South Florida, a short drive from both the port of Miami and Fort Lauderdale. I frequently cruise last minute. I am itching for a getaway next weekend and checked out 3 night cruises on Vacations to Go

3 nights in a balcony cabin, per person:
NCL Getaway - $474
MSC Seaside - $528
RC Wonder of the Seas - $735
RC Jewel of the Seas- $1,408

The Jewel was built in 2004!!! It's not even a new ship.

I am assuming that if they are selling cabins one week before sailing, it's because the cruise is not sold out, so why on earth is is so freaking expensive?? The Jewel has stops in Nassau and Grand Bahama, versus the Wonder stopping in Nassau and Perfect Day, but surely one extra day of port fees cannot explain the price being doubled!

I prefer the NCL and MSC experience anyway, so I'm not considering either of these overpriced RC sailings, but I'm just curious as to why it's so expensive.
