First step to my wireless drum system build done!!!! (I made a midi signal converter)

The title says it all!

I basically want to make a system with purely wireless drums. Something like what DW has. But when I saw how crazy expensive their system is, I was like hold up this is fairly easy tech I'm SURE it's not nearly as expensive to build. So for our drummer peeps who can't shell out 10 grand for a piece of tech that one would think is decades old (i.e. low latency wireless tech), I started researching how to do it on my own!

I'm not an electronics engineer, I am a software guy. Hence when starting out I didn't have the first clue on how to go about this. But as I kept on just building random shit, I learned quite a bit!

Anyway, stay tuned! I am hoping to get the wireless system built and tested within the week! And if there are any electronics engineers here who would like to help out, I would be more than happy!

First build ever! After TONS of research and loads of help from ALL OF YA'LL AT PCMR!!! Thank you <3

Specs & cost:

- CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D => New off Amazon for £513
- GPU: Gigabyte RTX5080 Aero OC SFF => Used off Ebay for £1035
- RAM: Crucial Pro OC 32GB 6000MHz CL36 => New off Amazon for £349
- Motherboard: Gigabyte X870I Aorus Pro ICE (ITX)=> New off Amazon for £272
- Storage: x1 Crucial P510 SSD 2TB PCIE 5.0 => New off Amazon for £179
- CPU Cooler: NZXT Kraken Elite V2 280 AIO => New off Scan for £99
- PSU: Lian Li SX1200P 1200W Platinum => New off Scan for £139
- Custom Cables: MODDIY 24Pin + EPS => MODDIY for £43
- Case: Monster A45 Mini ITX (Black but painted white in acrylic) => Used off Ebay for £115

Total: £2,744. How'd I do?

Build Notes:

- Custom painted the case in white acrylic for obvious reasons. Lemme know if anyone is wondering how I did that.
- Sleeved DP + HDMI + Power in white braided sleeve and heat-shrinks.
- Hand-modded the SATA power to AIO Fans to get rid of the god-awful daisy-chained connectors.
- Got an aftermarket WiFi antenna from AliExpress to replace the dinky wifi anteanna that comes with the mobo.
- This case does not fit 280/420mm radiators, hence I had to print some adapters.

Always wanted to build a PC, but I wanted it to be slightly more unique and different from "components inside a glass box", hence an open build as my first PC ever!

I don't really game much, and when I do I use my PS5 (ikr kill me pls). But I always wanted to play DCS in VR and run local LLMs, with occasional music production and video editing. Hence this build! Would love to have a 5090 and 64gigs of RAM, but this ain't no slouch either.

Genuinely, thank you each and everyone who helped me with the research these past 8-10 months!

Caveats of getting the Quest 3 without controllers on ebay?

I am not quite sure where to ask this hence this post here, hope ya'll can help out. Here's some contex to my situation:

I'm quite new to DCS and just finished building a pc (r9 9950x3d, 5080, 32gb), bought a HOTAS setup (WinWig Orion 2 base + StrikeAce Throttle & ViperAce E stick), and got OpenTrack working with my webcam.

My goal is to experience DCS in VR. The Bigscreen Beyond 2 would be my ideal choice, but I do not have the budget for that rn and will save up for it to buy it eventually. In the meantime, i would like to get the next best thing that can get the job done, and the Quest 3 has been recommended as arguably the most attractive option rn.

These are my options:

  1. New Quest 3 for about 400 bucks.
  2. Used Quest 3 off of CEX (reputable company basically) for about 300
  3. Used Quest 3 off of EBay (eh kinda questionable rep) for about 250
  4. Used Quest 3 WITHOUT CONTROLLERS (as seen in the OP picture off ebay) for about 160

I want to spend as little as possible here since I would eventually be replacing it with the BSB2. Hence option 4 is an attractive choice.

The help I need from you guys is this:

I want to know if there are any caveats to setting up the Quest 3 without controllers and get it running with DCS. I DO NOT care for any other features that this headset provides, I just want to play DCS. There is a 30 say return option so I CAN return it if the item is faulty.

Help would be massively appreciated guys, thanks in advance!!

Did I just score the deal of a lifetime? WinCTRL Orion 2 Warthog for £292 NEW!!!

https://preview.redd.it/pugaaquv1t8h1.jpg?width=892&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=598111a1fd46586268581ee612c61ca02e2e4295

I just finished building a relatively high-end PC (RTX5080, Ryzen 9 9950X3D, 32G) purely for experiencing DCS in VR. I already exceeded my budget on the PC build and therefore had to wait a bit until I got my hands on a HOTAS system and a VR headset.

I was originally looking at either a used X56 for about 120 bucks or a used TM Warthog used for about 200. But I just could not justify buying a HOTAS that is so widely hated by everyone, especially the X56. And I did personally experience the Orion 2 on my friend's setup and just could not see myself flying on either of these after that. Hence, I made the decision to wait save up money to eventually buy the Orion 2 NEW from their website which was then listed at around 499 bucks.

Fast forward a month later, I was window shopping on their website and lo and behold! The OFFICIAL WinCTRL website (UK Branch) had discounted the Orion 2 MASSIVELY, listing it for only 292 bucks! I didn't think TWICE and just grabbed it. Maybe it was discounted because they want to clear stock or something, but idc I am really glad I pulled the trigger!!!

Now imma just wait for them to arrive (I am not sure how long that'll take if anyone has any idea please do lemme know).

The next and last thing to purchase will be a VR headset! I ideally want the Bigscreen Beyond 2 because it just feels right, and after a LOT of online research I believe it is pretty much the best headset for DCS VR you can get. But I don't think I can afford that anytime soon and I might have to "settle" for a used Quest 3. Either way, I'm dying a happy man!

Please do lemme know if anyone has any tips for a beginner starting out DCS in VR, Orion 2 specific or not!!!!
