In a bit of a tricky spot, Advice needed

Not sure if this should be on the megathread but  ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I have a pre-order for a batch 8 framework 13 pro prebuilt with intel x7 358H, 32gb ram and ubuntu (Previously announced to be first batch shipping in august but now pushed to 3rd batch shipping in September).

I start my first year of engineering in very early September and currently do not have a laptop that I could use besides the framework.

I wanted a portable laptop with decent graphics performance to run 3d software and light games/emulation but nothing too crazy because I have a desktop (5700x3d, 32gb ram, 7800xt) and would rather prioritize laptop battery life.

I was looking into the alternatives with intel b390 but they all seem to either severely lack IO, or be close to a thousand dollars CAD more expensive.

Any suggestions in terms of being able to keep my pre-order or recommendations for alternatives available currently at around the 3k CAD price point ?

I was looking into the HP OmniBook 7 Laptop Next Gen AI 14-hg0010ca but the lack of reviews concerns me.

Good earbuds for normie around ~60 USD

Hello,
I have been using a 2$ pair of plane earbuds when I need to headphones away from home (Have a pair of wired zero 2's at home at my pc) and need a pair of TWS headphones for on the go.

requirements :
- something with a balanced sound that would be good for music and occasional games.

- needs to have a closed case.

- good ANC would be nice but if it is compromised to make the rest of the package much better then that's ok.

Not looking for something super specific just don't want to get ripped off buying high margin base heavy garbage at my local best buy :)

Suggestions would be appreciated !

I live in Canada if that makes any difference.

Thanks

No FSR frame generation option appearing for the finals

5700 x3d, 7800xt
(option was appearing when I was using windows 11 with same specs)

THE FINALS FSR Frame Generation in-game option missing on Ubuntu 24.04 + RX 7800 XT + GE-Proton10-34

I’m trying to get FSR Frame Generation working in THE FINALS, but the Frame Generation option does not appear in graphics settings.

Distro: Ubuntu

Session: X11

GPU: AMD Radeon RX 7800 XT

Proton version: GE-Proton GE-Proton10-34

Steam version: native Steam install (not Flatpak)

What I’ve tried :

Proton Experimental

GE-Proton10-34

Fullscreen exclusive mode

Enabling FSR and restarting the game

Restarting Steam completely

Different launch options:RADV_PERFTEST=gpl %command%

VSync off

▲ 8 r/BCGrade12s+1 crossposts

I applied to:

  • Langara Engineering Transfer Program (safe school) — Withdrew Application
  • UVic Mechanical Engineering (safe school) — Accepted with guaranteed placement and scholarship
  • UBC Applied Science — Accepted in late March
  • Queen's Smith Engineering — Accepted in January
  • McMaster Engineering General First Year — Accepted in December
  • McGill Mechanical Engineering — Withdrew Application
  • Waterloo Mechanical Engineering — Accepted in early April (had emailed for early consideration)

11th grade avg ≈ 95

If not specified, these are all first trimester grades, as this is what I was admitted with for all the programs.

  • IB Math SL 12 (Final Grade): 99
  • AP Calculus BC 12 (Final Grade): 99
  • IB Physics SL 12: 92 (second semester: 94)
  • IB Chem SL: 95 (second semester: 94)
  • English 12: 95 (second semester: 94)
  • French 12: 94 (second semester: 96)
  • Programming 12: 97 (second semester: 99)
  • 5 on AP Calc BC exam

Took some other classes as well but not considered "academic".

Used provincial grades not predicted for admission process as I am not in the DP program.

Decently above average EC's (from arts to volunteering to robotics).

My school didn't offer any of the STEM courses in HL. My physics grade is a bit lower than I would have liked because our teacher got swapped out halfway through the class and I had to get used to the different grading style (both teachers were good, just different).

Even though I'm a BC resident, regardless of where I was going, I would be living in res, which made the finances all relatively close between my top 3 choices (Waterloo, Queen's, and UBC).

I decided to go with Queen's mainly because it had my most desired program and a guaranteed path to pursue it. UBC Eng Phys would be my top choice, but the entry first year is kinda nutty (90% median) and I just couldn't justify it over having free choice at Queen's.

I didn't apply for scholarships at Queen's at the time bc of laziness kicking in, but that's probably my main regret in the whole process. Hindsight is 20/20 though, so it is what it is.

That's about it!
