hello painters I need help, I'm way out of my depth on a paint project and cannot understand how feathering is supposed to work.

When feathering the new paint into the rest of the body how do the areas for sanding, primer, color, and clear interact.

the primer wont stick anywhere that hasn't been sanded, and I don't imagine the color will either. Will clear coat stick to un-sanded clear coat? do I sand beyond where i intend to paint and try to just scratch the clear coat? do I need to spray exactly where i sanded and get no overspray? I'm just a bit lost tbh.

where does the sanding circle go? (if this is even right)

I used to have a 1997 Saab 900 turbo and one of the things i thought was super cool about that car was the flashlight built into the key. Does anyone have an image of that flashlight key with the light on? I can't find an image anywhere. Maybe someone here has that same key and could take a picture?
