Investing in stock market or Buying a Used Automatic Car in Tunisia: Is a 20–35K TND Car Worth It?

Hello everyone, I’m 27 and currently earning around 2,600 TND/month. I’m lucky enough to live rent-free, and I’m trying to keep my expenses as low as possible. At the moment, I spend around 1,600 TND/month, and I’m investing about 1000 TND/month in the Tunisian stock market (Bourse). (Next 5 months im investing 500tnd and 500 paying a debt)

I currently have around 10,000 TND invested in bvmt, and I also own a motorcycle that I’m planning to sell for around 4,000 TND.

I’m now thinking seriously about buying a car, and I’d really appreciate advice who have bought used cars, especially automatic cars.

My two options are:

Option 1: Buy a 28–35K TND used automatic car (i dont care about cars if its not 200k$ car all the same for me, no old bmw, golf or sports car* i want an old man car who doesn’t let his kids touch it )

- Buy in around 5 months+

- Use my savings/investments(i believe to 50+% higher at that time) + motorcycle sale as part of the down payment

- Take a loan of around 15–20K TND

- I estimate the loan would be around 500 TND/month for 5 years

- Add roughly 300–400 TND/month for fuel, insurance, maintenance, etc.

- So the car could cost me around 900 TND/month in total

Option 2: Wait longer and buy a ~20K TND car cash

- Sell the motorcycle for ~4K

- Keep saving/investing

- Wait until I can afford a ~20K+ manual car without taking a loan

The reason I’m considering the more expensive automatic car is that I have a fairly long commute and spend a lot of time in traffic. I feel like having an automatic would make daily driving much easier and less stressful.

My biggest concern is maintenance and reliability. I’ve heard many stories in Tunisia about people buying used automatic cars that end up having expensive gearbox or other mechanical problems, especially when the previous owner didn’t maintain the car properly.

I’m not planning to rush the purchase. I’ll take my time, look at multiple cars, and bring a trusted technician with me before buying. I also know the Tunisian used-car market can be full of scams and overpriced cars, so I’ll be very careful.

Financially, I also find it difficult to stop investing. I’m trying to live as minimally as possible and continue investing every month. I’m wondering whether taking on a ~500 TND/month loan makes sense when I could eventually buy a cheaper car in cash.

I’m also considering covoiturage once I have the car, which could help offset some of the costs.

So, for people who have actually bought a used car in Tunisia:

- Would you take a 28–35K TND automatic car with a 15–20K loan, or wait and buy a ~20K manual car cash?

- Are automatic cars really that expensive/risky to maintain in Tunisia?

- What automatic models would you recommend or avoid?

- What should I absolutely check before buying a used automatic?

- Is spending ~900 TND/month on a car reasonable in my situation?

And if anyone is interested in the Tunisian stock market/Bourse or wants to discuss how I budget and invest, feel free to ask.

Let’s share advice and experiences. 🇹🇳

Has anyone taken the ADP SQL Assessment?

Hi everyone,

I have an upcoming SQL assessment with ADP for a Data Analyst position, and I was wondering if anyone here has taken an ADP SQL assessment before.

How was the test? What types of SQL questions or topics should I expect? Any advice or tips on how to prepare would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Should I Break Dave Ramsey's "No Car Loan" Rule? (27M, Third-World Country)

I'm a 27-year-old single male from a third-world country, so I'd appreciate advice with that context in mind.

My monthly income is $891, plus a $47 monthly grocery/food card. For my age, that's considered a very good salary in my country — about double the average income. I currently invest around $339/month in my country's stock market while preparing for this purchase.

Right now I have about $2,546 in savings (my portfolio is temporarily down about $339, but I expect it to recover), and I can sell my motorcycle for around $1,290.

My plan is to take out an $8,500 loan and buy a used car in the $10k–12k range, while keeping around $1,357 as an emergency fund.

Originally, I wanted to buy an $8,500 car and keep the extra cash. But after months of searching, I've realized the used car market in my country is extremely inflated. Around $8,500 mostly gets you 20+ year-old French or German cars (think an old Polo) with 250,000+ miles on the odometer and reliability issues that often lead to expensive repairs. To get something reasonably reliable, you typically have to spend $10k+. Basically, what would be a $2.5k car in the US costs that much here — and it's 100% better value to stretch the budget.

For perspective: a car that might sell for $5,000 in the US or Europe can easily cost the equivalent of $15,000–20,000+ here because of import restrictions, taxes, and limited supply. I know those prices sound crazy, but that's the reality of our market.

The loan would be for 5 years, with payments of about $200/month.

I know Dave Ramsey strongly recommends avoiding car loans because cars are depreciating assets. Normally I'd agree, but I'm trying to figure out whether my situation is an exception.

I currently own a motorcycle, but it no longer meets my needs. I've already had a serious accident, winter weather is rough, and I get sick almost every month from commuting. Public transportation where I live is also very poor.

One advantage is that I could carpool with the car. Carpooling is very popular in my area because of the lack of public transport, and I estimate I could earn around $100/month, which would help offset fuel costs and part of the loan payment.

I also don't pay rent, so my monthly expenses are relatively low.

Given all of this, does taking the loan sound financially reasonable, or would you still avoid it? If you were in my situation, what would you do?

Interview Tomorrow for a Microsoft Fabric Migration Role – Looking for Advice

Tomorrow I have an interview for what feels like my dream job, and I’d love some help preparing.

I have DP-600 and DP-700 certifications, plus hands-on Microsoft Fabric experience. The role is focused on migrating from Power BI Premium (P1/P-SKU) to Microsoft Fabric (F-SKU).

If anyone has experience with this type of role, I’d really appreciate any advice on what to focus on or what questions I should expect. I’m especially interested in:

  • Auditing Power BI workspaces, datasets, dataflows, and security models
  • Expert knowledge of Fabric licensing models, able to navigate the "F64 threshold" and advise on reserved instances vs. pay-as-you-go to control costs
  • Planning a migration from P-SKU to F-SKU, including cost-benefit analysis of F64+ vs lower SKU tiers
  • Leading a Fabric migration with minimal downtime

If you can recommend articles, videos, interview resources, or share your experience with a similar job, I’d really appreciate it.

Thanks in advance!

DP-800 in 1 Month: Study Plan, Recommended Courses, and Resources?

Hello,

I’m planning to take the DP-800 exam in about a month. I can study around 2–3 hours per day, and I’ll dedicate more time during the last week before the exam.

I already hold the DP-203, DP-600, DP-700, and PL-300 certifications. I’m starting with the Microsoft Learn modules, but I’d appreciate any recommendations for YouTube channels, Udemy courses, practice resources, or study tips that helped you pass DP-800.

Thanks!
