Slow Feeders? ARO vs CremaLoop vs ??

Hey all, I’m looking at getting a slow feeder to use with my electric grinders and am currently debating on the way to go.

Anyone have any thoughts on the best option to go with?

Thanks in advance!

Filtering Cold Brew

How is everyone filtering their cold brew? I enjoy the flavor, but not the sediment or oils.

I just tried pouring a 1L batch into a drip machine with a standard 8-12 cup filter and it started off great, but quickly slowed to just drips and has pretty much stalled with some liquid still in the filter.

I did use the steel mesh filter in the brewer, so this is all fines that were floating around. I feel like I need a better pre filter or something, but no idea what to try.

Thanks for any suggestions!

High End Grinders…

TLDR: Basically, those of you that have gotten expensive high end grinders… Was it really worth it? Any advice for someone considering it. More details below.

I drink decaf 99% of the time (which limits getting truly special beans) and do buy good beans as is. Generally go for washed, but will do honey and natural. Don’t really care for anaerobic ferments. Water is pretty sorted and I’ll likely be moving to mixing up my own shortly.

Currently have a Pietro that I use for most beans and an Ode 2 that I use less. I just prefer the Pietro flavor profile, the Ode lacks the clarity I want for most beans. But it is nice for darker roasts or if I have cheaper beans.

I have a good chunk of money set aside and was going to buy a nice espresso setup. After getting an ORB I realized I don’t really want an espresso setup. So I figure might be a reason to go nuts with grinders.

Things I’ve considered:

  1. Pietron mod to electrify the Pietro, grab an A4Z for another flavor profile.
  2. Zerno Z2 with brew and ULF burrs.
  3. Option O Lagom 01 with probably the same burrs as the Zerno.
  4. Zerno and 01 so I don’t have to switch burrs.
  5. Wug2 - Quick burr changes are nice
  6. Kafatek M98V.
  7. Weber EG1 with Ultra burrs, probably grab brew burrs as well.

Phone shows connected, app sometimes does, won’t update data?

So last night my 4ish year old Fenix 7 stopped updating to my phone. The phone sees it connected to BT, the app sometimes does but won’t update even if I hit the update circle. The watch sees that it’s connected as well, but says to open the app, force closing and then opening the app again doesn’t change anything.

I can still update via WiFi, but that’s just a pain.

I’m getting notifications properly from the phone and have restarted the watch.

Any suggestions?

Decaf African Beans?!?

So I’m wanting to switch completely to decaf. But my preferences lean heavy to the more floral side and I have a distinct preference for beans from Africa.

I’m also having a distinct problem finding said beans in decaf form. I’m in the US and if anyone knows some roasters that currently have any I’d really appreciate the info!

Thanks!

Accessories? Extra portafilter, etc

So I’ve decided to get a Meticulous as my first real espresso machine after using a Nanopresso for a while but could use some advice on accessories.

Thanks in advance!

Tamper - 58mm or 58.5mm? I’ve heard some YouTube people mention you don’t want too tight of a fit so you don’t suck the puck up when removing it?

Extra portafilter and basket - E61 portafilter? Which IMS basket does it come with? I’d like to keep things as similar as possible so I can pull back to back shots for the lady of the house and myself. Wish Meticulous sold them and I could get an identical one, maybe in the future…

Puck screen - Looking to get a woven one as they supposedly smooth out the water flow (maybe?) and I do mostly light roasts so turbos and soup. 58 or 58.5mm here?

Bottom filters - Looking for less body so want some paper filters, size and any brand suggestions on these?

Cold Brew settings for 1500ml?

So I’m looking to make a total of about 2 gallons of cold brew (non concentrate) to take with me to a baseball tournament to keep all of us parents going through a weekend of baseball with a double header.

Just trust the process and use the built in profile with a grind of 6 on an Ode gen 2?

Or should I extend the brew time, change the coarseness?

Like I know I’d change things for pourover, or a hot batch brew that big in the Aiden. But I’ve only made some cold brew concentrate in a French Press so have no idea and don’t want to botch this!

Favorite Orea o1 recipe?

I finally got around to using the o1 & negotiator that I got a few weeks ago with the stock 12g recipe and a negotiated wave filter… Ground on a Pietro with pro brew burrs set to 7.

I’m absolutely blown away, the sweetness, the way the acidity of fruit notes was presented… Absolutely amazing.

Now I’m like if the base was this good…

I have Orea and xBloom wave filters, a negotiator and Orea flat filters.

Please throw some recipes at me and what you think they work best for?

Statement Countertop Manual Grinder?

So I recently found out about the CLD HG-1 Prime and Weber HG-2 which are mainly for espresso. But it got me interested in if a statement countertop manual grinder for pourover exists.

The closest thing I could find was the Orphan Espresso Apex which has been out forever and has like two reviews saying it makes great cups but is a pain to work with and no real comparisons to other grinders.

Since it’s like 8 years old and nobody talks about it, I assume it never caught on or really isn’t that good compared to alternatives like the ZP6 or Pietro that a lot of people talk about.

So… Does anyone know of anything else out there that’s brew focused? Or anything about the Apex?

Fellow EKG or ???

My Dad just got into French Press and this gives me an excuse to upgrade my kettle.

Been using a Cosori for the past few years. My only complaint is it pours faster than I’d like.

I’ve had good luck with Fellow products, I’ve had an Aiden and Ode since release with no issues and they’re used daily. I know a lot of people don’t like them, but I’ve only had one minor odd issue and support got back to me timely with a solution.

So get the EKG, something else, or is anything else about the same speed and I should just keep the Cosori?

FEBU Storage Solition

If the zip top in your bag is a pain because granules keep getting stuck in it like mine… It fits just about perfectly in a 32oz mason jar. Should work just as well in any other 32oz container out there as well.

Edit:: u/FEBU_Max could you share the size of the scoop? I’m realizing I’m going to need something with a longer handle eventually!

Edit2:: The scoop is two teaspoons if you don’t want to read all the comments.

I’ve spent the past two evenings looking into flat bottom brewers and I feel like I’ve just read too much information!

I currently have a switch and Yeti v60. Might add a Mugen as well as I can use it on its own or with the switch base.

Grinders are a Pietro and Ode Gen2. Kinda looking at an Orphan Espresso Apex to replace the Ode as the Ghost Burrs sound really interesting and I’ve found I don’t need an electric grinder.

Looking for sweetness and bringing out fruit flavors. I mostly drink light to light+ beans from Africa as those tend to hit the flavor notes I like.

Initially was looking at a Steel Orea O1 as there’s a lot of experimentation potential if you get the negotiator and tulip for minimal bypass as well as wave filters.

Thanks in advance for any thoughts and/or suggestions!

Looking for a detergent with plant based surfactants to pair with the new FEBU. Obviously lipase or any other enzymes don’t matter. Just looking for surfactant performance and no soapy ingredients or OBAs. Would prefer unscented and liquid, but neither are dealbreakers.

I was thinking of just getting more 365 Concentrated, but haven’t been super impressed. I feel like it needs to be a bit more concentrated like the Sport.

Any suggestions for something that’s a bit more concentrated? I can of course just keep dosing a bit higher, but figured now would be a good time to potentially give something else a try.
