HVAC recommendations in Marin?

Looking for a solid HVAC contractor in Marin.

We've got a 3-story house and the top floor won't cool down on hot days. Turns out the previous owner floored over several vents during a renovation, so a couple of rooms are badly under-supplied and some ducting is plugged and/or removed.

I need someone reliable to add some ductwork, double-wall vents, and a floor vent or two.

Who have you used and been happy with? Thanks in advance for any recommendations.

Checking in early vs late for better seats on Hawaiian (saver fare)?

Flying HNL to SFO tomorrow on Hawaiian metal, saver seats. To get the best shot at forward seats and sitting together, should I check in right at the 24 hour mark or wait until closer to departure? Thanks for any advice.

Business class - SFO to NRT/HND - Philippine Air?

I was on the fence about going to see a friend in Japan this October and waited too long. Now prices are more than my $4K limit for business class.

I've never considered it, but have seen Philippine Air business class fares to Asia for a very reasonable price. But haven't found many reviews. Some of the flights say "angled flat seat" - for me sort of defeats the purpose of business class as I know I could not sleep on what I assume is a extra reclining seat.

I was looking at Zip Air and have flown their lie flat seat before but looks like they are very booked for October (but, strangely enough, not August or September) and prices are very high.

Can anyone give the scoop on PAL? Also, I welcome any other strategies to get to Japan in October in biz for sub $4K. Thank you!

[LANDLORD US-CA] Investigating sober living homes. Doable or a fantasy?

Hi All. I'm a Bay Area landlord with a couple duplexes considering buying another building. I've recently come across this business model of sober living/rehab homes.

I've seen ads claiming government reimbursement programs that pay $1K or more per resident, with two per room, making sober living significantly more profitable than standard long term rentals.

I'm also wondering, as, this is more of a business, if one would not be subject to the strict anti-landlord laws of CA.

Before I explore adding another property to my portfolio for this model, I want to reality check this with the community.

Are there legitimate government programs backing these claims, or is this mostly Instagram/internet BS?

Any landlords here actually running sober living homes in California or elsewhere who can share real numbers and what the regulatory landscape actually looks like?

Thanks in advance.

Cheapest oil change?

Hi all. Where do you go for the cheapest yet most reliable oil change in Marin? My wife is telling me that Valvoline charges $179 to change the oil in her 2016 Audi. Apparently there is an up charge for synthetic oil.

The last time I paid to have my oil changed ten years ago it was $50 at Firestone which is now closed. I would bring my own synthetic oil. Then I started doing it myself - it was quite easy as the truck sat so high. Took me less than 20 minutes.

I'm older now and the idea of removing an underbody piece of plastic and probably having to jack up my wife's small car to do it myself is not going to work.

So, all that said. Where do you recommend to go for an oil change that is economical? Again, I'm willing to go to Costco and get mobile one synthetic oil and bring it if it'll save me the equivalent cost of the up charge. Thanks for any help.

Confirmation time incorrect - WTF?

Hello all. I'm experiencing a problem where I am trying to book the club lounge at SFO for 6:30 a.m. however the confirmation email that I receive says the time is 1:30 p.m.

I've tried calling support a couple times and they are baffled and are not offering any resolutions. They are clueless. Is this a UTC time glitch in the app? Has anyone else experience this problem?

I don't want to show up at 6:30 a.m. and have problems because my booking says 1:30 p.m.

Buying my first tonal. Refurbished with warranty or used from marketplace?

After a lot of research, I've decided to get a Tonal, but I'm stuck between buying a refurbished unit from Tonal or picking up a used one from Facebook Marketplace.

The refurbished Tonal seemed like an easy choice at first, but once I added the accessories bundle, installation, and extended warranty, the total came out to over $3,700.

Meanwhile, there are plenty of used Tonals in my area selling for around $1,500.

From what I've read, the most common failure points seem to be the cables and smart handles. That makes me wonder whether the warranty is worth the roughly $2,000 price difference.

For those who own a Tonal, would you spend the extra money on a refurbished unit with a warranty, or buy used and take the risk? Have any of you had major repairs that made the warranty pay for itself?

Is it possible to repair inside heel of On Cloud shoes?

Hi all. I have four pairs of on cloud shoes. I really dig the look and the comfort of these shoes. However it seems the quality is not the best and I've got two pairs where the inside of the heel is starting to disintegrate. The rest of the shoe is fine, plenty of tread left on the soles, upper looking good it's just the heel fabric is wearing away or has somehow ripped. Is there some easy way to fix this? Should I take the shoes to my local shoe cobbler to see if anything can be done? I hate to throw these shoes away as they were somewhat expensive. Thanks in advance for any advice.
