How do you maintain your bidet

I’ve been bitten by the bidet bug and now have two in my household. One electric and the other non-electric. I imagine the maintenance would be the same for both.

How do you clean and maintain bidets to perform well for years to come?

Does the sprayer ever need cleaning and what do you recommend? After a month mine look good but do they eventually get pooped on?

Hard or soft water issues creating deposits?

Any chemical cleaners to stay away from? Good alternatives?

What else am I missing?

In my 50s: Keep My Financial Advisor or Move Everything to Fidelity?

Starting to really pay attention to our retirement strategy, better late than never right.

My wife and I already have 401(k)s with Fidelity, and I'm considering moving my IRA(s) from a financial advisor who charges a 1% AUM fee.

A few questions for those who have gone down this path:

  • How difficult is it to self-manage retirement accounts at Fidelity? Do you feel supported using this platform? I understand that I need to educate myself with aspects of investing but a wealth of resources are available it seems.
  • How easy was it to transfer an IRA from an advisor to Fidelity?
  • At 54, would you self-manage or continue paying for an advisor?
  • Do you also use a Fidelity brokerage account for taxable investing?

Part of the appeal is having most of our retirement assets in one place for simplicity and visibility. It seems to offer a great user experience. It seems like Fid is recommended along with 2 other platforms.

I'd love to hear from anyone who made the switch or decided not to—and why.

Looking to become more involved in our retirement planning after years of "set it and forget it"

Hello everyone,

This is my first post here. A friend recently gave me a copy of "40 Years of Greed & Exploitation of the American Retiree, and How You Can Fight Back." While reading it, I've started thinking more critically about retirement planning, investment fees, and whether we should continue working with our financial advisor.

My wife and I are both 54 and hope to retire around age 65. Over the years we've accumulated several retirement accounts, including Traditional IRAs, Roth IRAs, a Rollover IRA, 401(k), and a 403(b). She will have a pension and I am contributing to social security. For many years we've mostly taken a "set it and forget it" approach and relied on our fiduciary advisor for guidance.

Lately I've been questioning whether we fully understand our investments, the fees we're paying, and whether we could manage some or all of our retirement planning ourselves. The more I read, the more I realize how much I don't know.

At this stage of our lives, I feel it's important to become more engaged and make sure we're making sound decisions for retirement.

For someone in our position, where would you recommend we start? Are there specific resources, books, Bogleheads guides, or first steps you would suggest for evaluating our current situation and determining whether self-managing our accounts is realistic?

I know that's a broad question, but any guidance on how to begin untangling and organizing our retirement picture would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

How do you know suspension needs replacing?

Owner of a 2006 base NC. I’m not sure if the factory suspension is just stiff (yes OG suspension) or perhaps chances are, just old and not “soaking” bumps or working as it should. The car makes noises (I’m sure being 20 years old) but when I go over bumps could it make less noise by replacing the suspension components? Car also seems quieter with top down so some of those rattle are the roof.

I’ve never owned a car this old, so I’m not sure what to expect at this age. What should I expect? I would like to keep for as long as I can. Also I would like to improve the looks by lowering the car a touch. Thoughts please 🙏

Oak Grove station AM parking

Hi. Still trying to maximize my commute into the city from the North Shore.

What time does MBTA weekday parking at Oak Grove fill up in the morning? Are there alternative parking lots near by after that lot has filled? Thank you.

2012 Coupe as a first MINI? Advice please.

I’m interested in a 2012 Mini Coupe as a second car to combat some of these ridiculous gas prices plus wife and I are looking for something FUN to drive around town. Not really a daily driver but weekend errands and hard top off when weather permits type of driving. Fun, semi-reliable and not a money pit but understand this is a 14 year old.

Some specs that I pulled from the VIN
Base model coupe
Manual transmission
116000 miles approximately
R58 N16 engine non turbo (specs online from VIN lookup)
6000.00 asking price but negotiable and with a trade
Car is from New England (Rust belt region)

What are your thoughts? Again this is my first MINI knowing that the cost of ownership may be a concern. What should I look out for? Thanks!

School me on a potential CJ7

I’m intrigued. Been looking at this classic Jeep for a while and finally asked the owner about it. He would sell if for 10K which feels like a deal to me. Let me know, this would be a weekend car or short trips.

Here are the specifics that I know so far. Getting more details.

1984 CJ7
Hardtop (included)
5 speed manual (original) transmission
In-line 6 fuel injected motor (less than 20k miles on this transplanted motor)
Updated gears (don’t know specifics)
Fiberglass white panels (not sure if the tub is fiberglass) didn’t see any visible body rust
Original metal hood
Has spare windshield as current is rusted

Rust belt car but need to look underneath more (first glance looked pretty good). Owner says nothing really wrong with it.

Is there anything else I should be asking the owner? Thanks for your help.
