Did anyone go to this townhall with ACPS Board member Jim Dillenbeck yesterday? I couldn't make it. But per the article:

I commend him for being the ONLY board member who has bothered to come down from Mount Olympus and grace us with his presence.

Summary from the article:

- 15 ACPS employees have been place on administrative leave. This includes the 3 principals at Monticello, Butler-Baker, and Woodbrook. Important note here is that this is the first time the phrase "administrative leave" has been used.

- ACPS spokesman previously said the three principals were "out of the building for an extended period of time" but that it was not related to the sexual abuse scandal. Dillenbeck said he thought that might not be the case, without giving further details.

- Christie Isaiah of Woodbrook Elementary has apparently not been told *why* she was placed on leave (WTF?). Dillenbeck thinks she should lawyer up (WTF x2).

- The other 12 employees include teachers, teaching assistants and bus drivers. No reason was given.

- Acting Superintendent for Strategic Planning Dr. Patrick McLaughlin is still on administrative leave, pending an investigation into sexual harassment

- Well this is concerning: Dillenbeck said, “I can tell you there’s a staff member at Burley (Middle School) right now who demonstrated some inappropriate behavior with the staff at Henley (Middle School) last year. He’s now at Burley.” (WTF x3)

Not sure what! is going on but all lanes are closed from somewhere around two fifty to god knows where Barely moving.

I just can't imagine: 1) Who sees this as having ANY kind of future, and 2) What this financing actually secures.

Its only hope would be that it has secured some kind of streaming deal with Netflix or Hulu or something. Otherwise, what has changed? The rosters are far, far weaker and fan interest is still at zero.

Kids and dogs have done a number on the fabric seats. Any recommendations for seat covers that are durable and easy to clean?

I'm taking my son to the Motionless in White concert tonight at Jiffy Lube. I know less than zero about this band and the other ones playing. Have also never been to Jiffy Lube.

1. With the horrid smoke and air quality, we are trying to limit our time outside, so are not planning on getting there for the first opener (there are 3 before MIW). The only opener he's interested in seeing is Lorna Shore.

What I can't figure out is where in the lineup Lorna Shore will play since there's some conflicting info on setlist.fm. This is only the third show of the tour for them, and in the first tour they are listed as going on as the last opener at 8:00pm; in the second, there is no start time but they are listed as going as the second band.

Best guess, would you think they are the immediate opener before MIW, just based on popularity and all of that?

I'm also thrilled to see that there are a ton of girls. When I was growing up, you simply didn't see girls playing golf.

This is probably my favorite sales pitch of all time: You should give us your money because we have lost billions of dollars -- so think of the tax advantages for you!

For those not familiar, tax law allows you to take previous years' net operating losses and apply them to years where you DO have a profit. So if you lost -- and I'm just pulling numbers at random here -- $5B over the last 5 years, but make $100M in profit next year, you can apply $100M of those losses and avoid paying taxes.

In golf terms, this is known as "I hit it so badly that I'm actually going to be ok" because you went left of all the trees and are now in the 13th fairway.

As pointed out in the article, the timing of this is no coincidence. "Under the the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act, companies with 100 or more employees must provide a 60 calendar-day advance notification of potential layoffs."

LIV’s last event in 2026 is August 30, so it looks like they are prepping to lay people off after the conclusion of that event.

Guess that $300M in funding isn't looking too promising.

Just a PSA for people in recovery like me, or folks who don't drink for health/social/religious/any reason:

I was in Target today to get some stuff and their NA selection caught my eye. They have several products that I haven't seen anywhere else in town, like Phony Negroni, some mocktails by Athletic, various "social tonics" (no idea what that really is but I had one at a pool party today and it was delicious), NA wine (including a sparkling from Josh Cellars that I have never seen), and a small but respectable NA beer selection.

I had gotten a little tired of the same stuff at Kroger and Food Lion, so this was a very, very welcome discovery I wanted to pass on.

Also, a plug for r/stopdrinking if you are looking for support to stop drinking or are just a bit worried about your alcohol consumption. It is quite literally the most positive, supportive place on the entire Internet.

Next week, our parish is doing a second collection for Peter's Pence. In the past, this was always presented to the faithful as donating to the Church's universal charitable fund to help the poor. I was happy to donate.

But, as some might remember, a few years ago it came out that about 80%-90% of the money was instead being used to plug holes in the Vatican budget and for investment purposes.

Honestly, I'm pretty miffed about being misled like that. I don't necessarily have a problem with helping the Vatican fund its budget -- the money has to come from somewhere, and I don't want them to start doing the obvious thing like charging admission to St. Peter's -- but I wish they had just been honest about it.

Even on the official website, the language still says that the aims of Peter's Pence is "To contribute to the Holy Father’s charitable initiatives in support of individuals and families in need, populations affected by natural disasters or wars, or those requiring humanitarian aid or development assistance."

Frankly, I'd rather give my money to the St. Vincent de Paul Society or something because I still feel like I'm being deceived.

Curious how other people feel about contributing to Peter's Pence.

What an absolutely worthless school board. Haas should have been fired with cause. Instead he gets a year of pay and benefits.

Looking at starting a Venture crew for my son and some friends who aren't interested in traditional Scouting but Venturing seemed to get their attention.

Only problem is that I don't really know how venture crews work.

For example, if a crew were to go to a summer camp, is there stuff to do other than work on merit badges? I've seen reference to "Venture Resident Camps" but am having a hard time finding any that provide any real details on what programing looks like.

I assume that Venture crews have access to all of the BSA facilities and whatnot, like a regular troop?

How often do crews typically meet? My feeling from what I have read is that it's more "whenever you want or need to plan something" as opposed to the typical weekly meetings that I was familiar with.

Is it a fair characterization to say, "Venturing is whatever you want it to be?"

Sorry, I know these are sort of general questions but it's just a program that I am wholly unfamiliar with.

I'm sure this is a well-known spot to local birders, but a buddy took me and my family to Ivy Creek yesterday morning for a bird walk and showed us where the herons have a rookery. There are 3 nests, and we saw probably 10 herons, including several juveniles.

From the parking lot, take the red trail to the orange trail (turn right). Go down the hill to a little lookout. The rookery is across the water. Find the last tree on the right and scan the tops of the trees. There is one nest in that tree, and two nests in the tree to the left. Binoculars needed.

I just found it very, very cool. A great excuse if you're looking for a reason to go outside.

(I'm having a brain fart and can't remember if he said they were blue herons or great white. I know nothing about birds.)

Excited to watch my beloved Fighting Irish play for the lacrosse national championship on Monday at Scott Stadium.

For football, we always just park at JPJ and walk. But given that this is a smaller event and that the university isn't in session, I'm wondering if there's somewhere closer to park? You can buy passes in the green, yellow, and orange lots, but can't say I feel like shelling out $80 for that.

I don't know that area real well, so any advice appreciated.

This involves payment of all outstanding fines accrued from 2024 to date, along with participation in agreed DP World Tour tournaments (outside the Majors) in the remainder of the 2026 season.”

Just got home from the hospital. What a day.

My 11yo daughter started having absence seizures in school. In retrospect, she has had these before, but we didn't know what they were -- I had never even heard of this. After receiving tremendous care in the ER and Neuro department, we are finally back home and figuring out next steps.

Do any of you have kids with JAE? Or are now adults with JAE?

I guess what I'm most worried about is what does life look like for her when she is older? My understanding is that unlike the Child version of this condition, JAE most likely isn't going to go away when she gets older. I just am worried about the quality of life my daughter will have and how this may impact her. I know nothing about epilepsy, so all of this is out of the blue and, frankly, overwhelming. (Doesn't help that I had to sleep on The Chair in the hospital, so I'm exhausted as well.)

I don't even know what questions to ask. If anyone would be able to share their thoughts and experiences, I would appreciate it.
