[OC] I built a small mobile app for EV charging logs (WattMate) after fuel trackers didn't fit

Hi everyone. Disclosure first: I built WattMate, and this is the official WattMate account. I asked the mods before posting, and they were okay with a transparent [OC] post.

Why I built it

I made WattMate after getting an EV and trying to track charging with fuel-tracking apps. They handled fuel-like entries, but not the details I actually cared about for EV charging: start/end SOC, kWh added, AC vs DC, cost per kWh, and how sessions build into longer-term vehicle stats.

The app is intentionally narrow right now: an EV charging logbook, not a charger map, route planner, or charging network.

What it does

  • Log AC/DC charging sessions
  • Track charging cost and cost per kWh
  • Keep charging history per vehicle
  • Compare trip-computer consumption with charging-based real-world consumption
  • Show vehicle-level stats and battery-related insight when there is enough data
  • Import/export charging sessions with CSV

Free / Premium

  • Free tier: 1 vehicle and up to 15 charging sessions.
  • Premium is optional; it removes those limits and helps cover cloud/backend costs.

The free tier is meant to be enough to test the workflow across real charging sessions before deciding whether the limits matter for you.

What I am looking for

This post is not a giveaway, and I am not asking for ratings or reviews. I am mainly looking for honest workflow feedback from EV owners.

I would especially value critical feedback:

  • Is this the kind of charging history you would actually maintain?
  • What would make logging a session too much effort?
  • What feels confusing, unnecessary, or annoying?
  • Which stats are useful, and which ones are noise?
  • What would make the app more useful for your EV ownership workflow?
  • Would maintenance logs, maintenance reminders, or tracking other vehicle costs belong in an EV-focused app like this, or would that make it too broad?
  • If you already track charging costs, what are you using now?

Please leave general feedback in the comments so others can react too. If something involves account-specific details, feel free to DM this account or use the contact form/email from the app or website.
