Y'all prefer the leather or cloth bench seats?

I feel like I'm the summer I would want cloth but I've never had leather seats so I don't know if there's something people do to mitigate that? Ive thought of just using a blanket in the summer to sit on

Quickly help, is 18 v makita strong enough for most things on this truck

Guys selling a makita cheap. I have a 93 2wd drive . Plan to use impact for daily things like lug nuts and later suspension parts replacement and want something strong enough for wheel bearing change in case I need to do that. Figure if it can do wheel bearing it'll do anything I need it to that require lots of leverage. Also I'm a petite girl and would like to shorten my repair time as this is a work rig and need to focus on that. When I did tie rods it took me so long cause I had short jacks which I've replaced with 6 ton but still would like to make things so easy I have no problem doing a parking lot job which is what I have to do since I have no garage and no one to watch my tools so I'd like to be in and out for anything crazy. I figure most things take a long time cause of stubborn bolts so what y'all think?

Question about sizing

Size 8. 4 years ago I bought the size I normally am and they were fine and wore them to work and after a week my toes were starting to blister. I keep breaking them and stretching them in that spot. Nothing. I ended up taking the sole out so I could wear them and they were still the comfiest boots I've ever had. After 4 years my back is hurting again and my feet hurt more.

So I know you have to size up for these boots. But if it was my big toe that blistered does that mean I need size 8 wide. I remember the top of my feet feeling a bit snug but no pain. I'm not sure if a bigger size means more room there. As far as length is concerned they always seemed the right length. And yes I got fitted. I went to boot barn but the employees were basically no help to me so I don't think it's my problem. I also used the print out size cart and still... So my question is do larger and or wider sizes have more room above the toes.

Is starting a company and working solo in residential/commercial repaints and remodels worth it rn?

Tldr: I'm women and struggled enough with misogyny and egos I want to be solo painting, I'm however 30 and have bad mental health and don't plan to live that long and not looking to buy a house just want to sustain myself and have enough for winter and my depressive episodes. Repaints are hella saturated in the bay and seeing a lot out here that's giving me doubts... My bad wrist and mental health make me feel like doing another trade seems unlikely. Union hasn't called me back and I think I would be happier being solo anyway. I have carpal tunnel and torn meniscus that hast fully healed.

If I started a company it would be only to sustain myself and not have to work with people who would drive me crazy. Now it's only the clients driving me crazy lol.

I'm almost 30 , body hurts but I could keep going and take better care of myself than other painters. I'm not looking to make it big just wanna average 6-10k a month. I'm a penny pincher and always have been so I don't need too much money to live. I buy used and fix my own truck and cook all my meals myself I could really get by on much less but would like to hire just one helper just to save my back more and teach someone else a trade.

It's so saturated and I feel like I'm in too deep with painting it's hard to imagine changing trades especially since I love this one and got used to the stress and it gives me a lot of pride since there are so many bad painters. I also have one bad wrist that is fine for painting but couldn't imagine having to lift all day or use for support right now. I think it might be carpal tunnel or sprain that I've had for 8 months. I'm at least familiar with painting that I know I'm not gonna reinjure it. It's just me taking care of myself so if I fuck up my wrist again and can't work that might be a huge deal I don't know .

I'm a much better painter than business person but I'm surprising myself by getting lead on my own on Facebook. It's not much but if only the union took me in or if non union payed more. I know I'm underbidding alot of people but I need to and I'm not a hack and charge $350 a day without overhead. My mom owned a painting company and I saw how much they worked and hated it . But honestly if you knew me before it's crazy I'm trying this own my own giving how hard it is for me to talk to clients and be a sales person. I hate selling shit, that's why I work in the trades! But I'm getting better at it and have my mom's wisdom but she's dead now so it's just me again.

I know I can't paint forever and it's stressing me out without a plan... I'm really not a people talker... I just wanna paint and not talk to many people but that only seems realistic with a two man crew at a small company and I haven't found that where I currently live now. Many companies don't offer healthcare and haven't got any callbacks from the union and hear they're down to there core employees too... I feel like I'm gonna work myself to a grave but ...I also had a plan to become an estimator when I'm too old but seems like it's also hard to find a job like that since companies seem to have their team set up and aren't hiring as frequently.

I also feel because of my bad mental health it makes more sense to be solo so when I have a depressive episode I can get done with all the projects I lined up and just not go outside and won't have to worry about people I hired. And it seems the more people you hire the more you have to be getting jobs constantly. I just want a simple life with my beater truck I don't think it's realistic to buy a house for me due to my mental health and politics and wonder about my future in the US. It feels like everything will collapse soon and just wanna make it that far enough. I also don't wanna screw over other workers TBH. The only reason I want my own company is cause non union is shit and seems like the only way people sustain a company is by bidding high and paying low. Granted I don't know the number but it seems like everyone's making the same shit wages since 2014 and the crew leader maybe makes $ 2-5 more than what I'm used to. But honestly $35 an hour taxed and no health insurance is fucking bullshit ... I have so much pride in my work and honestly have had such a hard time dealing with large crews this at least makes me feel happier. I would do union at the cost of being socially uncomfortable. If they take me.

I've done commercial but seems like working solo isnt something people want with their deadlines and such. I can only see myself doing offices or restaurants that can be done in a week.

Am I crazy?

How much is ppg vs sw

Thinking of making a switch purely for cost reasons, mainly cause I'm just starting out but ofc you need an account with them and I'm currently unlicensed. How much would they sell speed hide for a gallon or 5. What are the product equivalence between the two brands? I've used ppg before and have found it does dry faster than other paints but idk it went on just fine , good coverage, tasted worse imo but I'll get over that

For a 93 is it worth getting the OEM cup holders or aftermarket

Wondering if its worth having or if the cup sizes are too small for post 90s drinks lol as long as I could get an arazona or average coffee in there were good. I also wonder about how brittle the plastic would be at that point. Only other place I would want cup holder is near the door so I don't have to bend over to get it(I'm short).

What are you guys carrying your brushes in that's keeping the bristles intact

I take really good care of my brushes. I don't use the sleeve, mostly cause they suck and cause they break after the first season. I mask them up but keeping them in a box can bend the bristles especially if it's still wet that I have to work out with paint if I'm lucky. Most of the time it just stays like that and I need a new brush. I thought about maybe using a 5 gallon and inserting a rod in there so the bristle never touches anything. Transporting brushes seem to be the only way I damage my bristles now . There doesn't seem to be a good product out there . What's your solution

▲ 2 r/Scams

He found me on Facebook. Says hell have his account manager send me the email tomorrow for a deposit. No work done. He ofc made excuses for what he couldn't use zelle but that he's allowed to do this. Certain it's a scam but not sure how it works or if I can scam them back lol. I've seen someone posting about the same thing but that they want the deposit information which I guess has sensitive information. If I don't send it I'm guessing he will take the money back but not sure how that works

Waaaay way back had a foreman who ran his own company.

His cabinet door system was basically 2 2x4 supported by 5gallon buckets and nails sticking out of it. No ventilation We painted one side and carefully flipped it. The nails point was sharp enough it didn't leave much of a mark I think? Maybe we only painted one side at a time I can't remember? It was a tedious system but it worked and I remember things working out. I'm guessing we had to do both sides so there wasn't an over spray. It was in a garage so maybe that helped the over spray since it would take longer to dry when you started spraying doors. Sorry it's been like 8 years since that job and other cabinets jobs I've done I was doing the prep work and it was only on the carcasses, and they sprayed doors off site which I was t apart of. Not a fan of this method for a number of reasons. All the cabinet work I've done was prep work and a tiny bit of spraying. But it's really having a good system and being super diligent with prep work that seems to be the hardest part for people. So there is a gap in my knowledge in that, I don't know how do I actually create a good system without spending thousands up front.

Also the guy I worked with was this old head real anal guy, miss him dearly. Anyway we didn't do cabinets very often so I think that's why he never had a system that he bought or was better than what we have but it worked and I was wondering if it was a good idea, this was so long ago I don't remember how they came out other than it was smooth and no complaints. He was a super anal guy like the kind you don't wanna work with at first till you learn something you never woulda guessed without him. He was also super smart painter so I feel like he woulda came up with the best system and realized he didn't need all that fancy systems especially if we only do 1 or 2 sets of cabinets in any year.

But I really enjoyed that work so here Iam.

I want to recreate that system and other systems I've seen like the ones you screw the doors into seem to at some point involve doing touch up and filling the screw holes too. Unless you guys are just putting holes at the top of the door and leaving it which seems wrong too. Also wondering just how important having a vent system is. We sprayed cabinets inside and bubbles everything up , used fine tips and can't see why you would need that other than cause the smell but non painters shouldn't be home anyway when your spraying and once you open the windows and it's somewhat dry I atleast can't smell anything but I'm also nose blind to it. I guess if a clients is that pressed about it. Makes sense if you spray shellac not that I would personally but depends on the project.

The only issue I can see about that system is it's hard to do without a large empty garage, I imagine over spray was an issue , the dude also was a kick ass sprayer so he did em super fast for them being cabinets doors with floating panel. So it coulda be that you can do it if you're fast spraying and your paint doesn't dry super fast and using the plastic to help keep it insulated. I don't remember there being touch ups really. Maybe a little from where the nails scratching dry paint but thats not to bad for a cheap system. What do you guys think?

Sorry if I'm asking dumb questions most of the spraying of done was exterior and some interiors and doors and trim but not cabinets but did a lot of prep work and loved doing it but the system is the hard park to figure out on a budget and there is a gap in knowledge spraying, particularly when it comes to vent system and booths cause we never used them and don't see the point if you can spray them fast. Unless you had sooo man doors that it would be impossible to spray them all without over spray. We probably were spraying on side at a time I just can't remember

Asking specifically for finishing , electrical and plumbing.

Ive seen quite a few people who were in the union who went to non union and prefer it and have no idea why. One drywaller said it was monotonous. Others I've heard aren't getting work consistently but paying dues. Or that there's a lot of internal politics, preferential treatment toward people that have family ties, or just flat out dumb people who haven't been in the union just hating on unions.

I'm a painter I'm the bay area and have tried calling all of the signatory list a few times now. Often people confuse me saying that I have 8 years experience with someone who's in the union and so they tell me they're not hiring and sometimes they ask if I'm already in the union and when I say no and how my rep told me to call shops first and then join/pay my dues , some are confused when I say that cause they expect me to already be in the union/paying dues and like I'm not working so why the fuck would I do that??? but they keep my number. Anyway it seems like there's alot of people not working so they will have preference over someone who's new like me. But it's literally spring, if it's not popping off rn I doubt it will in the winter and I doubt summer will be enough to make enough for next spring...

Plus I would be considered an apprentice for a while, make less, but also they're less likely to give me a job anyway .. it's forcing me to look for side work essentially and call it starting a business and I really don't wanna I just wanna work and for it to be worth it .. seriously looking into a plumbing job cause idk if it's just painting or what but this shit fucking suck.i feel like I'm stuck non union or doing side work and growing my name which is cool I guess but this shit sucks too .
