Thanks r/AppleMusic! My app MatchBeats has gotten a lot better thanks to your feedback

A couple of weeks ago I shared an early beta of MatchBeats, a social music app built around Apple Music.

A huge thank you to everyone here who signed up, tested it, and sent feedback. Many of the features and UI improvements over the past few weeks came directly from suggestions in this subreddit.

Since then I’ve added things like:
- Better music matching
- Music discovery through people with similar taste
- Shareable music cards (taste evolution, weekly recap, current vibe, etc.)
- Notifications for music activity between friends
- Lots of UI polish and quality-of-life improvements

The goal is simple, instead of relying entirely on algorithms, discover music through people whose taste actually overlaps with yours.

You can:
- Find your closest music matches
- See what they’re listening to
- Discover songs they’ve introduced you to
- Follow how your own taste evolves over time
- Share your music identity with friends

I’m still actively building it, and I’m reading every piece of feedback that comes in.

If you’re an Apple Music user and would like to help shape it, I’d love to have you join the beta.

As always, I’d really appreciate any thoughts or suggestions.

Thanks again to everyone who’s helped so far.

Spotify developer limitations

For those who don’t know, Spotify limited/restricted developers from using their APIs back in February as a way to prevent data jacking, which I totally get, they have to protect their IP. However, this has completely blocked an entire ecosystem of early stage product developers who cannot share their app with more than 5 users. Case in point, in order to be considered for a quota increase you need to prove you have 250k monthly active users, impossible with only 5 allowlisted accounts.

I posted my story in the developer community in hopes of starting a discussion with other founders like myself. Upvotes or support in any way would be appreciated. https://community.spotify.com/t5/Spotify-for-Developers/February-2026-Spotify-for-Developers-update-thread/m-p/7485105/highlight/true#M21608

I developed a free music recommendation app that works with Apple Music and Spotify. It’s in beta would love some feedback.

I built a free Apple Music and Spotify companion app/site called MatchBeats and I’d love some honest feedback from fellow Apple Music users. Spotify only allows limited users while in development mode, so I can only accept Apple Music users right now.

The idea started because I was frustrated that music discovery is mostly algorithm-driven. Apple Music and other services can recommend songs, but they can’t really tell you:

“Who has music taste similar to mine?”

MatchBeats analyzes your listening history and:

• Finds people with similar music taste
• Shows why you match (artists, tracks, genres, and recent listening)
• Helps you discover artists and songs your matches love that you haven’t heard yet
• Lets you discuss artists and tracks with other fans

The recommendations only get better as more users join and connect their listening histories.

My biggest question:

Would you personally use something like this, or is music discovery already solved for you by Apple Music recommendations?

I’d genuinely appreciate the feedback.
