How do you balance creating what you feel vs. the kind of music you want to make?

I’ll try to explain what I mean.
I have a pretty clear idea of the kind of music I want to write, the lyrics, the melodies, the genre, the overall atmosphere.

But whenever I sit down to actually write, sometimes all that comes out are these really raw emotions, with melodies that don’t necessarily fit the kind of music I picture myself making.

Those songs usually feel much more intense. The melodies hit harder, the vocals come more naturally, and even if they’re technically simple, they feel real. They’re also pretty cathartic, like I’m getting something out of my system.

It leaves me feeling a little confused.

I’ve only been writing songs for a few months, so I’m guessing it’s just a matter of experience. Maybe I don’t have the skills yet to write the way my favorite artists do, within the genres that inspire me.

I’m curious if anyone else has gone through this. Do you just let yourself write whatever comes naturally and figure out the style later?

Or do you actively try to shape your ideas toward the kind of music you want to make?

Thinking about Gerard’s younger self.

Do you guys ever stop and think about how happy Gerard in his early twenties would be if he knew where he and the band would end up?

And I’m thinking about Gerard specifically because of everything we know he went through, especially the struggles with his mental health that later became public.

I get emotional watching recent concert videos. The whole band has become such a huge inspiration to me, a reminder of how far someone can go if they genuinely believe in themselves.

Gerard has always inspired me with the way he words things, like the way he talks about not hating yourself, about wanting more from life, about being creative, and how he would always say that MCR was the best band in the world.

I wish we could all believe in ourselves like that and understand our own potential, or at least imagine where we can get to in order to have the strength and courage to do it.

Again, probably just PMSing.
I’m gonna go cry now.

Dicas de quem conseguiu o visto americano

Tudo bem, pessoal?

Struggling to write fresh melodies

Hey guys!

I started writing songs recently, about two months ago, and I feel like my lyrics are slowly improving and coming more naturally than my melodies.

The problem is that I often catch myself writing melodies that sound very similar to things I’ve already written, or melodies that don’t feel as interesting as the lyrics they’re attached to.

My main instruments are acoustic and electric guitar, and I wonder if part of the issue is that I naturally fall into the same patterns, chord shapes, and vocal habits every time I write.

Do you have any tips or exercises for breaking out of your usual melodic tendencies? How do you find fresh melodic ideas when you feel like you’re repeating yourself?

I’d especially love advice from people who write primarily on guitar, but any perspective is welcome.

Thanks!

Vale a pena financiar a primeira moto?

Fala pessoal!

Quero comprar minha primeira guitarra.

Am I the only one who cries my eyes out listening to The Kids From Yesterday? ❤️‍🩹

Sometimes I even avoid listening to it because it feels way too nostalgic, but whenever I really need to cry, it somehow comforts me.

It happens with SING too, especially when I’m going through a hard time.

Has anyone else ever dreamed of a melody and then forgotten it when they woke up?

This has happened to me a few times and it’s always frustrating, but the last time it happened I woke up at 3 a.m., half asleep and completely sleep-drunk, humming the melody and recorded it.

A few days later, after trying to figure it out, I finally got it right and right after that I matched it with lyrics that just felt right.

I guess that’s what I’m gonna keep doing lol.

I’m currently going through a mixed episode and it really sucks. My thoughts are racing, I feel creative and impulsive, and then I crash into a depression that paralyzes me.

My body feels exhausted while my mind stays anxious about everything, and I keep struggling not to invalidate my own feelings in the process.

Lately I’ve been doing things I always wanted to do. I started drawing again, went back to singing classes and wrote songs I didn’t think I was capable of, and finally found the courage to try making music with other people. I almost quit my toxic and stressful job (which was my trigger) but instead I took some time off to adjust to new medication. Now I’m close to getting a new job, which is exciting, but I’m also scared of still feeling like this if it happens.

What hurts is knowing that even with medication and therapy, episodes can still happen. They feel more manageable now and I’m more aware, but they’re not fully avoidable. I was stable for about three months.

I try to handle it by creating and going out with friends when I feel more energized, while doing my best to stay mindful of my actions. On harder days, I try to get some sunlight, but sometimes I just let myself feel it and rest in bed because that’s all I can do.

I have a support system, but I don’t want to overwhelm them, so I end up keeping a lot to myself.

Does anyone have tips on how to deal with this?

Hey guys! Just wanted to share a new MCR T-shirt I bought here in Brazil.

After the shows, I was looking for some merch I actually liked and ended up ordering a few old-school designs online (still waiting for them to arrive). But this one is locally made, and the fabric is sooo good. I’m really happy with it!

EDIT: I know Gee looks bald 😂😂😂 nothing’s perfect

EDIT 2: The store agreed Gee looks off. They’re giving me a new shirt, pic in the comments.
