I feel like I need to tell someone about yesterday.
Yesterday i was the autozone on 4th, by the big safeway to buy a repair manual. I got to my car and was standing at the trunk flipping through the book when a young black guy on a bicycle approaches asking me if I have narcan.
I couldnt understand tf he was saying the 1st few times he asked and finally i understood.
He was so chill about it, he didn't seem concerned about the narcan, it felt like he wanted to talk to me rather than find narcan. It was very confusing. I suggested going inside of the safeway to ask either the pharmacy or the service desk. I also suggested Walgreens across the street. Neither one of is had our phones at the moment.
He said he just happened to see there was a young man likely overdosing on the side walk near the safeway. He said he saw him start to fall out as he rode past.
0 urgency.
Then he shouts the same jibberishy narcan question to some other guy getting into a car. The guy comes over to see whats up and immediately freaks out asking where the guy is. But he doesn't have any narcan either.
About 4-5 mins have passed now. Then in the as nonchalant as possible the black guy suddenly produces narcan from his backpack. The random guy who was freaking out grabs it and sprints across the parking lot to find the guy ODing.
After a bunch of commotion, shouting and rustling around, he stands up and puts his hands on his head and is pacing around, goes back to the guy for a moment, stands up again, and paces with his arms in the air in defeat.
Im pretty sure the guy died.
The black guy and I are just standing there watching from across the parking lot. Then he turns to me, asks my mame and tells me "you are very pretty. Like really pretty. Do you have a boyfriend? I responded with a fake name and said I was married and got into my car and drove away.
I had left my phone at home, otherwise I would have called. I'll never understand why that guy didn't just use the narcan he had or ATLEAST check his bag for it when he realized it was needed.
The man that tried to save him was so quick to save a strangers life and so legitimately worried the moment he understood the situation. It was incredibly sad to see him with his arms in the air like that.
Idk why I'm sharing this, but I feel like I needed to tell someone.
