AITAH for telling my friend that it's not the best idea to bring her son over while we do ✨🍄✨

I (24f) am on PTO this week to celebrate my birthday and I am blessed enough to have to not go back until next Tuesday.

To preface everything, my friend group is very 420 friendly and we do partake in shrooms every once in a blue moon. Today, literally 20 minutes ago, I asked my friends Leigh (25f) and Jordan (26f) if they wanted to come to my house this coming Sunday to watch movies, order takeout, and partake in some shrooms. Leigh immediately said yes. Jordan said yes but asked if she could bring our nephew/ her son (11 months).

I was about to answer the text message, but a call came in from my boss that I needed to answer. After I got off the phone with my boss I saw a lot of messages in the group chat between Leigh and Jordan. Leigh shared that If she’s not taking shrooms than maybe she can. Jordan expressed that she wouldn’t if he comes. Leigh also expressed that if she can get a family member to watch him she could. Leigh responded she doesn’t know given that we are going to be going on a magical trip.

I responded agreeing with Leigh sharing my conscious wouldn’t let me do that if baby Peter was to come and I would feel really bad. Jordan has yet to respond.

I just feel really bad because I don’t want it to seem like we are excluding her, but I’m also not comfortable going on a trip with a baby around?

I also know that if baby Peter is here, she is going to make us go outside to smoke if we decide to do so and the last time that happened, she asked my boyfriend to watch Peter and my boyfriend couldn’t smoke with us. I didn’t really smoke either because I felt oddly obligated to keep my eye on the baby.

I hope I’m not coming off as mean I just don’t think that is an environment for a child. The only reason I responded was because we are meeting at my place and so I do have to weigh in. I’m just worried I may have hurt her feelings. Am I the asshole?

AITAH: I Canceled My Birthday Trip

AITAH for canceling my birthday trip to Universal Studios after people started dropping out and asking me to cover their costs?

So my birthday is in August and I planned a whole trip to Universal Studios—me, my boyfriend, his brother, and four of my friends. Seven people total. I made a DETAILED itinerary. Like prices, time blocks, group activities, personal time, all of that. I personally reached out to everyone to find dates that worked, we all locked in the same week, and I went ahead and reserved the villa.

IN MARCH I sent everyone the itinerary including their portion for the villa—$211 and some change each. Last week two people drop out. Already annoying because now the cost goes up for everyone else or I have to eat the difference AND we talked about this 🥹.

BUT. I specifically told the group do NOT buy your Universal ticket yet, wait until I send the official text blast. One person bought their ticket anyway, and now is asking me if I can cover their villa portion until they pay me back sometime after the trip. Like… you already requested off work. You already got a babysitter. You’re coming. But you need ME to front your villa cost for my birthday trip 🥴?

This would actually be the THIRD birthday in a row where I’ve covered people to come celebrate me. The last two years I paid out of pocket because I really wanted certain people there. I love my people but I am TIRED. And the kicker? The same ones who can’t cover their portion are the same ones asking if they can bring strangers I’ve never met. Make it make sense.

My boyfriend offered to take me to NYC instead. Shopping, museum hopping, sweet treats, all my favorites! I’ve been trying to get back to New York for two years now. My stepdad is from the Bronx and I used to go all the time as a kid to visit my late grandma, so it genuinely means something to me. Then I’m thinking I just go out to St. Yves with some friends (including the same people from this trip) and have a good time without the financial stress.

But now I’m second guessing myself because one person already arranged their PTO and childcare around this trip. Even though they won’t lose any money, am I wrong for pulling the plug and just doing something different?

AITA?

Hey THT fam, I’ve been struggling with this for a couple of days. Sigh I’m back with more mommy drama 🥹🙄

For my Dads birthday, he invited our family to celebrate his birthday with his girlfriend and some friends at the National Monument to fly some kites. My little sister (14 f) didn’t want to go, her relationship with dad has been shaky since the divorce and she hated the way he introduced his new gf. I mean rightfully so. Telling a moody middle schooler at 7:45 am otw to school that you have a new gf after the divorced we just witnessed isn’t the smartest idea. My little brother though wanted to go.

We talked about it and decided that he would take the metro to my place and we would go to the birthday party from there. Initially my mom was going to take my brother to the metro station, but plans changed and she didn’t really feel like it, so he just took an uber. Once every one met up at my house (god sister and brother) we went to the party to fly kites and mingle with guest for a bit.

After our dad’s party, we decided that before we took our brother home we would go out to eat and walk around a bit. While we were eating, I get a FaceTime call from my mom and I let my brother answer the phone. We were still laughing and goofing off while he was answering the phone but that was cut short by my mom fussing at my brother asking where he was and what he was doing. He told her that he was out with us and eating dinner as he flipped the camera we were waving and smiling. He explained he missed her call because his phone is almost dead and on dnd. After she got all the answers she was looking for, she hung up, we finished eating and closed our tab.

If I forgot to explain, my mom and siblings live in Frederick, my boyfriend and I live about an hour to an hour and a half from my mom, and our god sister lives about 15 minutes from me. My brother doesn’t have a car yet, he’s in school and works part time. He’s an upstanding kid, his humor is off the charts, and has never really been in trouble aside from typical boy stuff like trying to do par core off the couch and stuff like that🤣. We knew that it was going to be pretty late when we ended our day so we made sure he knew that he wouldn’t have to take an uber or metro home we could drive him. I don’t want my brother on the metro at night alone.

By the time we get to my mom’s house it’s around 10:45/11:00. We just planned on dropping him off at the front door since we had to get back to our side of town and still go to work in the morning. My mom hated that idea and wanted us to come upstairs to say hi. I told her it was a bit late, we had to fight traffic in the way back and are really tired. It’s not that we didn’t want to see mom, it’s just we know how mom can be a quick second can turn into an hour easily.

I guess that rubbed my mom the wrong way and she took it to social media… she made the post, which I attached below. I asked in the group chat without my mom what happened for mom to post what she posted. My mom is a sub tweet/ sub post kind of person but won’t @ who she’s talking about. Then my brother sent a screenshot of what she texted to my little brother. I also added that below too.

I was so angry at this. Our entire outing had nothing to do with her, we were celebrating our dad, and we didn’t even talk about her once! I know she doesn’t like my brother being close to us because my mom hates the fact that my god sister boyfriend and I are very 420 friendly. My brother isn’t 21, we don’t let him indulge at all and he’s never asked to. The most he’s asked for was for us to take him to the strip club. She also hates that my boyfriend and I got a place together, but don’t have any kids. My mom wanted me to live with her until I got married. I could’ve told you at 14 that was never going to happen.

We’ve decided that it’s time for a family intervention and are currently looking for a mediator. As we know next week is Mother’s Day and I’m having a very hard time buying a gift for her. Not only has she caused a lot of pain in my life with a lot of her toxic behavior and poor choices, as the oldest I feel like I shared the load of being a mother more than I should have. And I’m not talking about the occasional baby sitting and helping around the house. I’ve also been a financial resource for my family as I currently make more than my mom.

My little brother decided to spend Mother’s Day weekend with me and said that he wants to cook me dinner and wash my car. My boyfriend thinks it’s so sweet and has been conspiring with him on all the different video games they’re about to play. I’m just worried my mom is going to take all of this the wrong way again.

What should I do? Would I be the ass hole if I don’t get her anything for Mother’s Day?
