The US should have stayed in Nam

I don't understand how people think sometimes. I don't understand how people can say we should just leave and abandon millions of people to a horrendous fate.

Do you understand what the people of South Vietnam had to endure because we abandoned them? The Viet Cong and the North Vietnamese weren't hero's, they weren't the good guy. Objectively speaking they were on similar levels of the Taliban in terms of how they treated people when they took over. In some ways worse. Every time they captured an area mass graves would be dug. They would find the "reactionaries" and kill them, their children, their pets, they would even go as far as to scoop fish out of their bowls(not an exaggeration), after the war they put hundreds of thousands of people into camps. I can keep going on. Seriously one of our strategies in the war was to just give locals guns and build walls around their villages so them could defend themselves against these fuckers.

This wasn't hindsight. What they did at Hue was well documented years before we pulled out. They were known to do shit like throw grenades into crowds to intimidate people.

Because communists gotta communist they managed to take one of the highest producing rice growing regions in the world into a place with near famine levels of food shortages. There's a reason almost a million people fled the country on tiny boats after the war was over

We didn't even have to fight on the ground after a certain point. The 1972 easter offensive showed we could just support the South with our Airforce and Navy while they did the ground fighting and held back the North.

Yes the US did a lot of wrong in Vietnam. Yes the entrance was built on a lie. That doesn't mean we should just abandon people to a horrible fate. If we are actively holding the door shut from wolves coming into our friends house we shouldn't just let go because we're tired.

If a war to stop evil has to go one forever then so be it.

A virus ends the world and kills most of humanity. Survivors do exist and have made communities were people are surving and sometimes thrive. Your child is not only immune to this virus but is the key to making a cure. Unfortunately making the cure will kill them, do you allow this to happen?

Kinda a shame the writing is so weak

Everything else about the game is great. The acting is phenomenal, the atmosphere is amazing, gameplay is enjoyable and well designed. It's just the writing can't keep up with everything and brings everything else down.

Instead of all the good being the topic of discussion and these people's hard and amazing work being put to the forefront what most people talk about is the shitty writing.

It's kinda stupid how often the game points out how unbelievable things are

Joel and Tommy point out that zombie horde came out of nowhere

Abby herself is shocked that she coincidentally ran into Joel

Abby points out how stupid it is that Mel is going on the front lines pregnant. Twice.

Mel points out that she barely got cleared to go on the front lines.

Lev points out how weird it is how much Abby wants to help them even though they just meet

Mel points out how unbelievable it is Abby has a sudden change of heart

So how did Mel get to aquarium in one peice?

Seattle isn't safe in the slightest. Abby the WLFs top soldier barely survived the trip. How did a heavily pregnant woman with her dog get there without issue while Abby barely got through.

Why is no one mentioning the fact that Ellie stopping talking to Joel because he saved her and Jackson just allowing Ellie to be an unsupervised teenager is unrealistic as fuck

You're telling me this girl would stop talking to the guy who was the only one who didn't "die or leave" her because he lied about people who were going to kill her? Like both my parents were constantly lying to my face all through my life. I have no idea what hell happened in their relationship when I was a baby because both my parents just make shit. I didn't stop talking to my mom because she lies constantly and breaks my trust in other ways, I stopped talking to her(in person)because she doesn't treat me with respect and is constantly trying to find something to fight over. Still talk to my Dad because he treats me with respect. Joel beyond this one lies more than treats Ellie with respect and goes above and beyond for her.

Even if she thought she was going to save the world the fact that she was going to die would have made her at least stop and think and even understand and possibly forgive Joel.

Why does Jackson just allow Ellie to be an unsupervised teenager? It's not like they treat teens like adults. Ellie and Dina weren't even allowed to go on patrols without adults until they were of age.

Why hasn't the HD version of the room been released?

We know Tommy filmed the movie with 2 cameras at the same time and one of them was HD. Why has he not released this version after all this time?

Postal 2's tag "it's only violent as you are" is bullshit

Yes I know it's 20 years old, I don't care, I want to talk about it.

I like this game, it's an all time classic. I'm not talking shit about the game itself more so how this line tries to frame the game.

The line comes from the culture wars in the 2000's where it was mostly conservatives going after what they saw as problematic content. Violent video games being the most notable example. Creating a game where the game only gets as violent and perverse as the person playing it is a great idea in response. What's the issue then?

Well so much of the game all but requires you to be violent. There's certain sections where it does what the tag line says like when you have to stand in line and it goats you into going postal. Almost every time after that the game is designed for you to have shot your way out of situations. Enemies literally stand in the paths you have to go through. There's no way to sneak past them. The only way to do a pacifist run is to run straight into gunfire while parkouring over stuff the game wasn't designed for you to parkour over and smoking a fuck ton of meth. That's not the game only being as violent as you are, that's you actively having to fight the game design to not be violent.

This game does ok commentary for the most part but they didn't make a game that's "only violent as you are". They made a violent video game as fuck you to the anti video game people.

Would offensives like Tet or the Spring offensive even been possible if the US did operation pocket money early in the war?

From my understanding almost all of North Vietnams supplies from the USSR came from that harbor. Would they even have a chance of resupplying their forces with new artillery, tanks etc. if that harbor was mined?
