Taking my chance while u/SoundCloud is listening.

The groups feature was removed in August 2016 for good reasons. 1 it became a mess of people spamming their tracks in each group as crappy self promo, since there was 1 song limit per group w/o Premium and people began posting their tracks in every group they could find lol... and 2 it wasn't even as effective as reposting and DMing people - but I think a decade later, SoundCloud can bring it back and do better.

Focus less on the self-promo aspect overall, focus more on the community aspect. Allow group moderators to not allow track posts from members, or only allow them for certain artists (such as who the group is about), allow threads/forums in the "discussion" tab, allow popular artists (if they so choose) to have a direct link to their group directly on their page.

For groups dedicated to self promo, or for groups who choose to allow it, remove the 1 track limit and instead make it time based. 1 track a day you can promo. That way people can't do the old trick of uploading to group, waiting for it to get buried by someone else, then unsharing and reuploading it to the group. 1 track a day means there will be less cheesing the system and gives everyone at least a fighting chance.

This will also bring more traffic to SoundCloud as fans of artists no longer have to go outside of SoundCloud to discuss their favorite artist, they can, if they want, just discuss it on SoundCloud directly in the groups. Both artists, listeners, and SoundCloud themselves benefit from it.

Please give the feature another chance u/SoundCloud , what SoundCloud needs right now is more community and people brought together, and it feels like we're going in the opposite direction from this.

I know there's a like 0.02% chance this post does anything or gets any cogwheels turning at SoundCloud HQ but worth a shot :')

ive seen posts abt this for the past like month and ive been dreading the day the update hits my account, and wow yeah it's even worse than I thought lol. Why is Soundcloud trying so hard to be boujee?
