Please help..1st round interview

I have a first-round interview next week with a district I’ve been really interested in, and I’m starting to get nervous.

The interview is only 5 minutes long over Zoom, which honestly makes me more anxious because it feels like every answer has to count.

I’ve been teaching for 10 years (9 years in Texas and 1 year in California), so it’s been a very long time since I’ve gone through a traditional interview process.

The California position was a private school and came through a connection, so while I did interview, it didn’t feel like the typical competitive interview experience.

For those of you who have interviewed recently, especially in California, what are some things you wish you had prepared for beforehand?

What kinds of questions are districts asking in these short screening interviews?

And if you’ve ever had a 5-minute first-round interview, what made the biggest difference in helping you move on to the next round?

Any advice is appreciated. I think I’m overthinking it because it’s been so long since I’ve had to really sell myself as a teacher.

Job hunt advice

Today is the first day I’m officially “unemployed” as a teacher in California, LA. Never been in this position so now I’m in the market to look for a new teaching position in OC. I want to work in Public schools but idk if I should also give charter schools a shot and maybe give private another shot. 😭 I did have my credentials transferred from Texas, I just need to get the CTEL but will be doing it by taking a couple courses. Any advice?

Can you get hired as a teacher without the English Learner (EL) Authorization?

I've been applying to teaching positions and I don't have my EL Authorization yet — I'm scheduled to take the test in August.

I called one school and they said they wouldn't consider me without it, but when I asked about being enrolled in the classes they said that would be okay. I also called a college and they confirmed that most schools won't hire without it, but being enrolled is usually enough to get your foot in the door. They also suggested private schools as a better option for now.

Has anyone been in this situation? Were you able to get hired while still working toward your EL Authorization? Did enrolling in the courses help? Any advice on what types of schools to target would be really appreciated.

My little one is deadly afraid of flies 🪰

I put a pillow on top of him so he can feel safe out else he’ll go underneath the bed 😭😭😭. I’m about to go crazy on these flies for making him feel scared.

Interview in California

Hi there, I have an interview next week for a public Multiple Subject Elementary Teaching position in California (SoCal) and since I’m coming from Texas, I wanted to ask what kinds of questions I should be preparing for. I know this may sound a little silly, but I taught at the same school for the past 10 years, so it’s been a long time since I’ve gone through the interview process. Since I recently decided to move, I just want to make sure I prepare myself as much as possible. Thank you so much for any advice or guidance you can share!

Recommendations appreciated

My little one has little red spots he keeps scratching and the second one on his chest area it’s dry and flakey. A week ago he got groomed and I have him medicine for flea and ticks because I had seen some on him. Im wondering if this be from that? Or a possible allergy? Can I get recommendations on how to soothe his symptoms, please.

I am a 12th houser with Sun ☀️, Mercury, Venus, Chiron & Juno in Gemini ♊️. I am also a Scorpio ♏️ moon 🌕 and a Cancer ♋️ rising. I am also a twin (I’m the girl while my twin is a boy) and our lives have been so different…. We are only minutes from birth time. Which I’m older supposedly by C-section.

This is my observation: We moved places several times growing up finally settling in a different country from our birth place.

Growing up I was SA (later found out my brother was too but but not as much as me) I was SA by different ppl in different times of my childhood, so my childhood was filled with different trauma but I’ve l learned to not let it get to me and not let it define me. I don’t carry that burden with me. But I wasn’t very social and very closed off because of it. On the other hand my twin has always been the life of the party everyone loves him and praises him. He’s always had a pretty decent life until a couple of years later he pretty much rock bottoms, loses house, divorce, custody battle and all that pluses looses faith. While all that happens im leaving with my husband (now ex husband) and my life is not bad it’s just steady. But in the back of my mind I was struggling with knowing if I was in the right path because I’ve always felt like I’m meant for more.

Fast forward to today, my brother married again, bought a house and has a great career got back to his faith and is getting ready for his new phase in life. However our relationship sucks….Now me, a couple of years ago I got divorced, lost my house, my relationship with family got worse and I left my faith from shame and now I’ved moved states by myself and pretty much am starting over. I can’t help it think we mirror each other and feel as if the good parts are coming around for me.

With Uranus hitting my 12th house, the house I’ve learned to love I feel this will be the turning point I’ve been waiting for. I love astrology but this is the part I don’t get when it comes to twins. I can easily have the why me mentality but that serves no purpose to anyone specially me.

I hear a lot of fear upon people with Uranus being sorta transformative or bad for cancer risings, but honestly I don’t feel it. I do feel a change coming and I can feel it in my bones but this change is not bad either.

If you stuck around this long I appreciate you, I just needed to let it out somewhere and I just felt this was the right place. Stay positive out there ☺️
