Arrow weight, foc, broadheads…

Just stirring the pot I suppose. Whatever everyone’s thoughts on heavy vs light, foc, mechanical vs fixed, fletching, etc.?

Seems like there is a stark disagreement at least on arrow weight.

For what it’s worth, my arrow is 582gr. Bow is 60#.

Always interested to see how people reach certain conclusions etc.

How long between buys?

Literally just picked up my first AD purchase for Starbucks Sub. My ultimate goal is snag a GMT Zombie and close the books until I turn 50 and make a play for a A. Lange.

How long should I wait before trying to prospect into my SA? Realistically my wife would castrate me if I turned around and bought another watch this year before taking her on vacation. Next year seems like a reasonable timeline to start “conversations”

Any tips on going for buy #2 and when you should start trying to make the short list for an allocation?

SOTC - stay for the read

Been new to the excitement of collecting over the last few years I guess.

Garmin is my field, active and off grid safety net. Gets most action in during hikes and hunting season, backpacking and fishing.

Hamilton is from my great grandfather, gifted to him from his company as a Night Watchmen in 1924. One of the only “family heirlooms” to exist in my life.

1989 Rolex Date. This was my first luxury piece/ accessory I’ve ever owned. It was given to me by my wife’s uncle. Freshly serviced from the local AD and it’s more versatile than you’d think.

Sinn 857S is competing for my favorite daily. Straps of all flavors go well and it’s a tank. It feels like a tool watch and it certainly commands it.

Formex Reef GMT. This was my venture into the microbrand world. Beautiful piece and until I get a Master II this is a great travel buddy. Customize it with different bezels easily and the strap/ clasp system is the most comfortable in my collection.

Lastly but most recent (yesterday) is the Starbucks. This is a personal achievement for me. I’ve been nearly homeless in my younger years. Put myself through college. Slept in my car, stole groceries and wrote more bad checks than I’m proud of. But I’m in a place personally that my younger self would’ve killed for. My professional career is more than solid, my family is beautiful and healthy. We just finished a major remodel on our home and life is now completely centered around the only currency I have come to recognize - time. This watch was a reminder that time is all there is and it’s escaping all of us at and astronomically high rate.

Cheers and enjoy your life. Reflect and appreciate. 🫡

She’s back from service

Took her to AD about a month and a half ago. Told them not to polish and it came back perfectly as expected!

New Strap Day

857 S. I love this watch on leather as much as textile. Not a huge color guy but orange is my favorite color.

When to hunt it?

Been getting more and more into trad last few years. Hunted my satori a few times with no opportunity to harvest.

Been shooting a few older bows last 6-8 months that I’m really enjoying. River Raisin longbow 45# (probably from early 2000s) and a 1965 Bear Kodiak Grayling 51#.

I enjoy them both and shoot around the yard with good groups. My point on is about 9/10 yards. Heavy arrows/ high foc. just like I run with my compound. Bare shaft tune, fletch and broadhead tune all my stuff.

Long winded way of asking, when do you know you’re ready to get in the bush with a stick bow? How many arrows, years of practice etc.? I have an Alaska hunt coming up in September. Not only is it my first hunting trip to AK but also my first moose tag I’ve ever had.

Initial plan was strictly rifle. The more and more I think about it, the more drawn I am to bring my Bear Kodiak. Not for the chance on any game. But the nostalgia of being in the Alaska bush for 10+ days with a classic recurve.

Had the pleasure to join a friend of mine at the AD with his longtime SA. He brought me in knowing my experience with another local AD was less than promising.

We were there for about an hour. Tried on my hit list. SA took my info into Salesforce, assigned my top two picks. And we had an enjoyable time sharing about our kids, events, life etc. SA gave me her card, said if I don’t receive an automated text to reach her directly.

The experience going in with a tenured customer in your corner vs going in blind and deaf was night/ day difference. I feel really good about this now vs getting jerked around by the other AD/ SA.

FWIW - I did gather that Rolex seems to have recently adopted Salesforce. The SA informed us that it was a work in progress. Some of the allocations that come in, aren’t being tagged to individuals or particular SAs automatically. The SA said she can’t see her clients specifically, her filters allow her to see everyone associated with that AD. If you have been waiting for a while, the new crm is likely going to make this harder on your SA until they streamline inventories with the SA accounts (customers). She showed us how it works and seems super straight forward but it’s not yet married up to the data from their previous system. So, I would suggest that you pop in and maybe ask your SA to confirm that you’re on the respective lists for that particular SA - not floating in no mans land.

For example - she took all my details and entered them into SF. Selected which watch I wanted 1st and which I wanted as 2nd choice. Then she said I should get a text pushed through Salesforce. I haven’t gotten anything yet so I’ll ping her directly to let her know.
