Puppy meet ups?

Are there others who have a puppy and would like to meet up at a non-dog park for some socialization time?

We have a wonderful 10 week old pup we got from the shelter a couple of weeks ago. He was neutered then, and he is cleared to start playing as much as his heart desires and socializing with other pups! He’s caught up on vaccines now for his age, but can’t go to dog parks yet of course.

He’s been around a lot of children, ages 1.5-18, loooooves people, other dogs, etc.
We just want to get him out (safely) as much as possible!

I’m an RN and my fiancé works from home. We tend to be more available in the evenings unless I’m off that day.

Fiancé’s guess: Part horse

Pictures are from over the past week and a few days. He was estimated to be 8 weeks by the shelter after being found in a parking lot with a sister who is much fluffier without as much white, to now, estimated independently at 9 weeks by the veterinarian we took him to.

He was a ribby 14.7 lbs when found, and was 17.1 a few days ago at the vet. Poor dude had parasites up the wazoo 😞

He does bark, primarily when he wanted the hooman food we were eating or to go outside, but makes a lot of little vocal sounds also.

When we’re outside, he likes to take pause breaks where he surveys the land. He either sits and calmly watches everything from birds to squirrels, or lays down with the grass being his preferred bed aside from our mattress.

He’s super friendly with strangers, and chill with those he knows. He’s isn’t spooked by much except the pile of firewood, and he got over that within a few minutes.

Favorite things to do:
-Dig and bury his head in the earth
-Go outside just to watch what’s going on calmly
-Meet new people
-Sit in the spot he has claimed his own next to the front door
-His bully stick
-Play-pounce occasionally onto his treats when we’re playing games with them

Whiteboard has guesses from half the kids so far. Wondering what yours are? We just sent in a swab to Embark, and will update when we get it back!

Which puppy training courses do you like?

Puppy is 9 weeks now, neutered by the shelter we got him from last Tuesday, and we’ve mostly tried positive reinforcement with treats so far. He sat with the same command we used at home for the vet when we took him in today for a neutering complication!

He has a lot of anxiety when we leave the room though. We’ve been with him for the last 5 days almost nonstop, so that makes sense (on top of the other parts of puppyhood!)

I want to get the rest of the house clean so I can let him explore with supervision!

He’s not ready for doggy daycare because he needs all of his vaccines and to be free of parasites first, but we are a big family (6 kids) and it would be nice to have something we can all look at together so we’re on the same page and he gets consistency.

I saw “absolute dog” in this subs archives, and have been seeing empowered puppy program on social media. Baxter and Bella seems to have had a falling out on this sub due to dominance based techniques, and I don’t even know what that is concretely.

Which do you use, and why?
How often do you use it, and does everyone in your household do it also?

I’m hoping to train our guy to be a therapy dog. He seems to have the right temperament for it so far!

This little big guy is likely to grow into a large dog. His sister who he was found with is VERY fluffy, and he’s got some fluff but it’s far more minimal. He has a bit of white on his chest, four white toe socks, and the softest demeanor.

The shelter named him Nori, and most of my family likes that name (we have 6 kids), but I’m looking for something that maybe just feels more right.

Thank you!

Hi all,

I’m looking for bowls that will stack and get cleaned efficiently in a standard US dishwasher. Utility>fashion at this point.

We have mismatched bowls, cups, plates, (you name it!) from various stages in our lives, and a resident raccoon who is still learning how to load a dishwasher well enough to shut the internal optimism up so she can doesn’t need to end up washing half of them by hand anyway (the raccoon is me, I’m the raccoon).

I read somewhere that the 365+ is the best for this purpose, but am not sure if that’s true. If it is, do folks go with flared or not flared like the pictures?

Thank you in advance for helping with the decision fatigue!

Edit:

We’re going with the oftast! Thank you guys so much! I’ll try to update how they held up in a few months 😊

Uppies, the cutesy patootsie way of asking “up”. Origin? Is it honestly just “uppies” or could it be “up please” but with toddler pronunciation? UPpeez v. Up Pweez.
