Is there a way to check availability if I don't mind where to go? Meaning. If I in London, and I don't mind going to Paris, Lille, Bruxelles or Amsterdam, is there a way to check if there is availability on any of the routes (without checking them individually)?

I guess all details of the question are in the title.

Staying in big capitals or in small cities and visiting big capitals while passing by?

We are on route.

Getting accommodation on big capitals last minute is a nightmare. Expensive, when finding a hole in the wall to sleep.

Due to cancellation/delays we have been stranded a couple of times on smaller places, where finding accomodation was somehow easier/more affordable.

This makes me think: is the winning strategy here, in summer to stay away from the big tourist places and only visit them during the day from outside on a day trip and out in the evening? Trading the cost of the accommodation for the commute time, I guess.

I know there is not a right/wrong answer here. Just looking for the advice of people with more experience than me.

First time interrail. How to manage uncertainty for accomodation?

Ok, I'm on route, and following the advice of everybody I am flexible in spirit and try to enjoy travelling light and go with the wind.

Yesterday was our first hit. The train we were looking for was sold out (reservations) so we have to adapt and change the route. That might mean we might have to pass the night somewhere else tonight. Not sure where, depends on transfers.

How is everybody managing this? Assuming there are always available hostels near train stations? Ready to sleep in the station if that comes? Searching on route two hours before dusk?

Really curious to understand how people are managing the stress of not knowing what tonight might bring.

A friend just told me that travelling Germany and Netherlands by train is a nightmare right now...

... because they are cancelling trains right and left due to damage caused by the heat wave?

She told me Eurostar cancelled on her?

I start my eurorail in a couple of days.

Can anybody confirm? Should I replan/rethink my trip?

How do you attach your helmet to your backpack?

So, I am using more and more bixi, because they are convenient, because I am not worried somebody will steal my lights, wheel, whatever is not nailed to the frame.

So I go around the city catching bikes here and there carrying my helmet like an idiot.

Meanwhile I see people with their helmets neatly attached to their backpacks like it is part of the backpack. Love it.

How the hell do you do that?

Mine is always falling to one side, or the other, or hanging like a malformation of my backpack...

What is your secret? Carabiniers?

Photo for attention.

Visiting London in 3 weeks for 1 week

Lime? Santander? Same thing?

Can I get a daily pass or similar as a tourist?

Do I need a helmet?

Will I die in the traffic?

Age limit (I am traveling with pre-ados)?

Rental bikes or trotinette?

Is there a service of rental urban bikes? Velib is the service to go? Electrical trotinettes?

Can I use them as a tourist? Or do I require a physical card? Physical address?

Is it advisable? Everybody talks about metro, nobody talks about biking... Anything bad with the bikes?

Merci pour la réponse!

Backpack - a little bit tangential question - which size?

We will be 2 months backpacking during an eurorail in Europe.

Which backpack size?

30l? 40l?

We need something big to carry all. But small enough so it is not cumbersome to walk around sightseeing.

What is your experience?

SpaceX and all that surrounds USA

So I would like to share...

I am (like many others) an index investor, proud follower of the now defunct Canadian Couch Potato.

My DCPP, TFSA, RRSP, RESP for my kids, are all following more or less the same approach. I look at when I will need the funds, and I invest more or less equally in Canadian, US (SP500) and international vanguard indexes and a percentage in bonds. Each year I reduce the exposure to market and increase bond weight.

Lately I feel extremely uneasy with the USA, IMHO this will explode one way or the other (personal feeling, not investing advice). I think, with their debt levels and the calls to reduce interest rates the dollar might go down with all the expected consequences.

SpaceX IPO is, for me, another nail in the coffin.

I am thinking about intentionally reduce my US exposure to minimum (maybe 5%) of total portfolio?

My question to the hive mind: am I gaslighting myself and been a victim of the newspapers drama? Entering in paranoia?

Context: 10 years to retirement.

Cost of Eurostar Paris to London

super easy question - I am still in the planning stage.
We wanted to stay 3 days in Paris and head later to London - I can see the details, but I am unsure about the cost. The cost I see in the web is per person? or the 4 of us: 2 adults, one youth, one child?
If per person, it looks super high.

Prépayé esim pour deux mois?

Bonjour,

On va faire un interrail cet été.

On atterrirons à Paris.

Toute aide sera bienvenue.

Merci!

ma mère craint que je ne choisisse quelqu'un comme elle - my mother was afraid that I would choose someone like her

Craint que ... ne ... (without pas)

Somebody explained me this long time ago. Such "ne" is not negation.

Why?

Can somebody refresh my memory?

So, my kids were playing with the radio knobs and they broke the knobs. Wheni say the knobs I don't mean the plastic knobs, I mean the metal piece behind. They don't turn, and I cannot push them to switch on/off or change the source.

Solution? Do I have to change the full screen/console?

This is a 2008 Toyota Highlander Hybrid.

Found the studded Winter tires of my kids bike in the garage when looking for my summer tires to change them.

She outgrown the bike so we don't further need them.

Do you have any recommendations on where to sell them?

I tried Facebook marketplace but I don't see any specific bike second hand selling groups in Montreal.

---

Merciiii
