Was Voldy becoming a snake mutant an unexpected side effect of using the dark arts or was he aware?

Did he know that if he created the horcruxes and experimented with the dark arts, he would become a weird snake mutant, or did it come as a surprise? He never seems to be bothered or even pay attention to his appearance, even though he's the only wizard that looks like a weirdo.

What if he did??

What was crippled Aegon thinking when flying to Harrenhall on a crippled dragon to fight his brother, who not only has the largest dragon in the world, but is a great fighter and, unlike him, isn’t crippled? For all he knew, Aemond would be salivating at the idea of finishing him off as soon as he sees him arrive with Sunfyre, how was he planning on fighting him??

How hard can it be to run a company like Waystar Royco?

I know it’s a huge corporation, but at that level, these people have so much money and power they can hire the best advisors and executives in the world to essentially run things for them while they’re on vacation 24/7. How hard can the position of CEO be for a legacy media empire? Roman is right, just let Gerri or someone like her run things while you’re on the cover of magazines and show up to big meetings. Logan should’ve just rolled a dice and given it to any of his kids to ensure the business stays in the family, and just hire the best executives. It’ll be fine.

Why does this show have to be such a Karen fantasy?

Why? What does Ryan Condal get out of this? GRRM is a huge feminist and leftist, but asoiaf and GoT still feel like they’re trying to explore a wide range of character traits: we have shitty female characters like Cersei and Melissandre, and good male characters like Jon and Davos, to name a few. HOTD is just overtly misandrist. Every male character is evil, stupid, impulsive, reckless or pathetic. Every female character is super competent and right about everything, and whenever they’re wrong or do something morally questionable, it’s presented as derivative from a man’s actions. “Will you blame me only for what men have done”, as Alicent puts it this season. "You toil still in service to men. Your father, your husband, your son”, as she puts it in season 2. Give me a goddamn fucking break. Women are no different than men, equally capable of good and evil. This is Karen wishful thinking, am i right or what??

The kind of college students the siblings were

I just like to imagine how they were in college.

Kendall: he went to Harvard for his undergraduate degree, probably to study something business-related or journalism. He was probably a really good student, acing all his exams, always showing up to class, always being the first to answer the professor’s questions. He takes the initiative in every group project and college activity, including when writing for the Harvard Lampoon. He tries to act hip and be likable to people, but everyone finds him insufferable and they constantly team up to spoil most of his college enterprises, which makes him spiral into drug abuse with students like Stewy and ultimately fail most of his classes. Logan looks at him disappointed everytime he learns he has to pay extra tuition for him to attend another failed semester. This pushes him to pursuit an MBA, to cement that he’s actually a really smart and good student (and, of course, because he think he’ll be CEO of Waystar).

Shiv: I don’t think the show says what university she attended, but probably Ivy League or something prestigious. I doubt she majored in political science, since that requires some knowledge of statistical and scientific research, which I think Shiv would find beneath her. She can always hire an analyst for that stuff. I think she would major in journalism or something easy from the humanities and liberal arts. She would think she’s smarter than everyone else on campus and that she already knows everything she needs to be successful, and that all she needs are the right contacts. She would do the bare minimum to pass her classes, the rest of the time she would be networking… at which she mostly fails, since most other students find her insufferable. She only becomes a somewhat successful political consultant thanks to her dad. She graduates with her bachelors sooner than Kendall did, though, and would rub it all over his face.

Roman: the wiki says he went to Marshal School of Business in USC, but I don’t recall that from the show. In any case, he probably didn’t even pick a major and, much like Shiv, thought it was all just daycare for adults, didn’t care about academics at all and just went there to party and have a good time. Unlike Shiv, he wouldn’t even try to pass his classes, and would just pay other students to take the tests for him. Other students probably thought he was really fun to hang out with, but eventually he would get involved in some sexual scandal related to an older professor and everyone would see him for the weirdo he is. Didn’t graduate, but would still rub in Ken’s face that Shiv graduates before him.

Connor: much like Shiv, no, he didn’t study political science or anything related to politics. He probably just attended for fun, majored in something easy and interesting, put no effort into it, and probably didn’t manage to graduate. At least other students thought he was ok, a bit aloof, but nice enough to hang around with.

Tom: went to Cornell University, I like to think that as a pre-law student, to follow in his mom’s footsteps, but a major in journalism or finance are equally likely. He was a decent student, worked hard, stayed until late, got good grades. People liked him just fine. He raised his socioeconomic status by banging rich girls on campus, culminating in finding Shiv. Went for his MBA after it was obvious Shiv would make him raise among the Waystar executive ranks.

Why didn’t Tyrion study at the Citadel without becoming a maester?

I know that it’s very dishonorable for a major house to send a son to the citadel to become a maester, especially with Tywin as a father, but who says you have to become one? Oberyn went to the citadel and forged a few chain links, yet he’s no maester, so why didn’t Tyrion do the same? He’s much more scholarly inclined than Oberyn, and even considered joining the faith of the seven, so he also has interest in joining an academic institution, why not forge a few chain links out of pure intellectual curiosity?

Did the siblings acquire Pierce?

I know that this was basically a dropped plot, but given the nature of their deal, is it likely that they acquired it after the show’s finale? Given that the siblings aren’t in speaking terms and this was a deal the three of them made, it doesn’t seem likely, but i’m no expert in M&A. Doesn’t sound legal that they could just drop the deal after Pierce had to reject Logan’s offer either.

Honestly, I’m surprised that in S4E5 Kendall didn’t use the fact they were in talks to buy Pierce to convince Shiv of keeping ATN. That way they would’ve done what Logan wanted in season 2: to do all the news in the world.

They should’ve made John Silver the main antagonist of the last season

Hello. I finished this show a couple of months ago, even though it’s been out since 2014. I liked it a lot, season 1-3 are great, but I thought the last season was rushed. The creators said that it was going to tie with Treasure Island and make us re-think some of the characters… which ended up meaning they diverged completely from the source material. They didn’t even get the treasure right! It’s supposed to be pieces of eight, not pearls! Billy Bones, instead of being close enough to Flint for him to entrust the treasure map, is rewritten to be his mortal enemy to the very end, and apparently ends up marooning in skull island, begging the question how did he even end up with the map in the beginning of TI.

I could go on with the many inconsistencies the ending of the show has with the book, but the biggest one has to be how they changed Long John Silver. Instead of a greedy pirate, now he’s a man in love with a native that forgoes his share of the Urca de Lima treasure in order to protect her. Their romance isn’t even well written! Season 3 ends with them seeming to respect each other, but not really having much chemistry or romantic insterest. Yet when season 4 starts we get a flashback of them in bed that comes out of nowhere. I was genuinely surprised they were in a relationship. Then he thinks she dies an decides to be a good guy and go against Flint and his revolution. How does this even tie with the Silver from TI? Nothing in the source material suggests he’s a romantic love bird that wants peace. I know that the show has a throw away line about him changing with time, but that’s just lampshading, just like Rackham’s final speech (“a story is true, a story is untrue”) is also lampshading.

I think the show would’ve worked better if they reverse the Silver and Flint roles. That is, Flint is the one that realizes his revolution would be a nightmare (maybe he learns earlier in the season that his lover is alive and that changes his heart), and Silver is the one with blood-thirst. After all, he lost his leg and, more importantly, he lost many crew members that were like brothers to him during Flint’s crusade. Of course he would be pissed if Flint decided to pull the plug. Silver’s relationship with his crew was ten times more developed than his romantic relationship with the native lady. They say they’ll take care of him when he loses his leg, and the episode where one drowns in Silver’s arms is a big emotional punch. Of course he would want the treasure to finance the revolution and make their sacrifices meaningful.

This role reversal would also make us re-think his character in TI. Him wanting the treasure isn’t just about greed. It’s about what the money means. It represent the sacrifice of his brothers in arms, and Flint’s betrayal isn’t just about stealing their cash and killing some of them, but more of an ideological betrayal. What do you think?

Why would Logan even consider Roman for the top job?

I get why he would want to have Kendall as his successor, since he has the Ivy league education and years of business experience running the company (and whatever he did in Shanghai). I also get why Shiv, since she actually built a career as a political consultant (yes, she used her family name to make it, but at least that’s something). But what did Roman ever accomplish before and during the show?

When the series starts he seems to just be under Frank’s wing, failing to learn the ropes. Only reason he gets the chance to be COO is because Logan needed him to sign the paper about Marcia. Then he works on some silly thanksgiving movie that he himself hates, and then the whole space shuttle explosion fiasco happens. He just keeps fucking up until the final episodes of season 2, when he advises Logan to not go private because he had a bad feeling about it, even though business-wise there was no basis for this and he was probably just panicking because he got kidnapped and didn’t want to deal with the people from Turkey anymore. Then he brought Matsson to the table, his biggest accomplishment in the entire show… and which ended up exploding in his face during the season 3 finale.

So again, why would Logan even entertain the idea of giving it to him? He basically has the same business pedigree as Connor, if not worse. Gerri mentions at one point that he has good instincts, which doesn’t mean anything (even Roman himself is sceptic when she says it), she probably was saying it to please him, since she was using him to advance her own career.
