Can we talk about how Ache Hour Credo went massively overlooked back in the day?

Ok so this is one of Wenger's bands (Breakwater, Daddy's Hands, M Blanket inside emo-punk scene), that offered a pretty unique emocore + post hardcore blend, that consisted of the most infectious, catchy and moody chords and basslines, intense and passionate chorus, and developing and dynamic structures without presenting a post rock backbone, plus Dave's throatty but clean singing resembles a lot his screamo work during the first Breakwater line-up (responsable for the demo and Five/Seven).

Really "blue"-sounding low fidelity emo. The band was pretty ephimeral, lasting only 1 year (maybe less). knowing how poor the emo scene was in victoria and canada as a whole in 1994 they would have probably kicked ass

- chad (BASS)

- dave (GUITAR)

- charles (DRUMS)

- emily (voice on Benju & the Pigman, invited artist of floragore)

Thing is I can't find much similarities to their sound, Lync (on top of it all) and Repetition era Unwound (1996 album) (not straight emo, though Lync is close), like AHC sounds really emo but nothing sounds really like them. They even feature sax (Bathtub Embryo).

They have that sound that you find kinda classic, close to you in some way but then you realize there is no band like this one, like with Orchid's sound that is so signature of them yet so "ive already listened to this".

they stay really original and appealing without exiting the emo scene, their sound still fits it so well

RECS:

Benju & The Pigman (THE banger)

Letterbomb Valentine [BANDCAMP BETTER SOUND] (cleanest and most emo-like vocals)

Give Fascism a Chance (the most emo sounding one)

Smegma (pretty anthemic if you ask me)

Strangled Planet (the crowd would sing too during this one)

In 1994, the demo that featured their 11 songs started circulating (not on label) in Victoria. It was never released due to alleged internal tensions within the band, that probably ended it. Though 2 songs were featured in latter compilations (Lettermbomb Valentine and Gives Fascism a Chance, 1995 and 1996)

It just saddens me a lot how unknown they have stayed, though there was a demo vynil repress in 2023. Still, i want everyone to know about them.

I hope you enjoy

this is how their material actually sounded like, the guy likely own/es the tape and Converted to digital files somehow. i might try speaking to him.
