Affordable and safe accommodation near Kandy Railway Station?

Hi everyone,

I’m planning to meet my girlfriend in Kandy and I’m looking for a safe, clean, and affordable place to stay near Kandy Railway Station.

Ideally, I’m looking for somewhere that:

  • Is close to the railway station or easy to reach
  • Is in a safe area
  • Is clean and well-maintained
  • Has reasonable prices
  • Has helpful/reliable staff
  • Budget less than 5k for a day

If you know any good hotels, guesthouses, or other accommodation around Kandy that you’ve personally had a good experience with, please recommend them.

Also, are there any areas or places around the railway station that I should avoid?

Thanks!

Looking for a Study Partner to Revise the Data with Baraa SQL Course

Hi everyone,

I recently completed the 30-hour SQL course by Data with Baraa. Now I’m planning to revise the full course, practice the concepts, and discuss difficult topics so I can understand everything more clearly.

I’m looking for a study partner who has also completed the course or is currently following it. We could:

  • Revise each topic together
  • Discuss confusing concepts
  • Practice SQL queries and exercises
  • Ask each other questions
  • Share notes and useful resources
  • Keep each other accountable

We could have regular discussions through Google Meet or another suitable platform.

You don’t need to be an expert. I’m mainly looking for someone who is serious, consistent, and interested in improving their SQL knowledge together.

Please message me with your current progress in the course and your available study times.

Do hourly jobs exist in Sri Lanka?

Hi everyone,

I recently completed my undergraduate degree, and I’m currently applying for full-time jobs.

I wanted to know whether hourly or flexible part-time jobs are common in Sri Lanka, especially around Colombo. For example, roles like cashier, retail, customer service, data entry, or café work.

I’m not asking for job offers—just trying to understand whether this type of work exists here and how people usually find them.

Thanks!

Any retreat programs in Sri Lanka, preferably near Colombo?

Hi everyone,

I feel like I really need a proper break from this hectic routine and just want to reset my mind for a bit.

I was thinking a retreat program might be a good option - something peaceful where I can relax, reflect, and get away from daily stress. Free or paid options are both okay.

It would be great if it’s close to Colombo, but I’m open to other places in Sri Lanka too if they’re worth it.

Do you know any good retreat programs, meditation centers, wellness places, nature stays, or similar options? Also, if you have any better ideas for this kind of mental reset, I’d really appreciate your suggestions.

Thanks in advance

Any free yoga classes in Colombo for beginners?

Hi guys,

I want to start practicing yoga, but I’d prefer to go to a physical class instead of only watching YouTube videos.

Does anyone know a free or low-cost yoga class in Colombo? I’m a complete beginner, so I’m looking for a place that teaches the basics properly — breathing, simple poses, flexibility, and routine.

It can be at a temple, community center, public park, wellness group, or anywhere around Colombo.

Please share if you know any place, time, or contact person.

Thanks a lot! 🙏

Afraid to start scalp microneedling because of infection risk—any advice?

Long story short, I’m 26M.

I’ve been using 5% minoxidil for about 10 months now. I recently started taking 1 mg finasteride every other day, and I’ve also completed 5 PRP sessions over the past 10 months.

The problem is, I still haven’t noticed much visible improvement on my scalp.

I recently bought a dermapen and 100% alcohol because I’m considering starting microneedling at home. But honestly, I’m nervous about it. It’s not the pain I’m worried about — it’s the risk of infection.

Has anyone here been in a similar situation? Any advice for someone who wants to start microneedling but is mainly worried about keeping it safe and avoiding infection?

Starting from scratch - what should always be in my kitchen?

26M living in a boarding place with limited kitchen space.

I'm trying to build a basic kitchen setup but I'm not sure what ingredients I should always keep stocked. What spices, sauces, pantry staples, oils, and cooking essentials do you consider mandatory?

If you were setting up a kitchen from scratch on a budget, what would be your top recommendations?

Looking forward to learning from your experience.

I am 26M; I wanted to learn cooking (just to explore), but I am not ready to spend money on any courses or anything.

I have always wanted to cook new items and try various food items, but I feel if I joined any courses, I could learn a lot, but I am not ready to spend on courses. so I wanted to know, "is there any place near Koswatta (Battaramula) where I can learn cooking freely like it can be a course or anything?"
